Hey, please read this if you plan on taking your Part 107 exam soon!: I passed my part 107 exam last week with a 95 and I was somewhat surprised by this score because most of the questions covered by these review videos were not on my test. I got a lot of questions pertaining to flying at night, flying over people, hazardous behaviors, and sectional charts. There were few questions on Density altitude, fog and weather formations, rules about flying over people and differentiating air apressure based on altitude. I even had a question on a section of Part 48, which I had no idea how to answer. With all that said, I did not pay for any courses, but watch this video and a number of other videos on KZbin, but take this seriously! It is actually tricky. Study sectional charts, weather reports, remote Id, regulations for flying at night! Understand air pressure at sea level, dew point and humidity and calculating cloud ceilings. Take practice tests. Kings School has free practice tests ! Hope this helps. Let me know if you have specific questions

That was a tough exam! Passed with an 82. I had one question pertaining to the airport signage and it referred to the figure in the supplement book and asked where you can find more information on the meaning of theses signs. I believe it was aeronautical information manual. So many questions I had no idea based on all the videos and material I reviewed.

Stable Air vs. Unstable Air: Just remember stable air as "stale/lingering" and NOT moving/blowing..... so, if there's precip it would come down continuous (in unstable air, it would be blowing and showery).... if there is fog/haze/smoke, stable/stale air doesn't move it so it'll be lingering and visibility would be fair to poor (in unstable air, it would blow the haze/smoke away so visibility would be good). Also, Unstable = Cumuliform (both have "U" in word)....Stable = Stratiform (both words start with "S").

For me the key to remembering was when I realized that we have thunder showers we don't have thunder rain. A steady rainy day is usually pretty calm that's the stable air. Those hot, humid summer afternoons that are clear until the thunder showers begin, those are unstable air situations.

1:27:14 The aircraft would be south and would make a left turn to land onto RWY 31 (a heading of 310 degrees) while the opposite end of the runway would be RWY 13 ( a heading of 130 degrees)(310 - 180 = 130). It doesn"t matter which direction the wind is blowing in this example.

At 1:53:00, look at the edge between the tan and green terrain sections. You'll see a small 2000 written. That is the elevation of the contour line, and its the only contour line shown between area 1 & 2. The legend in the bottom right corner says the contour interval is 500 ft, so that's why the answer is 2000-2500. I found that info in the Aeronautical Chart User's Guide.

Or I think you can use Mean Sea Level (MSL) of those obstructions in that area subtracted by Above Ground Level (AGL) in the parenthesis. That should tell the terrain level in MSL in general. In this case, they range between 2000-2500.

1:51:19 To convert the 46.9 to degrees and minutes, multiply the .9 x 60 = 54 so this would be 46 degrees 54 minutes. 60 minutes (or tick marks) equal 1 degree. In this case the 98.6 would be 98 degrees 36 minutes (.6 x 60).

At 1:52:55 is the question about the terrain elevation between Minot and Audobon Lake, with the answer being 2000' MSL to 2500' MSL, and there's confusion because there are elevations listed in the tan area that go above 2500' MSL. But those values are the elevations of the towers, not the terrain. Each of those elevation numbers has a tower height right below it. If you subtract one from the other, you'll get the elevation of the terrain at the base of each structure, and you'll see that the terrain in that area does, in fact, stay between 2000' and 2500' MSL.

1:28:00 I had a pilot explain it to me in a way that made sense finally. Pilot says he's left base to runway 31. 31 means during takeoff or landing, the plane will be pointing at 310 degrees on the compass. The aircraft compass has the plane symbol in the middle and the compass rosette rotates around it. So if your landing on runway 31, your nose is pointed to the north west. Also, the runway directions are laid out based on prevailing winds. Since they always want to take off and land into the wind, that means the winds there are usually blowing from 310 degrees and towards ~135. Left means the runway is on the pilots left.

At 1:27:30 the reason the answer is south is because it is Runway 31. 31 indicates traffic azimuth in normal conditions, 310 degrees, so planes would land and takeoff at a bearing of 310 degrees, or headed from the southeast end of the runway to the northwest. For another example, Runway 9 would be oriented at 90 degrees. I hope that helps someone else who is studying. I really appreciate your effort in putting this together. It must have taken many many hours.

