It's a blessing when psychology and Orthodox Christianity are aligned. It's like Heaven gives us a new revelation.

The OCA bishop of Alaska, Alexis, was an Athonite monk with a background in psychology. He wrote a book a few years ago comparing behavioral psych with the sayings of the desert fathers. Didn't read it but looks interesting. Those old monks understood people, understood themselves. Alexis Trader is the author. His discipline is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or something like that. Forgot the title of the book.

We need to get rid of most Worldly Psychology. I was a PhD clinical psychologist for 25 years. I couldn’t get through Bishop Alexeis book, though I admire him immensely. God is cleansing me completely from World Psychology and plunging me exclusively into the Church Fathers and desert Fathers and other monastic saints who ARE THE psychologists I have been shown to follow.

One of the times that I tried to see the Iveron icon I actually missed it - I had arrived too late. I was disappointed, of course. I was given a small piece of cotton that I was told had absorbed some of its myrrh, but even that seemed totally dry, with no scent. I took it home and placed it in a tiny container. Then a couple of days later, I decided on a whim to just look at the cotton again. This time, when I opened the container, my entire room was flooded with the powerful fragrance of the myrrh! I could smell it like that for a few days.

The guest’s wife is very blessed, I’m glad his wife has never been spoken to in a harsh manner, I’m not sure if that’s typical.
