So, let’s just say your mother held the NCAA record back in 1978 for points scored and her stats were better than Caitlyn Clark, you turn on the TV and suddenly they’re saying someone else hold the record and their stats are not as good as your mothers. Do you keep quiet just because of the color of your skin, worried someone may accuse you of bringing race to the discussion? People, you really need to think. Yeah, if she were lying about the previous player having better stats or a higher record for scoring, that would be one thing, but that’s not the case.

Its was a matter of progress that we didn’t have the NCAA at that time anyway so recognizing that era would be a great step and that’s something that Hill should really focus on. The fact that you start off by saying you are astonished this could happen in Iowa reveals more ignorance regarding the lack of exposure for women's basketball. Where did the national player of the year come from in 2019? What has been the trajectory of Iowa women's basketball in the last 8-10 years? Iowa has consistently had very solid and entertaining teams, thanks to Bluder, but they were not elite and just one or two elite players on such a team can transform them. This could have happened with Caitlin on many teams. She might have easily become a Cyclone and it would have been exactly the same. There are so many teams right under the top tier that could be crashers with one elite 5-star recruit. If Juju or CC was a Cyclone, they would be top 5.

Don't be jealous and lazy regarding pushing your value as a entertaining product, when all these people you call ignorant are yapping about a spectacular player leading a transformation. To be fair, Iowa put Clark back into the game vs MN with under 5 minutes to play and a 40 point lead simply to make a 3 and break Lynette Woodard's record. Then during the postgame interview, Iowa coach Bluder talked about Lynette how all the AIAW records should be included in the NCAA record books. By making that 3 pointer, it allowed Lynette and the AIAW to be discussed for several days. Had Clark stayed on the bench and waited until the OSU game, both Lynette's and Pete's records would have been broken, but all the talk would have been about Pete. During the OSU vs IA game, Lynette was introduced and got a standing ovation. Maya Moore was there as well.

It is unfortunate that this racial element has to exist, but it does. You are not wrong to point out that SC is not as popular as Iowa, despite going undefeated for the second year in a row. SC fans love their team no less because of Caitlin Clark, and are understandably jealous of all the hype, (not to mention that Iowa beat them in the final four last season). So how do we get beyond this? I really think sports casters try to leave race out of it for the most part, but networks go with the story that will sell products. This is certainly not Clark's fault, she's been overtly magnanimous about Lynette Woodard and Maya Moore, and I thought it was thrilling that Iowa brought them both to the game and honored them......we love our women's basketball in Iowa. I mean, our coach was the legendary C. Vivian Stringer for years! Still, I am tired of listening and reading comments about why black players are being overlooked in the conversations about basketball. One point I wish that was brought up with a lot of guys that never watched women before is this need to compare her to steph. Don’t get me wrong, I see the logo 3 comparison but I think a better comparison is, she’s a combo is three players: sue bird, Diana Taurasi, and Sabrina Ionesco. Just my opinion
@Oneanddone148 ай бұрын
Steph gets brough into the equation because most of the folks watching the women's final four - or Sports Center for that matter - do not know who those ladies are. MMA/UFC is WAY bigger than women's basketball, yet the average spots fan can only name Conor Mcgreger and Ronda Rousey, and she hasn't fought in 8 years.
@larrycarter18758 ай бұрын
@@Oneanddone14 I disagree. Those are some of the most well known names in women’s basketball, even if people remember from college and don’t support the WNBA. I believe some new fans maybe don’t or aren’t that familiar. With the recent fame of Sabrina, I find it hard to believe people don’t know her.
@Oneanddone148 ай бұрын
@@larrycarter1875 My point was the vast majority of the millions watching the final 4 could not name those women given their pictures. Unless one watches the WNBA regularly, which is 500k when broadcast, 1/30th of the final 4, they could not name 3 wnba players. Sabrina who? The biggest demographic of fans are gay women. That is a small group to dig for expansion. How ever backward or offensive this sounds, the majority of the new millions are men and straight women, and a huge part of that are young, white girls and women. Those are the folks buying the tickets and selling out arenas. It will be culturally shocking to view the crowds this year compared to last year.

Ironic that Meadowlark Media doing a segment on how women basketball is not covered when they themselves do not cover it. If Lebron James Farts then to be sure - Meadowlark would do 3 segments on it! Everything Jemell said was spot on. Ppl act as if womens ball started with Caitlyn. It didnt!! Theres a long list women hoopers out here. You can take the time and look up those vaunted UCONN teams, Geno has been around for 30 yrs and won 11 nattys!!! TENN, Coach Summit was around for 30 yrs. They were straight dawgs!!! The wnba pioneers: stayley, catchings, lobo, swoops, cooper, holdsclaw, ivey, mcgee twins, C. Miller ect they were killers in college too. Its just the media didnt cover them like they are covering womens ball now.

It is a star driven model. Clark is generational talent. The gamecocks are the spurs. Dominant but not interesting. Individual stars are what drives the machine,
@thingsaretrash819 ай бұрын
We seem to understand the star driven model in every other sports space. Lebron and Steph are discussed more than the Celtics and Nuggets because they generate more interest. Clark is the star of women's hoops right now. Instead of celebrating that there seems to be this push to make sure that black women are included. Greatness is not fair. Some people have the juice and others do not. Celebrate the juice. Everyone does not need to be celebrated. Eras, and people get ignored all the time

Talk about racist, because she's not black she has to talk about other black players and there accomplishments instead of of talking about her greatness. For these that say black people cant be racist are wrong, they are people like everyone else and hold certain prejudices, its just human nature.

I couldn’t find Caitlin Clark on a broadcast game. I watch women’s basketball. I watched sec basketball. I’d like to see what the hype about Clark is all about. Like page is a good player. She’s worth watching. Every team in the sec is a great television show. UConn is a good team who plays a good game. The television show isn’t always as entertaining. The big ten doesn’t much care about women’s basketball. They’re not showcased at all. Seriously. I should have easily gotten to see the girl play. Oh. The little bit I’ve seen of Clark is she’s another good player. She’d have been appreciated had she played in the sec.
