While the 3M may well be superior, I noticed the following. In the last two tests; the rubs appeared more forceful and at a sharper angle on samples 2 & 3.

So it has been two years since I posted this video and I have stayed neutral on many of the comments and I wanted to clarify a few things. Yes I am a sales rep for the product through a 3M Authorized Distributor and I am also a trainer for the product and have been installing Paint Protection for almost 17 years with 7 years on the retail side and 10 years on the distribution and training side. With that being said there is no sleight of hand in this video and for the past two years this has been demonstrated at a number of events including SEMA and I would say that the test examples have their validity in the restyling community with current installers. When it comes down to it there are many good films out on the market today. I am not here to talk negative about one or the other. When it comes to 3M there are three things that come up as objections and they are generally from installers and not consumers. 1. Some installers just hate 3M! 3M did invent Paint Protection Film and has Patents on Paint Protection Films. One competitor has recently been to court over this and is now licensing rights to those patents to continue to produce their film. So it is natural for other installers not using 3M to bash their competition. 2. Installation. Installation can be different with 3M Paint Protection Film as it does have a more aggressive adhesive then some competitors with other films. This can translate to a negative perspective from installers as it is not as forgiving as some other films due to marks caused during installation error or lack of proper training. If you want a fair comparison I would just suggest laying all films side by side on a flat painted surface with just soap and water and then you have a level playing field taking the skill of the installer out of question. 3. Price. This translates back to number one. At the end of the day 3M is the most expensive product out there in most cases and ranges about 10% - 20% more per Sq./Ft. above the other films tested in this video. So if I am looking at it from an installers point then yes it cuts into my installed profit but this is also why there is a Good, Better, and Best in the marketplace. I would also add that most car manufactures use 3M products because they are OEM tested and approved. Research, Development, and testing for OEM’s costs money and I do not see other PPF manufactures spec out when it comes down to OEM applications. In the end I welcome all feedback but I felt that it was important for this to be added. I respect the installers that support the competitors but I also want the general public to know more about the product and to do their own research. It is always funny to me when I see others bashing a product that is becoming popular when other manufactures have followed suit to develop a product while the company that originally developed the product over 30 years ago and patented it is the one in question. Thank you, Todd Bergman Interwest Distribution todd@interwestdc.com www.interwestdc.com 1-800-232-8468

Between the first two Sharpie tests, the towel stays completely in frame. At the 0:34 mark, the towel is off-screen for a split second, and the Sharpie comes off "almost magically." Please re-shoot this test without the towel leaving the shot or shifting position at all.

I did my own digital analysis of the segment of video you called out and found no editing artifacts between Sharpie wipe 1, 2 or 3. Additionally, the physical grip he maintains on the microfiber remains intact throughout each wipe coupled to no digital artifact evidence showing an edit/interrupt in the timing of the video. I've analyzed the lighting, colorization and frame reference using several independent elements that also remain constant between wipes 1, 2 and 3 - once again, I found no concrete evidence of a clever edit. Therefore, I believe this video to be an authentic unedited stream of 3M Whoop Ass against XPEL and SunTek.

The clarity and longevity of Xpel over the others is whats important, lets be real unless you have people trying to scratch your car everyday this test really does not pertain to you. Also you can use rubbing alcohol to remove the Marker paint even lacquer thinner from the others. Watch other video comparisons the results are much different. He treated the 3M with something before hand.

Hi Jason, This is Scotchgard Pro Series that was just released in the United States in the last few months and not the standard Scotchgard (SGH6). Scotchgard Pro Series has a very low surface energy compared to other films on the market thus making it more stain resistant and scratch resistant. Listed below are substrates with measured surface energy as well as films with their measured surface energy. We all know why we use Teflon coated cookware and this is the same concept when you are talking about stain resistance, scratch resistance, and scuff resistance. Although not all of these tests are real life situations it shows the durability comparisons that other film companies have used in the past. The films in this demo were not treated with anything prior. Substrate: Surface Energy (dyne/cm) Epoxy Paint = 43 Urethane Paint = 43 Polyethylene = 31 Teflon = 18 Film: Surface Energy (dyne/cm) SGH6 = 36.1 XPEL Ultimate = 38.6 Suntek = 35.7 Pro Series = 30.3 The new 3M Scotchgard Pro Series also has better clarity than the other films listed above with an increased warranty to seven years and have completed OEM testing that other films have not done or have failed. Thank you, Todd Bergman Interwest Distribution

For the Sharpie test, he keeps his finger in the same spot on the cloth for the first two, then moves the cloth out of frame where I suspect he moves his finger to a spot on the cloth with a solvent that allows it to wipe off so easily by comparison.

