Two of my favourite booktubers together for a chat! I loved watching this! I echo Philip's sentiments, Petrik. Thank you so much for all the wonderful things you do for the writing community and the self-published writing community in particular. I saw a post by you in a poll you were taking where you noted you felt that your channel was not doing as well as you'd like. I beg you to realize that your channel is one of THE most popular on booktube, without question. We all look to you for fabulous, insightful, exemplary content, and we hope you keep your channel going for many many more years to come. Doing well is all relative of course, but I strongly believe most booktubers would do anything to have your respect in the community, reach, influence, subscriber count, and many of the measures used to assess '"success". As for Philip, all I can say is, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy, to have a successful book launch that everyone in the community is talking about. No one has any doubt that Philip's books will be phenomenal, like the man himself. I can't wait to start on the Way of Edan tomorrow! All the best!

What an incredible interview, Petrik! Honestly, what did we do to deserve Dr. Fantasy?! He is just the best. I am so so so excited for this entire trilogy, especially after hearing how much time, effort, care and love has gone into the creation of this story. And really happy to hear that Philip is feeling so great about his choice to self-publish, the indie community is only getting better and better!! Thanks for sharing this wonderful conversation, you guys were a delight to listen to 🤩

I have now read (and enjoyed!) Way and Prophet of Edan and finally remembered to watch this interview. It is very good and has a lot of interesting things in it! I didn't know about the chinese Sanderson covers either! They look amazing. It was very interesting to hear about how much thought and actual real world, historical influences went into the world and characters of these books. I didn't even think about the covers before, but it makes total sense, hearing it from Philip . And I am especially glad that you asked about the Etymology of things. Because that is something that I thought about a lot while reading. There is one language in there, I think it was from the tribes that come into the second book ... as a native German speaker I could kinda understand them? That was a surprise, but it makes sense if their language is derived from the influences Philip named. I was fascinated by that.
@PetrikLeo

Glad you found this video useful. I still need to read The Prophet of Edan but I highly enjoyed The Way of Edan! I have a fascination with etymology haha. I think that's a big part to why Babel by R.F. Kuang worked for me, too. Also, yes, we need more stained glass cover art like The Edan trilogy and Sanderson's Chinese cover art! :D

"If I can add a little bit of beauty to someone's life, I'll feel wonderful." Gosh, if that doesn't sum up the ultimate aspiration of a storyteller, I don't know what does. I always say that if I can leave a reader thinking and feeling after "The End," I've done my job. I just finished reading The Way of Edan late last night, and your conversation is a delightful enhancement of how I've been left thinking and feeling upon closing the book (er, shutting off my Kindle). Thanks to you both! I also have to echo what Philip and others here are saying--what you do is really vital and very much appreciated, Petrik. Here's to the power of story!

@@PetrikLeo Sorry Petrik, I should have formulated this clearer. What I ment is that I wanted Philip to have a guest presenter on DDF to interview him. A DDF episode with Philip Chase as the guest so to say. But now that you did your interview, it was so good that this is not necessary any more. (I've already been on DDF. You easily find the episode. Philip turned me into a pink unicorn for the thumbnail.🤣)

Wonderful conversation! Petrik, I didn’t know you were Buddhist! That’s so neat! I’m similar to Philip in that I am inspired by the philosophy and meditative practice of the religion. Although it’s taken a long time for The Way of Edan to come to fruition with unsuccessful traditional publication attempts, this turns out to be a wonderful time to self-publish a book!

Love that Philip has used 'caer' meaning fortress in Welsh. I live very near to a place called Caerleon in Wales which is an old Roman fortress. Caerleon is also thought to be one of the possible locations of Camelot which is so cool.

Just started reading and am loving the Welsh nods. I grew up in Caerleon surrounded by so many awesome place names Caerleon was formerly one of 4 Roman cities, and called Isca. It still has the remains of an amphitheatre, barracks, Roman baths. It also has part of the village still encircled with castle walls from a later fort. Other parts of the village built 1200-1500s are considered young in comparison 😊 Lovely interview especially learning more about all the names and the stories behind this story❤

a trilogy into a standalone, it reminds me of first law, that's the only other series I've read that did something like that, a trilogy that set the foundations of the world, and standalones to expand on those foundations, followed up by another trilogy, a sort of return to where the original trilogy left off.

I ordered it yesterday, I think this will be the first self published book I'll read (but I also ordered Sword of Kaigan along with it - so long as I'm getting fairly safe bets for self-pub lol), it's certainly the most exciting "youtuber book" I've been offered. I love that Philip felt he had to take Tolkien's route to storytelling, but I'm happy when a new author respects the classical origins of fantasy. BTW Petrik, how do you spell the name of that stained glass fantasy artist you mentioned?
