A COMPLETE BONSAI WORKSHOP ON FICUS BONSAI,

Here is a complete workshop on ficus Variens bonsai. It's now the 4 years old. Transplanting this bonsai after a year. Root ball correction and branch pruning is done as routine work, the special operation is done on its surface roots. Bonsai needs radial surface roots, how you can make it and how to maintain the proportionate thickness of the radial roots of your bonsai!

Yes Praveen, you can. February and september is preferable for pruning. Your plant health must be well enough.

Anita ji, I'm so sorry for the late to answer your question. The three surface roots that I cut were not just the Tap roots, the thickest one was actually the main tap root and the thicker one was a branch root of the main root and they were developing as well as the tree trunk was growing. They are not suitable for bonsai as they are proportionately not suitable as a surface root of such small tree. Now eventually some fine surface roots will grow from that area and I've to select few of them to grow and rest will be sacrificed. Hope you can realize the matter well. Yes it appears to be so, an experienced bonsai maker only understand the action. If you can imagine the future when the root will grow more thicker then you also can understand it will not let the tree to be look like a natural mature tree. So a bonsai maker should have imagination power of future growth of a tree.
