My personal headcannon with the Abra, Cubone, and Farfetched lines, is that they’re replacing their default item with an upgraded version. So a Marowack with a thick club item is in universe just a Marowack with a sturdier club. A Farfetched with the leek item is just a Farfetched with a sharper leek. To me that always made the most sense.

The *Pokemon has weapon but held item is the same weapon* problem could be resolved if we asume the Pokemon doesn't inherently have that item, we see it in the sprites and such bc that's a weapon that species is known to use as their main combat style, but in theory they don't need actually need it to fight So in lore, when you are giving a bent Spoon to Alakazam, a thick bone to cubone/marowak, a leek to farfetch'd, you are giving that weaponless pokemon their signature weapin, which is also why that weapon gives them a boost or a power up, bc they really are *_made_* to use those weapons

Interesting video idea, thanks for sharing! It’s one of those things in Pokémon that you don’t necessarily think about all the time, but it sure is odd that some Pokémon use weapons and others don’t. Here are some I think you missed: Escavalier uses shelmet’s exoskeleton as a weapon (the spikes). Not sure if you would count Zacian/Zamazenta, since they do need the held items, but their form changes do have them using a weapon that is not a part of their body in their sprites. Braixen and Delphox both have stick wands that they use to cast their fire/psychic moves. Flabebe and Floette both have flowers which can be used as weapons. Oranguru carries leaves, and Passimian carries around a fruit/ball. Komala has its log (annoyingly the only part that changes when you find a shiny Komala, even though the log is definitely not a part of its body). Dhelmise uses the anchor (since it’s the seaweed wrapped around it that is the Pokémon). Technically the Applin lines apple is not a part of their bodies and they all have various apple based moves that they use. Sinistea and polteageist are the tea inside, not the cup or teapot. Just like Poltchageist and Sinistcha are the macha inside. And while both ghost lines mostly use those as defense, they also have moves related to the objects that they inhabit.
@x_bell11425 ай бұрын
Thanks, those are all great suggestions that I will look into for part 2!
@leondyer38555 ай бұрын
I think the easiest answer to the question of Pokemon with weapons that are not necessarily physically attached to their body would be the fact that they channel Infinity energy for a good portion of their attacks. It's likely that Pokemon with weapons use those weapons in the same way certain types of fantasy wizards use their wands as a means to focus said Infinity energy for their attacks, and thus the weapon carries the same energy signature as the Pokemon in question thus leading to the pokeball being able to capture a Pokemon along with its weapon due to reading both of them as only one energy signature.

I think the only “in universe logic” you could use to justify some pokemon being allowed to keep weapons, is that essentially anything a single pokeball can pull in counts as a pokemon, that’s why execute and dugtruo and magnaton all count as a single pokemon, and that same logic would apply to the weapon wielding pokemon too, if the pokeball grabs it up its fair game. To be fair though, there are a ton of examples of held items also getting sucked into a pokeball so that logic doesn’t totally hold up. But held items can also be used by any pokemon and the pokemon with weapons are usually the only ones who can use their item, so you could create a classification for them where anything that gets sucked up by a pokeball but can’t be used by other pokemon is a weapon that counts as part of its user.

pokemon don't know what to do with certain man-made items like potions, so you could probably give one a gun and it wouldn't know how to use it. I think that's the in-universe explanation for why you can't just give pokemon whatever items you want or more than one item.

@x_bell11425 ай бұрын
True
@metaltornado34575 ай бұрын
Close Combat doesn't necessarily have to be punches and kicks, it's just the Pokémon recklessly physically attacking the opponent. Arcanine can learn Close Combat and probably uses its teeth/claws since its arms don't articulate in such a way to punch someone effectively. Likewise, Mach Punch is just a strike that's too fast for the opponent to see, so maybe the Conkeldurr line thrust their weapons into the opponent instead of punching them.

I never understand why people hate Pokemon is holding a an item or weapon and now their body I think people that have made it a big deal because I don't care if I poked my carrying something so why should people care.

"Anything that a Pokemon holds, rides or throws that's not part of its body" That Maushold with Population Bomb tho.....using your own children as weapons by throwing them at your opponent.

Population bomb is a slice move so probably that its the mouses attacking in succession

We should get a Regional form for Kadabra/Alakazam being Fighting types using knives. Potentially, Cinderace might also apply here, since it uses a pebble to use Pyro Ball for... same for it and Inteleons G-Max forms, that use weapons that aren't part of them.

When it comes to held items, I think it depends on how much you want to percieve Pokemon as a hard or soft magic system. Stuff like natures and stat changes are observable in-universe, yet the mechanics of pokeballs are largely unexplained. So, could items perhaps be stored/registered by a pokedex or pokeball, and their effects channelled to a pokemon during battle? Even if this is the case, physically holding the item still holds true, evidenced by plenty of wild pokemon naturally carrying them. I'm interested in seeing if GameFreak ever reach a level of detail in the main series games where we get to see Pokemon holding items themselves - choice specs would be quite straightforward for example (and probably very funny) along with a few other 'wearable' kinds of items, some objects would simply get held, and maybe others are tied on via necklaces or belts?

the literal hell would freeze before that company would animate only 1/100 of those cosmetics or effects in game. Neat and funny idea but the $$ comes in regardless of good games

While they're not all weapon based the male SWSH protagonist in the Adventures manga almost exclusively trains Pokemon that use tools, like Gurdurr and Mr. Rime, because he specialises in fixing Pokémon tools. Might be interesting for you to look into based on this video.

Rotoms base form is already possessing a lightbulb, I don’t think it can be NOT possessing an object

I wonder whose skull Vullaby is wearing. Doesn't look like a Cubone or Marowak skull.

chansey also has a signature held item that increases its critical hit rate by the same amount as the leek does called lucky punch.

6:48 It says Dreepy is the ghost of a prehistoric pokemon, most prehistoric creatures were known to live in herds where they all help out each other in raising and defending the young so It could be all the options you listed.

The leek is not the only item that increases crit by 2. You forgot about the obscure item “lucky punch” that does the same but only for chansey.

I think a Rotom for every type video would be cool

2:18 Little nuance here, only Galarian Farfetch'd and Sirfetch'd carry leeks. Kantonian Farfetch'd carry green onions, not leeks. The Pokédex even goes so far as to be vague in later generations and say it carries various sticks and stalks, but generation one says it's a green onion, which is what it holds in the official artwork.

Theres actually an interesting character in the Pokemon Special/Adventures manga (Sword&Shield arc) that is specialized in Pokémon weapons. Might want to look him up, his name is Sou, because Sword. Mega Sableye gains a huge Ruby if that counts. Also, Mantine is Dragapult before Dragapult. They uses Remoraid to shoot water guns. Galarian Slowbro have the Shellder hand cannon

Please do a Rotom of every type video. That'd be so cool to see

Frogadier's gen VI Pokedex entry says it coats pebbles with bubbles and throws them. Presumably this is a way of practicing Water Shuriken, which Greninja's Pokedex entry says it creates just from compressed water. Since Water Shuriken is a Move, and only uses water, I don't think Greninja counts as using a weapon.
