What about regular wax? My brother told me there were places where you leave your car there the whole day and every other hour or something, they will wax and buff your car for the whole day. Building up layers and so when you come get it its got a glossy thick layer that any rock chip or scratch can easily buff right out.

Also, I appreciate you leave it to to your audience to make a decision, however it doesn’t hurt for you to give more insight on your personal experiences, for example, have you wrapped one of your cars, what did you experience? If you want to make another video with these PPF brands, I have a gross test for you. Bird poop. Put the fender(?) with 4 different PPFs under a tree where birds perch. When sufficiently covered in poop, use a hose to see which PPF takes the least time and effort to clean. They'll likely all be clean with a pressure washer. I wanted to see which cleans fastest, easiest with just a garden hose. It's moot for me. After seeing you video, I got 3M PPF on my Tesla Model 3. When I say it looks great, I mean I don't see it at all. I clean my car with just a pressure washer. No problems on the PPF or the paint.

Does rubbing alcohol ruin the hydrophobic layer? How long does the hydrophobic layer last? Would ceramic coating be better than the factory hydrophobic coating?
@tesbros
@tesbros 2 жыл бұрын
Rubbing alcohol will diminish the hydrophobic qualities overtime IF it's too strong. Just make sure it's diluted with water or more like 50-70% iso alcohol. The hydrophobic layer on PPF usually lasts around 6 months. And yes, if you want ceramic coating properties, I would go ahead and ceramic coat the PPF as well. It'll last a lot longer.

That'll be Avery Supreme Defense in our DIY PPF kits. The price of the high quality films in the video will be about the same. What will differ the most in price is shop location (area's cost of living) and their rates.

@@tesbros didn't know there was no tacky or skip solution in the package for this job. Where do I get that? Guess rest for job I have, 2 of these plastic scrapers. Last question, do I not try to round the ppf into the round edges of say lights and stuff? Remember Ryan from Kilowatts had his done self and it accumulated so much dirt right at the edge of ppf or vinyl cause he didn't remove the door trim and tucked it under? Will this be a problem, dirt magnet right at the edge of film? Thanks.

Since you only got the bumper, you have to buy the installation tools separately. Sorry for the confusion! The installation tool kit is 15% off right now with code ELECTRICJOY15: tesbros.com/products/installation-tool-kit-model-y-diy-kit Good question but no it won't be a problem as long as the PPF isn't hanging over the edges. Make sure you install right inside the edge and not over. That's where the dirt catches.

What is the cost in terms of value to most expensive on these 4 for customers? Also have you all serviced the new Foaker Oceans yet?
@mrgold3591
@mrgold3591 9 ай бұрын
Pricing depends on installer if you don't plan to do it yourself. The cost comes from color correction, chip repair, and labor of installing the PPF. Notice prices are regional and depend on how many installers in the area. Some installers use custom cut sheets and others cut from large roll and form to almost any size that needs protection. Find an installer that "tucks the seams" in cracks and around corners to help hide the film for an invisible look. It can cost $300-$700 for front end bra (headlights, side mirrors, front bumper), $1000-$1500 for entire front end (hood, bumper, fenders, headlights, side mirrors), and $3500-$4500 to do an entire sedan. PPF like Suntek and XPEL have a 10 year warranty.

Good idea! Around the 11:00 mark, I do hit the bumper with the screwdriver without PPF to show the difference, but yes, having it for all the tests is a good idea we’ll keep in mind next time we do something like this.

a little confusing...a control would be for assessing treatment versus no treatment....this is a comparison of the treatments therefore control results would not aid comparison between the films

Hey!!! I loved the video; it helped us understand what options are available. But I have one more question. How does a satin finish PPF affect the different performance specs of each brand? do all the brands have a satin/matte alternative to there PPF? does this change affect hydrophobic qualities and or scratch-resistant qualities? We really like the matte look but would not go for it if it comes at the cost of certain performance drawbacks. In other words, does 3M have a matte equivalent that works the same as its gloss PPF?
@tesbros
@tesbros 2 жыл бұрын
Matte and gloss PPF both have the same qualities! Not all brands have the matte option, but most do nowadays (or will soon). 3M does have a matte option. Here you can find 3M's specs for their matte pro series: www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b5005067101/

ppf is really hard if not impossible to find in bulk let alone as precut kits in the EU (outside of installers) for some reason, so I am pretty much limited to 3M and XPEL options for pre-cut kits (imported). I am suprised that 3M has a hydrophobic property since I cant find it anywhere in the specs on their site. I have heard Xpel is more forgiving but 3M Pro seems to be the better product overall. Is the film with hydrophobic properties even worth it or is it better to just apply a ceramic coat afterwards to get an even better result and does it interfer with the self healing property in any way?
@tesbros
@tesbros 2 жыл бұрын
If you're already gong to do a ceramic coating, I wouldn't worry about getting a PPF with hydrophobic properties. No, it doesn't interfere with self healing

So which one is best? There is no hydro coating on the XPEL. Do you or can you add something to it? Thanks!
@tesbros
@tesbros 8 ай бұрын
All of these are great. I typically use Avery or STEK, but you can't go wrong with any of these brands. Yes, you can add ceramic coating to all PPF to make it hydrophobic. I even recommend adding it to factory coated PPF as it will last years longer than the factory coating. You can DIY or have it pro installed. We like Gyeon Mohs Evo if you're going the DIY route. It's more forgiving than other coatings so it's easier to work with: tesbros.com/products/gyeon-q-mohs-evo-basic-bundle
