I'm sorry but I find her reprehensible because she had to have a leopard skin coat (0:55) that lead to the deaths of countless leopards and other big cats because she set the fashion. That was totally unnecessary.

Jackie's wardrobe is timeless. The overall effect is simple. There were no added frills or details. Lines are straight & unadorned. Jackie had a rather odd body almost masculine. She was relatively flat chested, thin, large hands & feet, wide shoulders. The dresses did not draw attention but presented a symmetrical line to the body. The genius lay in the beautiful materials, hair designs, gloves & wraps she often used.

Jill BIden is a joy to watch. A mature wife with a career and a full plate of worries. If she owns a designer garment, we have no clue what, or by whom, it might be. She picks an outfit that will fit her day…and that’s all we ever hear, or see. “Women hold up half the world” could have been coined with her in mind…

These images have so much emotional impact for me. I was in high school when JFK was elected President and I absolutely idolized Jackie in her role as First Lady. She served her country well with such beauty and grace. She also decided the frumpy furnishings in the White House needed a do over and then she proudly gave a televised tour. When she and JFK took their triumphant European tour (in a day and age when Europe was so distant for most Americans), she caused a sensation wearing some of these very gowns. Thank you for this lovely look back!

I thoroughly enjoyed this look at the "Jacqueline Kennedy phenomenon". I had just turned 4 when JFK was elected. I remember vividly how classy and beautiful that (way too short) era looked. My mother even on her miniscule budget wore the styles so strikingly. My Barbie doll wore the Jackie look, along with the knee length bouffant dresses. What seems to have disappeared forever is the idea of people looking neat, tidy and put-together. Even looking at photos of family picnics you see men, women and children looking so attractive and tidy. Yes, Mama spent HOURS at the ironing board to keep her 4 kids looking this way, but the result was so well worth it.

I think the only criticism I heard of Jackie was that she married Onassis. Her.mission with the White House was to bring it back to the state of beauty it deserved. She went into the country's storehouse or storehouses of past presidents, closing the best things possible. She cajoled friends and family into donation items of beauty to the furnishing of the White House. I just wish I had Bern able to tour it with my mother and grandmother who would have been able to truly appreciate her work. She was more than the elegant lady in elegant clothing.

@@suzettemyers6058. Not really to dress like Jackie did is very expensive now. I just looked up a pair of dress shoes at Saks start at $295 up to $1600. And that is just the start. A beautiful silk sleeveless dress is $1600, add in a handbag, stockings, undergarments and jewelry and you can easily spend $5,000 to dress up nice. Most women are doing good to buy food to put on the table, we just can’t afford to dress rich when we are all poor.

I married a young Annapolis grad in 1962. We were penniless, and soon had two infants. When his promotions allowed us a reasonable income, I made one important purchase…a lightweight wool dressy coat with 3/4 length sleeves…and a pair of elbow length white leather gloves,. I was no Jackie Kennedy, but I carried myself as if I were. She was the best style role model of that model era …and any respectable retailer had something that a young wife could afford. She moved me from small town dreamer to poised wife of a future admiral…oh, didn’t we hope…in less than a year.

The pink suit with navy blue details and collar the first lady wore was a Chanel suit. There is a roumor saying that Cassini copied Givenchy-garments; in fact, if you researched fr the style of Balenciaga and Givenchy (being always very similar), you would find some concepts of them, f.e. a lean dress with moderately wide skirt an a short, wider Jacket or top above. Last, but not least, there were quite well-known couturiers in the US, at least well known in both Americas: Mainbocher or Charles James, among others.

Real class and simple elegance! I was in my early teens when she was First Lady, a title she thought sounded like a race horse! I went on to become a professional fashion illustrator in NYC so we all kept our eyes on what she wore all the time! I have a great coffee table book with large photos of all her iconic fashions she wore in the White House, formal wear and casual wear as well. I called her fashions she wore designed by the late Oleg Cassini and influenced by French fashion designer Givenchy as "sherbert colors"! She also had a lot in common with also beautiful inside and out movie/stage actress and humanitarian Audrey Hepburn who was close friends with Givenchy! Born both the same year, both chain smokers, both suffered miscarriages and had stillborn births, both very influential fashion wise, and both passed away within a year! Their influence and spirit live on, thankfully! May they rest in peace~♥♥

I know the pink suit is in a vault according to her daughter. But does anyone know where her wardrobe from her White House years is now?

Watching the excellent profile of the Camelot years, I kept thinking of what followed. The dowdy-on-everyone look of the Lady Bird Johnson styles......People who weren't alive at the time very likely think that style immediately went to Swinging Sixties, the Carnaby Street look. But there was a lull where ugly shapeless dresses predominated. Solid colors thick fabric with no movement and the hideous self-tie belt. Even on college age women. That style did stay with mature women up through the early 70s. But it was sad to see young women dressing like their grandma's.

0:55 there it is. And no mention in the video how many leopards and big cats had to die because she had to have a leopard skin coat. She set the fashion.
