LOST is kinda nuts because he legitimately didn’t have answers to a lot of stuff he set up in Season 1 but then the writing team got to work and put together an interesting mythology that actually really works if you take the time to decode it. I love that show but knew there was some stuff that was poorly explained. Then I watched the LOST Explained channel and am now convinced the writers are geniuses haha
@simonmacomber74666 ай бұрын
Even if you got JJ Abrams to sit down with you, he couldn't explain everything to you because there _is_ no explanation. His problem with "Mystery Box" stories is that he creates the mystery, but never bothers to create the solution. He doesn't even care about the solution because the "mystery" is supposed to be enough to get people to watch his movies or shows. None of it is prepared, not thought goes into the reasons _why,_ he just throws everything at the wall to see what sticks.
@NorthStarBlue16 ай бұрын
This, pretty much. Also Marvel has made saying "it's a multiverse" and letting fans draw their own conclusions an easy and accepted way to handwave away inconsistencies, so any future movies are probably going to lean even harder on that rather than trying to actually tie everything together in any logical way.
@swarple2 ай бұрын
Personally I don’t actually mind that in and of itself. I think these stories are creepier without an explanation, and no answer would be satisfactory. The real problem imo is that he tried to explain everything in the first place, through The Cloverfield Paradox. “Because multiverse” is an extra unsatisfying explanation, but I think any explanation honestly would’ve been disappointing.

Almost less of a 'franchise' and more like an industry stamp that JJ Abrams puts on all of the science fiction movies he produces through Bad Robot. Everything but the first movie was a spec scrip, though. Meaning it was written independently of that franchise and just given some light re-writes to squeeze it in. Kind of like the middle run of Hellraiser movies like Inferno and Deader. Those were just generic scripts that got branded.

I think some of the best stories and mediums of art, is in the story telling of the mystery box. Honestly, the fact that Lane and Paradox got some gentle rewrites to fit into a similar box made for the first Cloverfield sorta kills any shared lore between them. At best, you can say they’re all parallel stories in different universes, sorta like how Twilight Zone or Outer Limits episodes are usually self-contained, but set within an overarching “universe.” Thusly, the Cloverfield movies are self-contained, only connected by references and nods. Also, talking about the whole “fandom might not be accurate” bit drudged up a core memory; I was sucked into the ARG as a young adult, with Cloverfield coming out a couple months before my 20th birthday, and I absolutely remember the whole “Ethan Haas Was Right” gamejacking. Good times lmao

mini rant about how much ive grown to hate JJ abrams by exploring this franchise. The 1st movie is awesome except the dates are wrong in it when compared to the arg which is fine that isn't too big of a plot hole and can easily be explained away by myspace not being able to backdate stuff. Everything fits and there's cool lore with the deep sea nectar actually being what the parasites use as venom when they bite people which causes them to pop, along with themes of corporate greed and environmental activism. So that ties into Jamie who is slumped over and presumably dies in the movie after ingesting all the nectar that teddy told her not to eat but she did anyways out of spite. Which makes a lot of the cloverfield movie even better as there was no hope in saving Jamie the whole time. My Problem is with the sequels that shouldn't be sequels. The creatures in 10 cloverfield land are semi-reminiscent of Clover and that's where the connections stop. There's no reason for it to be in the universe of cloverfield, it's dumb and it wasn't even supposed to be connected just like with the cloverfield paradox. Why do these all need to be connected, I get we're only on the 3rd movie in the universe but every subsequent movie after the 1st feels like jj making the 1st one worse. Making a clover-verse is extremely hamfisted. I hope the 4th one being a direct sequel to the 1st is true and that it completely ignores 10 cloverfield lane and the cloverfield paradox. It just feels JJ hates the franchise and wants it to fail or my personal theory is he is smoking some CRAZY strain of weed when he makes decisions for this universe.

