@@MeltonInternationalTackle purchased in store, called back next day due to issue with drag on new Penn Fathom 60NLD2, told to bring it in, drove back to store 2 days after purchase and was told that reel was acting normal. Reel was set to 20lb strike and had very restricted free spool. Could have returned it, but since he was saying it was normal, I would have eaten the cost of the 100lb hollow core braid installation and 100’ marking. Now I had to pay to send it to Penn Warranty myself.

Are these reels painted or anodized ? Those yellow stripes are hideous, looks like the chevrons on a factory floor. And writing on evrey surface, reel tacky :) Great reel though. I will be getting the 8500HS version for fishing of the beach here in Ghana. If i remember correctly you gave some prizes for a competition we had in Ada, Ghana, West Africa many many years ago. Think one of the organizers /competitors knew you. i may be mistaken but i have a vague recollection of that.

Paul, Yes we fished Ghana back in 2002 for the blue marlin bite that was going on. We did sponsor the tournament that was going on over there back in the day. As for the reels, they are anodized for corrosion protection. The stripes are machined to lighten the spool and then anodized. Sorry you dont like the badging but they are nice reels. All the best.

@Melton International Tackle ah yes I think was 'the Hooker' that was running back in those days. As far as the reel is concerned am warming to its looks but more interested in its durability (as you know, have to maintain our own stuff out here). On stripersonline forum there is some talk that the new oscillating gear is not shimmed correctly and runs directly on body, has caused gear grinding issues