I don't know if he switched the towels, but he is definitely applying more pressure on SG. He uses only his index finger (pointer) on first two, but is definitely using both index AND middle fingers on SG wipe. And spends more time. Whether intentional or not, he should use the exact same methods to compare. Also, the overhead fluorescent lighting really diminishes the value entire video.

I find ia amusing how you refuse to clean the other products using the product's instructions. For example, the XPEL would be clear of sharpie marks with a tad bit of alcohol applied. It will go away just like the 3M. I also noticed you didn't use rocks instead of the back end a squeegie. Rocks cause far worse gouge damage and even 3M can't prevent that with a quit rubbing.

The video channel is a 3M distribution company. I would say there's a pretty massice conflict of interest here. Also, the video should be reshot with you clearly applying each brand, so we don't have to just take your possibly biased word for it? I'm legitimately looking at wrapping my car again, and this video isn't helping 3M in my research.

Why don't you just tell us what part of 3M you work for now and pipe down? People have legitimate reasons for questioning this, especially when there are SO many resources out there that contradict these findings. I have watched the video maybe 4 times and it is clear that he does things different for the other two, especially with the sponge. Quit acting like a child while chasing every negative comment. Really looks like you are the one whining here.

Im looking for an unbiased opinion. I live in northern Alberta where we see -40 degrees Celsius. I want to get paint protection done. The shop i want to use can do either 3m or xpel. My problem is I want clarity and they suggested not getting ultimate or pro as it doesnt protect as well as the thicker model and the self healing wont work in that cold of weather. they told me the ultimate or pro will be clearer and harder to see (which is what i want) but when a rock hits it, it will tear rather then just scuff like the other model. what should I do?

Alden Buyer If I'm not impressed with what I see in a video, why would I waste money buying the product just to make a point? That would be wasting my money. I'll gladly test the products myself if they were sent to me though. I simply made a comment that I wasn't buying what is being put forth in this video, & that's based on my own personal experience. It's not my job to police the internet & spend my own money to put random products to the test, that's not what my channel is about. As I said, if anyone wants to send me something to test, then I'll test it, but I really don't have any interest in spending my own money on products that I am not going to use.

If XPEL was truly better or self-healing, why in the "Taking care of film" manual for XPEL, it states to polish with a finishing pad to remove scratches ? It makes me laugh when a Rep from XPEL touts that it has "higher clarity" and when questioned they admit they are referring to reflection. This is actually not a good thing when placed over factory clearcoat paint as in virtually all cases it has not received "paint correction" to have a mirror reflection, and is clever marketting from XPEL. 3M Scotchgard is designed to have a reflection that closely resembles that of "orange peel" effect in the reflection of factory clearcoat paint, making it less perceivable. 3M Scotchgard also has the highest transparency of all films making it the least perceivable film on the market. The only instance XPEL Ultimate may be better is over paint that is already damaged from pitting, deep scratches, or has had rock-chip repair because its lower transparency and smoother finish over rough paint will hide that damage. I've installed for 7 years and have used many different films. For putting over clean and undamaged paint, Pro-Series is best bar none. What more do you expect from 3M, a $30-billion company that holds the patent ? Dealerships trying sell XPEL will obviously say otherwise, but XPEL Ultimate is also a cheaper film.

there is no cleaning solution on the towel. you would see it on the reflections if it would get wet. Even if you lightly wet your towel you would still see that it gets wet and evaporates quickly. The only way to fake this video if he put wax or ceramic coating on the 3m film. That would be the easiest way to do it and you wouldn't be able to tell and all markers and scratches would come off a lot easier. Btw 3M is the biggest company out of the 3 so I wouldn't surprised if this was all legit.

This is ridiculous. Here's my take. Why the hell would I care how easily a Sharpie marker comes off? Who the hell writes on their car with a Sharpie? There are lots of things a Sharpie won't stick to. On the other three damage type tests, all the films were getting clean eventually. He "cleans" for a couple of seconds on each only. So the other two would come clean in a few more seconds. Who the heck cares? In my opinion, all he's proving is that they are all the same in real-world practical application.

Micro fiber cloth goes out of frame before 3M film is wiped in 1st test. 2nd test is neutral. (Coz it was genuine) 3rd test, placement of index finger on the micro-fiber cloth changes (finger re-placed on surface with some chemical) before wiping off the 3M film. 4th test, when applying pressure on 3M film with squeegee, the hood seems to be pretty strong compared to when applying pressure on other two films as the hood starts to deform a lot(clearly more pressure applied on the other two films). STAGED/FAKE COMPARISON You could tell that on all the pressure tests you were easy on the 3M, and used considerably more force when doing the tests on the others. While cleaning you did the reverse, you used more force on the 3M and barely put force on the others. You can also tell that in the sharpie test you used a different part of the towel between 3M and the others, by looking at the position of the towel and the finger.
