The reason it wasn’t overturned is because PJ still had control of the ball and was in his upward shooting motion when shai made contact with the arm, if the ball had been released prior to the contact it would have been overturned.

Yeah, they addressed this during the game. You can get all ball but if the guy doesn't let go of the ball and then you wack him on the arm before he lets go...it's a foul.

We all know how Dallas has historically missed out on great centers. Mavs fans should be thrilled that they drafted Lively, an awesome center with all-star potential, he's for sure been a top 5 rookie this year

He needs so much more work on his offense, he's being left wide open so many times and he doesn't shoot in those moments. At one moment in this series, he tried a not so much contested baby hook with a smaller defender and it was almost an airball. Great rim runner, lob threat and rim protector with a high motor already, but as of now he reminds me a bit of Tyson Chandler. As of now, I see a solid contributor for years to come, but not an All-Star.
@TrueGuardify

@@mentalmadness2192 I agree with everything although he's still a rookie at the end of the day. Give him an offseason to work on his interior game. By the end of his rookie contract we'll have a better idea of what he'll be but even reaching "Tyson Chandler" level would be amazing for the Mavs, guy was a DPOY.

@@mentalmadness2192 -- Agree. Tyson Chanderl was a 10-10 kind of guy with excellent defense. If Lively ends up being 15-10-1-1, I think that's a win. 20-12-2-1.5? That's gravy. And 25-12-2-1.5, that's heart clogging gravy.

Did people not see that even if there was no foul, the Mavs caught the ball & IMMEDIATELY put it into the basket? Also, OKC got a FREE EXTRA POSSESSION late in the 4th quarter on an awful out of bounds call! The Thunder player shot it and it hit the backboard, no Mavs player touching it, and it went out. The refs called it out on the Mavs! Even the announcers pointed out how bad it was, but the Mavs were out of timeouts.

The shot didn't get released until the foul occurred which is why there was still a foul. Also, Lively got called for a moving screen which ended Mavs posession, then Dort commited the same moving screen but it was called on Mavs which gave OKC a free throw and the ball instead of the Mavs having another possession in the plays directly before this. There were bad calls on both sides all game but the Mavs definitely got the worse end of the game not being called the same for each team.

I hardly care as I'm in L.A., buuut it looked awfully fishy As if "blocking a shot" isn't blocking a shot. Watch closely how the ref notices the foul and then doesn’t blow the whistle until he looks over and sees Kyrie is there for the putback. The logic is that it’s better to roll the dice on PJ’s FTs than give Kyrie the 2 automatic points. Daigneault just made a mistake challenging the play. He could’ve called the timeout and in the worst of worst cases, Mavs only would’ve been up by 2 and OKC would’ve had the ball at half court

That is what happened (as slo mo showed), and what they said. It had happened the other way on a Luka shot, where he got the shot off and then there was the contact on his arm (ruled incidental), but after the ball left his hand. So no foul. But in this case, the shot wasn't off his hand, so the contact to the elbow affected the shot.

There was nothing controversial about that call. They explained the rule clearly and you obviously missed it. When Shai hit PJ in the arm he hasn’t released the shot yet, thus IT IS a foul by the book. Had Shai hit the ball after PJ release it and then got him in the arm then it is deemed incidental. It was all explained in the broadcast and you were clearly not paying attention.

I see no problem with the outcome. OKC was the least likely to win it all out of the 4 remaining West teams. They beat the injured pelicans and struggled againts a hobbled Luka. The refs even allowed them to mug Luka the entire series. They should not complain about officiating cause not only was it in their favor, but their best player relies on initiating contact to live on the line.

My issue is that I kinda get why he is constantly complaining. I mean Dort was all but wrestling him on almost every possession, grabbing, tripping, shoving, etc. just to then flop at EVERY opportunity he has on both defense and offense if there is minimal resistence/contact by a Mavs player. Utterly disgraceful. Glad that didn't work out for him.

Fell asleep before the halftime of this game, but am okay with it as tonight's is more important. Rooting for Nuggets, but expecting the winner to go all the way to the title. And I agree that Dallas should be praying for a Denver series if they hope to go beyond the Conference Finals.

Also, there's an alternate timeline where Dallas doesn't trade cason Wallace and bertans to OKC for lively and TPE. I firmly believe in that timeline OKC rolls all the way to the title. Chet 4 lively 5? Sheesh.

Why would that play(faul) at the end be series deciding? Take faul away, and you still get a basket from Kyrie with less time on the clock... The whole game was officiated so badly, mostly against Mavs... But great game averall 👌👌

I'll say this as a Mavs fan when it comes to Luka talking to the refs. I'm half and half. Yeah, Luka should just shut up and focus on the game because the refs aren't going to help. If anything, they'll probably make it worse for annoying them so much. But i get why Luka gets frustrated because he clearly gets hacked so much, idk if it's because he's bigger he's supposed to just take the hits, but like, cmon refs be fair! Lu Dort was literally at times going at Luka knees like a linebacker, and that wasn't brought up randomly because he literally was playing like one. There's another video where Dort is clearly kicking up his leg between Lively Knees, which imo only plausible reason as for why he did that is he tried trip Luka to screw up the possession. Regardless of who the players are, that's still a reckless play because why are you kicking your leg in between someone's knees??? That's dangerous for athletes because knee injuries can cost them their entire careers I say, you can get frustrated with Luka's complaining, but you can't get mad at it because it's justified.

Refs have to let guys play. Unless they're blatant fouls or playing football out there, let them play in those moments

As a Dallas Fan, I WAS hoping for Denver, both because they‘re far more likable, and because I fear for Luka‘s health with the tough-to-borderline dirty defense of the Wolves. Other than the Wolves being a really strong team with a lot of match-up problems, the question on my mind is IF the 50-60% of Luka Doncic we‘re seeing right now are going to be enough. If he were at 90-100%, I‘d feel very confident, but he‘s just not and is playing so hobbled and getting into his head that this may just be a little too much. That being said: Minnesota may have the best defense, but right now, Dallas is right up with them and i don‘t think they‘ve experienced anything close to that from Denver, either. We‘ll see what happens. Either way, best playoffs in many many many years.

The Mavericks weren't "rattled" by Dort and em, Luka had 3 triple doubles in a row to close out the series. In addition, the Thunder had the refs to their advantage for the series, right before the foul on PJ we had a phantom offensive foul on DLive and the ball clearly went out of bounds off the Thunder and it was still given back to them. You don't know ball

Lively so clearly has a winners mentality. He’s so young and already knows what his role and place is on this team and they have rewarded him for it, rightfully. If he continues like this and they pay him accordingly we’re looking at a generational talent Edit: Minnesota has the answer to every trick Dallas has and we didnt win against them at all in the regular season, Jokic and Luka going head to head would be talked about for years

Its been a while since I've been excited about a team other than teh Lakers but I love this team, their energy, Anthony Edwards is an amazing young leader, I love how he plays, he leads, I hope they make it to the Finals and I think they have a real shot if the refs let them defend !

Everyone thought the Kings were going places. Look how that went. You got to make most of the opportunities. If he still got the shot off, swallow the whistle ref. What happened to those days where the refs didn't bail players out in the last minute of the game? That deep OKC team is going to want to get paid. They're all young. The reason the Warriors were able to do what that they did was that team friendly deal Steph had. They may find themselves in a Harden situation again.