In this case, the aircraft took off at a heading of 135 degrees, then turned crosswind to a heading of 045, and then to downwind on a heading 315 degrees. When the aircraft is midfield, it is East.

The Cooperstown Airport is “Left Traffic”. I checked this on the airport directory in skyvector.com. The aircraft would be in a left circle pattern. Yes, the aircraft would be on the south east end of the runway and most likely ready for the left turn to final approach. The apposing runway that is opposite of RWY31 would be RWY13. That is 310 - 180 = 130 so it becomes RWY13. The 13 is also shown in the directory. The airport is left traffic so I assume that is what is referenced in the question “left” base. I’m not positive on that, at either rate its left traffic pattern. The wind direction s not necessary to answer the question, however we know wind would be from NW because planes land flying into winds.
@RocketryCarolina
@RocketryCarolina 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think the thing to remember is that the wind direction determines what runway heading is in use that day, and thus determines which bearing is considered "downwind", "base" & "final" for that day, in conjunction with whether the airport uses a "left" pattern or a "right" pattern. Most small airports I've flown into use a left pattern because it's easier on the pilot of a small plane to see the runway they're lining up for because it's on their side of the aircraft from the left hand seat. Kind of like a car in the US. I think the best way to deal with the question is to draw a small diagram and label the legs, then you can see the layout of the pattern and put the aircraft in its position and see N, S, E or W position.

I passed my part 107 with an 87%. IF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE THE EXAM READ THIS: I am older and need reading glasses. One of the things that was giving me fits was the 8080 2G supplemental (BTW you should read this cover to cover and study the sectionals. ALL of the sectional questions will come from this book.) BUT it is printed on really crap newspaper grade stock and the copy I had seen better days. BRING A MAGNIFYING GLASS. You are allowed to have it. I mentioned this to the proctor following the exam and she said that she had one for us to use but forgot to mention it. I completed my test in 72 minutes and was pretty sure I had failed. about 40 to 50% of my exam was sectionals. AND they are not exactly the same ones you see in the practice exams. One question asked to examine a small class G airport to see if there were any special details. This one was easy, it had the parachute symbol. 21, 23, 25, and 80 were 4 of the sectionals used on my exam. Another question dealt with load balancing. I had 2 on visual observer. AND this one. "One of your team is scheduled to fly the UAV under your supervision. However, he is hungover from a party the night before, should he be allowed to operate the UAV"? Pretty common sense answer, but one of the answers was "yes, because the 8 hour rule only applies to the RPIC" LOL. Of course, it is a flat "no" answer.Hope this info helps with your exam. good luck.

I passed! Watched this once and Tony's about three times and took practice tests with the Prepware app and also the one at the FAA website where we can take it for study purposes. The already licensed pilots can actually pass it on the spot and get their rating online at no extra cost. Anyway, I strongly suggest clicking the links to the manuals and at least glancing over them. Also, spend some time understanding the different airspace, ceilings, floors, and how to find towers. If you seriously want to become a commercial pilot making money from aerial photography or inspecting buildings, YOU. MUST. UNDERSTAND. THIS. and not blow it off until two years later to re-up the certification. My experience in taking the test was quite a bit trickier than what I watched here and on Tony's channel. The important thing is to digest the info so that when the question is asked 7-10 different ways, you know that you know what you knew you had known. You know? Lol.

I just want to say thank you because your material was a great help to me, along with Tony Northrup’s video. I took the Part 107 exam today and passed with a score of 88. But I have to say the wording and structure of the questions were very different. At one point I felt that the test was designed to make me fail. I was getting angry during the test because some questions were completely from left field. I wish that I had written them down but I used up almost the whole two hours allotted for the exam. The proctor told me she was going to give me a printout of the questions I missed but it was only the codes to a study section. I was also surprised because I thought the sectional charts would be on the computer, like the sample test. Instead I was given a booklet that contained the sectional charts. That tripped me up because now I had to take the time to get acquainted with this material. I also received blank paper, a transparent piece of plastic and two very intimidating aeronautical rulers. I had no idea on how to use theses things. Anyway, I say all this to try and encourage those taking the test to take your advice and study everything. Elevation was repeatedly asked in regards to many things. I also think there was a typo on the exam in regards to Longitude and latitude. The coordinates didn’t match the question and I spent about 15 minutes trying to figure it out. Good luck all. Thanks again.

