So a few years ago I had my AirPods in as I was boarding. As I stepped on to the plane a shifted my shoulder bag over my head and bumped one AirPod out… and watched as it fell through the crack between the plane and tunnel. 😫😨 The flight attendant saw it happen. A few minutes later I hear “To the gentleman who lost his AirPod, please push the call button. We have it.” Haha! I couldn’t believe I got it back! 😄 10:34

I used to travel full time for work, and I had this happen multiple times. Just an FYI, when a flight is delayed more than 2 hours, they will usually give you vouchers for food when asked. Also, if a flight is cancelled due to anything other than weather, they will usually give you a free hotel room. Once you're back home, contact AA customer service and see about compensation. What happened was beyond their control. They pilot's duty time was the final factor in the cancellation.

I'm in the camp that believes a system failure found before take-off is much better than the system failing at 30,000 feet. I'll take the delay/cancellation with a grain of salt.

So true. Sometimes the first transfer is the way to go, but not always. I've heard stories personally from people in PHX about delays, sometimes due to excessive heat, seemed more like something with the craft here. Either way, total bummer, don't be mad, also nobody should be mad at the 14 hour pilot rule. Definitely want those people well rested. My father in law used to work for UPS as a long road driver, he told me stories how 20 hours straight pretty much those would go, they had two drivers. One starting drive and 10 hours were their limits. When that 10 hour was met, that was when they switched. The previous driver was in the back sleeping and resting then tag team time that 2nd driver switches and off they go. He said they never spoke etc, when it was time to switch it was one punched out on the clock and the other guy punched in. 14 hours though, not gonna lie, let them sleep. Don't want pilots pushing it. Take off and landing especially, just do it safely.

As a pilot (but not for that particular company) what a pain in the arse day, you had. We've all gotten screwed this way, blame the parent company everyone, not the A&P's, gate agents or flight crews. Write emails, call and let them all know, the staffing issues are ridiculous. Great video Adam

I’ve been through this type of thing many times and yes it’s frustrating but what I hate more is the people who throw hissy fits and yell at staff who are NOT in control. I love watching people scream at the gate staff because a flight is delayed because of weather or broken parts because they of course can control those things! You handled things well!

And us Aviation employees TRULY appreciate flyer’s like you. People think we purposely cause delays to earn extra money…No! When the airplane break is on and sitting parked we also, sit, sweat on the ✈️ and do not get paid. We have no control over Mother Nature. It is safer to sit on the ground than to try to fly through a State that the weather has storms. Turbulence or the airplane getting struck by lighting is definitely not a fun experience. You are appreciated! 🙌✈️🙌

If the airline cancels a flight not related to weather, then they usually pay for your hotel and provide meal vouchers. Also, try to find ANOTHER customer service center in a different terminal. They will probably have a shorter line.
@Chrisb8s

That’s a good idea. Although American is only in terminal 4
@willb.383
@willb.383 Жыл бұрын
This could be why AA delayed refueling and were slow on finding replacement crew at a hub. They wanted the cancellation to be about the weather that forced a change in flight plan and not about their issues. Therefore, they aren’t required to pay travelers.

That Ace Ventura quote was perfect. I had flight credits on American and actually re-booked on some Alaska flights. I find AA very unreliable - though their employees are quite helpful in the airport when there are delays - which happen often.
@TheMissouriSpartan
@TheMissouriSpartan Жыл бұрын
This happened to me once. The plane had a failure in the cockpit. One of the displays for the primary instruments had failed, and the technician AA sent didn't have any spare parts to fix it, they'd have to cannibalize it from another plane, and it would've taken too long, so they just cancelled the flight and re-booked folks for the next one. The problem for me was there was nasty weather going through and that flight promised to be rather......rough. So, I opted to take a flight the next morning, and stayed at the hotel attached to the airport, to fly out the next morning. It's annoying, but just like cars, things break in planes and engine breakdowns happen. Tis life.

I once flew into Tampa on Jet Blue. Tampa isn't a repair place for Jet Blue, so they announced that they were flying in a mechanic (s) from NYC. So I knew that flight was toast. Nothing available to NYC until the next day. Things happen, some people get upset, but would they want to fly on a broken plane?

The plane has an Auxiliary Power Unit ( APU ) in the tail to power the lights, air conditioning etc... while the plane is on the ground. This burns jet fuel, so if the aircraft sits on the ground for too long it will need a top up of fuel. Your flightpath has changed due to bad weather so the amount of fuel required to fly a longer route around it adds to the amount of fuel required. I sat on the ground for 45 minutes at Sydney airport because one of the planes Black Box flight recorders was faulty and had to be pulled out , a new one fitted and signed off by an engineer.

HEY ATW...WHAT YOU THOUGHT WAS A WASTED DAY, WAS certainly something much different than you realize. There was no way you were flying yesterday. There were "Land Hurricanes" across the U.S. sweeping S-SE . Flight patterns to Florida intersected with them. What you believed was an unfortunate turn of events was Adonai (Hebrew: The Lord) keeping you safe. I'm not playing religion, I am just giving credit where credit is due. I'm a reluctant convert, but after a similar experience last year I became convinced about the efficacy of using the airlines private clubs. American Airlines is the Admirals Club. You can either join or just pay a smallish fee for essentially a day pass. I’m the way you used to be Adam regarding airplanes. I haven’t flown since 99’ and I’m sorta scared of it now. As a kid I loved it so I’ve regressed apparently!😮

Omg this was my BIGGEST fear when I recently moved back home to Florida from Vegas. The west really can trap you there and it’s so difficult to leave it 😂

Love how cool Adam stays. He's right...why get upset over something you have no control over... things will always come out in the end.
