You just put them in a plastic crate and visit them every once in a while. After a few weeks they get used to you and stop freaking out over everything.

I am totally building one of these! I love this cute style of trap. I thought it looked a little new. A good way to make wooden live catch traps mouse poop proof is to paint the floor and trigger pad with a clear varnish. Then everything wipes right off with a little water.

You know what I like most about your videos Shawn? How it's kind of like an adventure with new goals we always have on the horizon. I remember when you had that one trap ruining rat hanging around that you really wanted to kill and it took like a month to get him. Then it was capturing Big Mama and Big Papa. Now it's capturing Bigger Mama and the skunk. It's all really neat stuff!

They literally have no control over their bowels or urethra, unlike other rodents which use a midden, mice and rats are constantly peeing and pooping wherever they go.

I love the concept of this trap! (Maybe replace the floor with the same material as the walls?) I'd also make the trigger pad smaller and move it further away from the valve by extending the horizontal wire part of the trigger. Is there anything to prevent the mice from triggering the vale from the top?

Dave L. and I grew up and went to school together. I have several of his traps. The skunk trap is the best I have ever used. I have never had a spray from a skunk in his trap. Have caught probably 30+ in that trap. He does a great job of getting rid of bats in houses also..

Shawn, did you see the Mythbusters episode where they were testing something about skunks? They caught a skunk in a regular mesh live trap, and intended to let it spray them. Unfortunately, for the episode, they could not get the skunk to spray. They tried scaring it, themselves, and with a dog, if I remember correctly, but the thing never would spray. They ended up having to use collected skunk juice.

The Little Valve trap seems designed to catch mice by the tail. It’s a different valve from what I was expecting. This valve is live a large, wooden version of an automobile cylinder valve.

That's a cute design, although I think it needs to be a little longer to avoid dropping the valve on the mouse. If I deployed that around here, though, I suspect the weightlifter squirrel would take it away and tear it to pieces. You know those "squirrel-proof" mesh cubes with the little oval windows in them for feeding small birds? I had one of them pegged down with four tent pegs, and he did bicep curls with the thing until he had pulled the pegs far enough to have room to shake it up and down to spill the food out the far side. I have to put breezeblocks on things here.

House mouse, that sounds hilarious 😂😂😂😂 not the best idea since the valve can fall on the mouse and they might be able to escape, but perhaps the same thing but with the trip platform moved down a little bit to add a delay on the door closing would work out a bit better