I appreciate your honesty regarding the "where is the aircraft relative to the runway" questions. Regarding where an aircraft is relative to a runway, I believe you're over-thinking. For example, Cooperstown, where is an aircraft that announces they're on base for runway 31 relative to the runway? Wind direction is irrelevant to the question (and I must say that chart you use is...busy). If they are landing on 31 they will be heading 310 degrees (roughly NW) which matches up with the depiction of the airport on the chart. Left traffic means they just turned left to get onto base and they will turn left again to get onto final. Point your finger in the direction of final; visualize base leg. Where are you? South of the runway (actually SE but that isn't an option so choose the closest). I know this vid is 5 years old but in case someone is watching and needs an explanation. I loved the rest of the content!

Thank you so much for this in-depth breakdown, I took the part 107 today and scored 87%! I watched this video and Tony Northrup's video, I found his first but it worked out great cause what he taught me, you reinforced, many thanks! I stopped by King Schools Drone page and found a 60 question practice test and took some notes on the questions that I missed and used all 4 resources to pass the 107. I recommend to all interested, watch Tony Northrup's video first, take notes, then take sample questions on 3DR, then come back here to review the test and note the questions that you got wrong the first time at 3DR, then wait a few days, take the 3DR test again and you will be blown away by how much you learned. Also stop by King Schools, take their sample test, note the questions wrong, study those, take that practice test again and then schedule your FAA test. This tip can not be ignored, others have told you but READ THE FAA QUESTIONS VERY CAREFULLY AND SLOW! Put the aviators on today, it felt great, not cheesy at all, until I proclaimed "I feel the need...the need, for speed!

1/11/22 -- Just took the Part 107. Passed with an 87%.. This Video is Gold + Tony Northrop and Use Katia's Buzz for the new stuff on flying over people, some of the questions came from this video. exactly. and use the Peletier practice exams as flash cards over n over until you get tired of looking at the material concepts. Not too many questions to trip you up if you watch this video and its explanations. But!!! gunfunandstuff comment on weather is extra gold and insanely helpful.

Just passed my test with an 82 (04/27/2021) Make sure you study the new rules from FAA. Night flying, transponders, etc. Also bring a magnifying glass with a light on it if you don't want to go blind. Lastly DON"T have anything in your pockets, or a hat or a watch. They made me put everything in a bag, including my cough drops.

Bro, you saved me. I watched Tony's video first and schedule the test last month, but I got delayed and couldn't take it until today. I thought I should brush up, so I watched your video. You filled in all the holes with your commentary that got me to a passing grade. The part I had the most trouble with was Safety, even though I have been dealing with Army Aviation for more than 18 years. It's just the way the questions are worded that could lead to one or more best guess. Anyhow, I passed and I wouldn't have if it weren't for your commentary, Thank you!

Watched this, Gary Glenn's and Tony Northrup's videos once each and took notes on all of them. Then I read a whole bunch of FAA publications as recommended by the proctor at the exam location. I took the exam today and bookmarked nothing, choosing to just take my time with each question. This resulted in 3 wrong out of 60 questions and a score of 95. Thanks for making this video, it's great!

Thank you for the video! i just got done with my UAG small and passed with an 82%! I only used this video along with some of the study information form the FAA. I would say about 40-60% of the test questions were either the same information and locations as presented here or the same only worded differently. I'm dyslexic so, as you mention in the video, it can be very tricky with the way they word these questions even if you know the information by heart. Great video!!!

I think the Terrain elevation question at 1:53 answer comes from the color key code (2000-3000') for the low (2000') and the with the MEFs (2800) for the area - The MEFs are calculated at 300' above the highest terrain level making the actual terrain at 2500'
