Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

When I’m spraying atrazine day after day I usually clean all my screens about every 3 days. Also run water through sprayer whenever at all possible like you already mentioned. Can confirm you have the same logic as me people have said I can get away with a bigger strainer without plugging tips but I’d much rather clean screens every 3 days then plug nozzles, especially with a rear mounted boom

I have been on the lawn care business for 17 years,mainly fertilization & weed control, and find the herbicide discussions interesting. Most of the lawn care products were developed in the agriculture industry before they reached us. We are a very small user of herbicides compared to the ag industry. I have done experiments with herbicides to see the effectiveness before a rain. I have sprayed 30 minutes before a 1/2 inch rain and have had excellent weed control. I used a spreader sticker minutes before a 1/4 rain and had excellent weed control. I feel if the plant is green and growing it absorbs the herbicide pretty quickly. If it is hot and dry the herbicide might crystallize on the surface and then be absorbed when moisture hits the plant at night. I don’t think that little rain you received will have any effect on the herbicide effectiveness, I could be wrong but I do not think so.

@mungogerryjnr
@mungogerryjnr Жыл бұрын
@@aTrippyFarmer Actually just took the time to re-educate myself It was a wetter agent used more as a precaution and effective “hit” then rain washing. Basically a faster uptake meaning if rained on the damage was done,rather then stopping rain washing off. Still,nothing is as effective as a good start to the morning before wind,which generally brings rain quicker. I changed from spraying to grass harvesting,didn’t change the rain problem 🤷‍♂️ Possibly made it worse 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ These days my biggest rain hassle is having to turn on me wipers!

You would be correct Andy. The higher the pressure the smaller the droplets and better coverage. Same principal applies to spraying fungicide. It’s why a plane works better then a ground rig. Plane volatilizes the droplets better because of speed and pressure. Contact killers usually only need an hour for the plant to absorb the chemical. Every day clean your strainers. Doesn’t take but a minute and saves a lot of problems. Even on your spray trailer. Check it.
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer Жыл бұрын
My goal with fungicide, if we even spray it this year, is to run smaller nozzle and apply high pressure. My tanker doesn't have any Y-Strainers plumbed in. All of that stuff goes straight to the sprayer!!!
@peteparker7396
@peteparker7396 Жыл бұрын
@@aTrippyFarmer I will tell you this, I have done strip tests (ask Helena to get you some) with a ground rig verses a plane spraying fungicide. Plane wins by a lot every time. And with the price of fungicide and the benefits yield wise in my area it’s more cost effective to pay the plane. You are getting at times 60% better results then a ground rig. I did these trials over a three year period on irrigated ground to make it even. Every time the plane won. It wasn’t even close.
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer Жыл бұрын
@@peteparker7396 I don’t doubt your data, but I’ve talked to people that have ran long-term disease modeling programs with on-ground application data. They claim that the ground rig is the best without a doubt, followed by a drone, then aerial applications.