Very nice video. FWIW, I always took the falling “satellite” at the end of the Cloverfield to be the space capsule used to escape the space station in Paradox. Also the size of the monster in Cloverfield seemed inconsistent across different shots, indicating to me that BOTH the mother and baby were rampaging through the city.
@Masochistickoala2 ай бұрын

@davidhuster27007 ай бұрын
It seems convoluted because these scripts were written separately and the studio made them be cloverfield movies. All the "sequels" weren't supposed to be. That's why you can watch the sequels so independently. That's been covered by tons of film critics and admitted by the crews of the movies. 10 Cloverfield lane was meant to be a separate movie, and aside from the name has literally nothing to do with cloverfield

I considered that, but it didn’t quite fit. The whistleblower is someone working undercover for Tagruato. Randy is a public facing member of TIDO Wave, with his name on the website. @BryanTheDM ok buddy, calm down. 👍 the game is playing out like it is happening within our reality, but there are things that only happen within the game, not our reality, therefore augmenting our reality. I think Cloverfield Paradox opened up multiple portals One is where the baby alien shot out of and then landed in the ocean on earth in Cloverfield I think at the end of Paradox that’s either the baby alien all grown up and the Cloverfield ship being gone caused a planet of the apes situation where they come back and the alien is fully grown after destroying earth because time passed differently so now it’s bigger Or that’s the aliens mom that came out through that same portal the baby came from and went to earth herself, so they’re seeing mom who is much bigger than the baby Or maybe Paradox opened the portal for the monster and it starts going around hitting Slusho rigs, then the thing that lands in the ocean is aliens there to kill the monster waiting until it hits the right near the city, and either it takes them longer to regroup and we don’t see them attack the monster because the cameraman dies or they intentionally wait so they don’t also have to fight the military, then Lane shows the aftermath of them killing the monster and enslaving humanity Cloverfield Lane is either another universe or it’s just in a different area than Cloverfield 1? So either the aliens pop out of a different portal on the other side of earth from where the alien landed and start invading from the other side and that’s why the aliens are a bigger threat than the monster, or Cloverfield Lane takes place after paradox and Cloverfield 1, we tried beating the monster(s) and failed, so aliens came in and killed them and then enslaved the rest of humanity, maybe the monster(s) left America after destroying New York and got nuked in another country, it’s still fresh news and far away which is why the aliens get to this area first And then I think Overlord if it stayed in the universe would’ve had a post credits scene where a portal opens up and a horde of zombies go through, implying they also go to the earth of Cloverfield 1, and I think it would be cool if they come in after the aliens and take out the aliens, then you have a new Cloverfield zombie movie where groups of humans are fighting zombie Nazis and aliens and maybe a zombie Cloverfield monster pops up at the end of Edit: Also, the reason the baby alien shot into the ocean there is because an “oil rig” hit something, it’s actually an undercover Slusho mine, they get whatever ingredient they need from somewhere deep in the ocean, maybe this is why the alien landed there, whatever they’re mining for Slusho is also a food source for the alien, I don’t think it’s sea weed or whatever, it’s something they need to mine

I wonder if that movie that came out (with Mary Elizabeth Winstead too might I add, maybe she was attached before it became standalone) where a girl could like mentally control a monster ravaging a city (I haven’t seen the movie I think it ended up being metaphorical so I could be so wrong) Maybe that monster was originally Clover and then it became its own thing I say this because of the comic you brought up I had never seen it before What if the girl from Lane came back in a sequel and helped take down the monster while the survivor from Paradox (and any survivors from Overlord if it was apart of the canon) and others come together to defeat the aliens, and the zombies too or save that for another movie lol

I feel like the only way you'd get answers is if you continued the franchise, but ejected JJ entirely because the man is allergic to continuity and lore. He just makes it all up on the fly even if there's pre-existing lore, even if he was the one who made that lore!

Probably would've worked better if in first movie the seabed nectar was extracted from the monster itself who was still asleep undersea but they woke it up or the satellite falling wakes it up
