I "gravitated" to your channel because your very interesting person and you have so much knowledge of this subject, more than me and I'm 52 been buying LPs since 1984! Keep up the good work kid, it's nice to see young people in this hobby and so knowledgeable! It's you young folks who's going to keep it going long after us old fogies pass away!

Hey Michael, congrats on 10k. Even though I don't upload videos to KZbin, I thought I'd answer the questions anyway. Just for the fun of it. 🙂 *Question 1 - Show a Classical record, if you don’t have a classical record, show something with an orchestral arrangement.* Oh boy, it's hard to limit myself on this one…I’m gonna list a couple of records I like Maurice Ravel - Daphnis and Chloe (Charles Munch, Analogue Productions LSC 1893) Prokofiev: Lieutenant Kije/Stravinsky: Song of the Nightingale (Fritz Reiner, Analogue Productions LSC 2150) Georg Solti - Venice (Analogue Productions LSC 2313) Gounod: Faust Ballet/Bizet: Carmen Suite (Alexander Gibson, Analogue Productions LSC 2449) Jascha Heifetz - Bruch: Scottish Fantasy (Malcolm Sargent, Analogue Productions LSC 2603) Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy - Lieder ohne Worte (Daniel Barenboim, Deutsche Grammophon 2022) Grieg: Peer Gynt (Oivin Fjeldstad, Speakers Corner 009 2012) Sergei Prokofiev - Romeo and Juliet. The complete Ballet (André Previn; Warner Classics 2018) *Question 2 - Show the heaviest sounding album you own.* Actually, I dont’t own many Metal records on vinyl, although I enjoy listening to it. I definitely need to make up some ground there. But what I have are the recent reissues of the first three Slipknot albums. And the second album is the most heaviest of these in my opinion. Answer: Slipknot - Iowa In Terms of classical records that have a Heavy Metal feel to it, I would like to throw in Bela Bartok’s ‘Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta’. (Fritz Reiner, Analogue Productions LSC 2374) Actually, many Metal Artists wish to appear this creepy and scary like Fritz Reiner does on the picture on the backside. 😆 *Question 3 - Show an artist or group you got into primarily because of vinyl/record collecting* That’s quiet easy for me… Kraftwerk. Even though I'm from Germany and like listening to electronic music, I've never really dealt with Kraftwerk. In 2020 their catalog has been re-released on translucent vinyl. (Clear, Blu, Yellow, Red) I first bought ‘Trans Europa Express’ and was pleasantly surprised how fresh this music sounds. So the albums ‘Autobahn’, ‘Radio Aktivität’, ‘Die Mensch-Maschine’ und ‘Computerwelt’ quickly followed. And what can I say… Kraftwerk are legends for a reason. The Reissues of 2020 (Labels: Kling Klang/Parlophone) are top notch - great sound, great packaging. Highly recommended. *Question 4 - Show a foreign and/or non English record, bonus points for an import pressing* Since I live in Germany, I could of course just name a German album now, but that would be too easy. However, I have some albums in my collection that are neither in German nor in English. For instance in Spanish Albums by artists like Rosalía and Lido Pimienta. Turkish by Altin Gün - funky Anatolian Psychedelic Rock. French by Christine and the Queens, Feu! Chatterton and more. But my Pick is a polish Alternative Rock Album by the Band HEY intitled ‘Miłość! Uwaga! Ratunku! Pomocy!’ on white Vinyl. (Label: Antena Krzyku) Great Album with glimpses of Post Rock, Electronic and Avantgarde. Nice packaging. And it can actually be called an import because I ordered it from an online shop in Poland. 😉 *Question 5 - Show a CD, Tape, Digital download of an album that needs to be pressed on vinyl* I've looked through my CD collection and haven't really found an album that hasn't been released on vinyl at least once. So I got to cheat a little bit here. I'll take an album that came out on vinyl when it was first released in 1998 and hasn't since. (according to Discogs at least) A Tribe called Quest - The Love Movement All other ATCQ albums have been reissued multiple times on vinyl. But why not this album? *Question 6 - Letter to the Editor* I just stumbled across your channel this spring. The reason was that I only recently became more interested in classical music. That's how I came across your video ‘25 records to start a classical music collection’ and liked it a lot. Some suggestions from this video have already made it into my collection, like ‘The Reiner Sound’, ‘Scheherezade’, ‘La Mer’, Elgar’s Cello Concerto and ‘The Four Season’ by Interpreti Veneziani. However my favorite video on your channel is “10 favorite orchestral recordings (of works I’ve performed)’ because of how you combine your personal experiences performing this pieces with a short profound review of the record and personal stories like the ‘spitting episode’ or when all the lights went out while performing 'Götterdämmerung'. 😄I'd really like to see a video of that performance. Also, the video drew my attention to some very interesting pieces, such ‘Symphonies for wind instruments’ by Stravinsky, ‘The Miraculous Mandarin’ by Bartok oder ‘An Alpine Symphony’ by Richard Strauss that I never heard about before. Actually, I'll attend the latter in a concert hall nearby in two weeks time because of this Video. 😎In fact, it will be the first time that I will attend a classical concert at all. Would be great if you could upload similar videos in the future. For example about recordings of pieces that you would like to play. Or about recordings of chamber music that you’ve played. Or just an update of said video. Anyway…keep up the good work. See you at 20,000 Greetings from Germany, Thomas @poetryonplastic

Sorry to misuse this option to post, which is still missing on thetrackingangle. Your Mahler set review there is fantastic! You just should have bought the Analogphonic set of the same at the time, mastered around 2014 from Kevin Gray and partly already the Emilberliner staff. It has none of your described problems of the current and the 2016 reissues and sounds really good, much better than original LP’s and CD’s.

What an awesome contest, these are some great questions that will get people thinking and maybe get people to explore music out of their comfort zone. I have a question about #5 though, how would you like to see a digital download displayed on the video. I'll be posting a video sometime hopefully during the week.

I listened to creation du monde a while back, very heavy Stockhausen vibes! I do know about those remix albums Buck-tick have, but I don't have any. If you get the chance to listen to one of their normal songs, I highly recommend Dress (the music video is pretty artsy as well).

I wish you would talk about Japanese vinyl sometime. Collectable but utterly lacking in bass. Compare US and Japanese Beatles or Blue Note releases. Meanwhile, extra points for including Shostakovich
@poetryonplastic2 жыл бұрын
Maybe some Japanese pressing of US and UK rock albums are lacking in bass, but domestic Japanese albums are definitely not. I have tons of 70s and 80s domestic Japanese albums recorded and cut in Japan that sound fantastic with excellent bass.
