I’m not gonna lie. I absolutely love what they did for this episode. I always felt like the show was more about the personal relationships of the people in black ink & less about the tattooing so episodes like this one are really essential. You can also tell who’s in it for the clout, the publicity and/or who just sees the shop as just a hang out & who actually is dedicated to what they do but this episode was very collaborative & it showcased the complexity of tattooing as well. We need more of this.

When I got my tattoo, I called all the shops to ask if they had experience with dark brown skin. The question was ignored , I then spoke to man that said he had experience and explained ink colors. This was over 20 years ago when Black people did not get tattoos like they do now

i’m dark with red butterflies on my leg. as someone who has a lot of body art, part of the experience is picking a skilled artist for the look you want. i won’t go to anyone else unless they give me better quality than my first tattoo and I was very impressed my first go round. it’s really not the skin. If a painting doesn’t look right you don’t blame the canvas. they need to go to different tattoo artists, not abandon the idea of color.

My ex is a tattoo artist. One thing he speaks about colouring on different pigments. When it comes to high melanated skin, you have to watch which colours you utilize. White fades quickly and doesn't last. Bae, is correct in informing her client and utilizing her staff for better information.

Melanated beautiful skintone certain colors are a no no they soak right in the skin tone. During healing process even my skintone artist say certain colors soak into the skin. I've seen artists not know about the difference in skin tones or textures having a different look at the end, just not knowing cause they haven't worked on darker skin, or wrinkled or scarred skin texture.... like a hair stylist you should be able to work on all types before getting licensed.... But I've also seen other artists know the difference, but lie & try to say it's going to work, the inks will look the same as on super pale skin, just to get the bag, not realizing having to give refunds loses the bag, duh! Just cause you got it doesn't mean you can keep it if it's wrong! I appreciate the honesty & maintenance of expectations! I hated seeing people be told it's going to be like this but end up like that.... I've also seen an artist lie about what color to use & instead of explaining, used colors not discussed so the client was very upset rather than knowing what it would be like start to finish....
