Omg!!! FINALLY a realistic tipping suggestion video!!! You know who I love to tip? The people that are looked over. I saw a man on his knees clipping grass with scissors every day. I gave him $20, and he cried. He couldn't speak English, but his appreciation didn't need words ❤.

As you fly in look out the window. The poverty is heartbreaking. Because I am so blessed (like most Americans) I try really hard to be a blessing. I tip as much and as often as I am able. Look at your budget, decide what you can afford, set it aside then use it all. Generosity looks different for different people but whatever you budget be generous. I guarantee your life is more comfortable than theirs and I guarantee you will not go unappreciated. Be kind yall❤

Agree so much. Kindness is the magic word here. Setting a budget aside is a great tip (see what I did there :)?). The fact that I cannot afford to tip as much as the average American does not mean that I am a lesser person. Kindness and giving what you can, exactly that!

First off, great video! It left me a bit amazed though :). I think there is a great difference in culture. In my view, Americans are huge tippers. Pay per drink? Seriously? I could not afford that, I'm sorry. I live of 75% of minimum wages in the Netherlands and save up for my trip to Mexico all year. Of course I am aware of the financial situation in Mexico and I do tip. But certainly not 10 dollars a day for only my drinks. It's great that you pay attention to this subject. However, maybe we should also keep in mind that someone else's financial situation is not for me to judge. For me, it's the gesture that counts, not the amount. Even people who can afford going to Mexico, may live soberly at home. Give what you can and be kind to staff.

Most Mexican workers at the resort make on average 270 pesos a day . In US dollars that’s 10 dollars a day. 1 of our dollars is work 20 of their pesos. A 5 dollar tip is half of there daily salary . Disclaimer most resorts require the workers to put tips in a jar and the manager pulls out there share or what they want and the rest is split among the rest.

I just got back, at the bar I was tipping out before I left each spot. If dinner 4$ breakfast 2$ Swim up bar 4$ at end of session. If we met more people and asked for large rounds of drink more than 5$ depending on the situation and how many people. Went charter fishing and they tried to get tips for the "sights," natural environment. That was a no for me considering I already spent 800$usd for 6 hours.

One of the first times we went to Mexico I didn't realize there was a sensor on the door that would cut off the air conditioning. I called the front desk and they sent a maintenance man to fix it, which he quickly diagnosed. I tipped him $5. He said "all for me". I replied "of course. You really helped us out". He was SO GRATEFUL. It wasn't much, only $5, but his reaction to receiving it was as good a memory as I have from that trip.

These are good guidelines, and I feel better about the way I distributed my tipping based on your comments. I probably error on the more generous side (example $5/day for house keeping and we keep the place pretty nice, $10 for evening dinners at the nicer restaurants), and our butlers at Majestic Elegance got $50-$60 depending on their attention/personality/engagement. We've had really good experiences with them. Thanks for the video!

In a major metro area in the U.S. 20% is the norm now. They expect it. James great video but you left out the towel people at the pool, the person who keeps the public restroom spotless at the pool and the guys who go out at 5AM and scrape the sea weed off the beach. The pool people I tip $2 once during the week each. If everyone does that they are golden. I've yet to tip the beach scrapers but I know I should. I'm trying to relate your Mexico rules to DR and I'm thinking I may be overtipping just a bit. Thanks for the video.

Its thier job. Next are we tipping 711 and walmart. I worked in a hotel in SD. The people who have tip jobs usually are the drug free happy people who deliver a holsome service with a smile. The cooks and janiters house keeping usually have a checkered background and horrible communication skills with bad tempers thats why the do those low paying jobs. Its slim pickins for them. You dont have to feel like we need to give our money to labor the company can pay them a fare wage.

Prob is with some of these all inclusives they also include sometime a resort fee which includes a 10per tip. Now wether or not the company shares that we don’t know but that’s what that resort fee is including so to then add additional tips as you mentioned and rightly so seems like at the end of the day if u tack on resort free of 10per in tips and take an avg 10per tips out of your generosity your getting double dipped and paying roughly 20per tip overall. So really need to see if those resorts don’t include that service/resort fee as additional on the bill. If they don’t then what your r suggesting is about right.

Why do you use US Dollars? Why not tip in Pesos? You are in Mexico, not the USA! - Are 90% of tips in $US because Americans don't tend to go abroad and think their currency is king? I wouldn't dream of going to a foreign country and using my home currency as payment! In London, tipping is not the norm for Brits so you wouldn't be expected to tip a taxi driver. You might round up a taxi fare by £2 or so but it isn’t expected in most European countries to tip. Service is normally included these days. (only mentioned that as it was mentioned in the video) I do believe in tipping, where it is the norm, but some of these amounts suggested are ridiculous. British people tend to use contactless payments for most transactions, not necessarily cash these days, so it is awkward in a pool bar for example, where you wouldn't have cash on you!-

If you are in a pool, where do you keep the money in order for the bills not to get wet?

In the places we stay, we usually have the same butlers and waiters around the pool every day. So instead of tipping after every drink, we tip once every couple of days and when we are on the sun loungers and get a drink. We have little handbags in which we always keep a couple of bills.
