Thanks for this step by step guide to installing linux mint on dell and other secure boot pc systems! This is the best video I have seen on the confusing secure boot setup for linux. I love that you captured the bios screens as well. I am using this guide for students learning how to install linux mint on desktop and laptop computers.

So glad i found this video. I forgot to Enroll MOK so i couldn't boot into Linux at all so i reinstalled it & followed your MOK Instructions. Hooray👍

Be careful if you have two hard disks installed, ie boot drive and separate data drive, the WIPE DISK option will wipe BOTH of them, not just the system drive

still not working, on my MSI z790 board. i just don't understand why, it worked before, tried CSM, UEFI, different USB drives, it works with different distros tho, so i'm not sure why this is happening pleaseee help, i can't bare MS Windows

So I had a weird situation. I tried this process on an Optiplex 7010. Im using UEFI so i can boot from a PCIe NVME drive. I get to the point where i install Mint on the disk, remove the USB, restart...but then the PC doesnt see any bootable drives. I check the BIOS and "ubuntu" is listed as my UEFI option, but the PC doesn't seem to know how to use the drive. Whats more weird is that i dont get the MOK enrollment prompt right away, i only get it if i plug in the USB stick again! But even after i enroll it, the PC still doesbt boot into the drive. Any one else experience this or have any ideas?

That system and system BIOS is too old to recognise a PCI NVMe SSD which is why it isn't listed as a Bootable Device and as its not listed as a Bootable Device there will be no prompt for a MOK to allow it to boot the first time. Some users on the Dell forums reported similar experiences with Windows when trying a NVMe PCIe drive on that model.

Sounds like you booted from the USB again? Did you remove the Bootable USB when prompted?

My dell latitude e5430didnt have a wipe all data option under 'maintenance' - does this mean to change the OS on this Dell isnt possible plz?

That is an older Dell Model released in 2012 Q2 (Intel Gen 3 Processor). The Dell Data Wipe was first introduced in business models in 2015 Q4 (Intel Gen 6 Processor). Therefore your UEFI BIOS won't have Dell Data Wipe. You can format the drives during the install from the Linux Mint setup. This removes all the partitions and assigns everything on the drive to free space... It isn't as through as a Data wipe but used to be the standard procedure on older models... Alternatively you can use Parted Magic to perform a Data Wipe. This is essentially a modified Linux Live Bootable USB that has utilities for Data Wipe. It does however require a small fee to access the ISO as the developer needed to spend quite a good bit of time and money testing it with different storage controllers and drives. I made a video demonstrating its use here on a Dell Desktop around the same age as your laptop but haven't tested it on any more recent versions as Dell Data Wipe became a standard on newer hardware: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaKroWhmZcxjqtk&ab_channel=PhilipYip
