You can say a lot about The Spiffing Brit, he's exceptionally good at putting his friends in the compromising situations he sets up. Poor PotatoMcWhiskey were jebaited into doing this, but he held up his contractual obligations like someone held over a barrel and something about a sharp object... It's almost like the "contest" was set up and guided into it's conclusion...
@jackielinde7568
@jackielinde7568 Жыл бұрын
There was a contest. It may have been rigged. It's like that game of "Who can hit the softest" you used to play with your big brother. You keep winning and it feels like you're just a sore winner.
@kholdanstaalstorm6881
@kholdanstaalstorm6881 Жыл бұрын
@@jackielinde7568 The contest was between a pro player, one that knew something about the game, one that played it for the first time and The Spiffing Brit that said he wasn't really playing. It was kinda inevitable what the outcome would be, Spiff just needed to poke at one or both of the others to steer it in a desired direction. The war against PotatoMcWhiskey was mostly to give intrigue and suspense to the game. It was a friendly game amongst friends, but PotatoMcWhiskey had to be royally screwed by the game itself for not prevailing. Haven't heard about "who can hit the softest", closest thing I can think about is "who can get the closest to the others without touching" because there usually was a don't hit rule wherever I visited. You lost when you literally lost it and got irritated on the others. Those who didn't care about their personal space were quickly out because they didn't react. There was some epic meltdowns when someone were almost poked for a long time.
@jackielinde7568
@jackielinde7568 Жыл бұрын
@@kholdanstaalstorm6881 You missed the humor in my joke. But then again, I don't think you had an older sibling who ever played the "Hit the softest game" with you. Also, I didn't lose anything. I don't know where you got the emotion you clearly (and incorrectly) seemed to feel I had. I was mostly snickering about the whole situation because it was funny. Then again, I'm an older brother who has played the "Hit the Softest" game with their younger siblings. It's great fun right up to the point they figure out the game (and hit puberty at the same time). Finally, "sore winner" in reference to the "Hit the Softest" game is a play on words and a double entendre.

Y’know, this game actually looks like it had potential to be good from the very limited bits of it we saw in this video. A space combat game from Firaxis sounds like a great game. It does seem a bit half baked from what was shown in this video though, and I’d imagine it could get tedious.

Pity that Civ 4's space 4x mode knocks the socks of this game, add in the modded version and you'll go: Starships? No, I'm having fun here. That was just an added feature to Civ 4 and so much better, even though it came out well before Starships.

@@The_Funguseater Civ 4 still is, dated but good. I do nostalgia trips into Civ 3, SMAC and MOO 1 & 2 when the itch needs scratching. I even try to get Civ:BE to behave, using tons of mods and fixes. But it still have a lot of gremlins and it never breaks the same way consistently. Looking beyond the hype and the uproar, there's a good fundation for a 4x sci-fi game there, it just wasn't completed. All Civ games from the start of digital distribution needed a bunch of DLC's to reach their full potential, Civ:BE never reached anywhere near that level of care.

I played this game when it came out, and being severely depressed at the time, actually quite enjoyed its low stakes, slow gameplay. It was uncomplicated and I saw numbers go up, what more could you ask for? Also the tie-in with Beyond Earth were a fun touch. P.S I don't remember how, but you could turn your ships invisible and just cheese the game thoroughly with that.

Star Wars is stuck with a paradox where the stories are traditionally about dualistic battles between good and evil, but Jedi philosophy (and the nature of the Force) is pretty clearly inspired by Buddhism and Taoism, which are fundamentally non-dualistic. If Jedi were portrayed consistently with their real-world inspirations "Light" and "Dark" would be better understood as "Harmonious" and "Unharmonious" or "Healthy" and "Harmful". Anakin hit the nail on the head in episode 2 when he said Jedi are encouraged to love (and is a teaching straight out of Buddhism), but ignored the lesson when he made his love conditional. The concept of grey Jedi usually feels like a misunderstanding of this, an effort to critique a dualistic morality based on an assumption that the force itself is binary, which is not helped by the language used. By a lot of definitions I see of grey Jedi, Obi-wan would qualify: he has close friendships; he displays happiness, anger, and fear; he even has someone he loves romantically, and yet also is considered a paragon among Jedi. I think a great portrayal of "grey" without undermining the basic principles of the Force is Jolee Bindo, who was capable of recognizing the difference between Jedi teachings and the Jedi order and abandoned the latter when it was clear it wasn't living up to the former. Light/harmony/health was still desirable, but a different way was needed to find it. Yes I have thought about this all way too much, so thanks for giving me an excuse to talk about it!
