In this video I will be working on the John Deere 7000 Corn Planter that I purchased last fall. I will be greasing and lubing the planter. Along with swapping out meters and replacing a few parts. Once we are done in the shop we use the International 1066 tractor and take it out to the field for a test. Thank you all for watching! We hope you are having a wonderful spring!

Nice video, just a suggestion but you need to raise the front of the planter up, normally this can be done by flipping the tractor draw bar but it looks like your tractor as a straight drawbar. When your in the field planting the row units need to run level, right now they are running downhill or noise diving. This will change your seed depth and decrease your pressure on the closing wheels. It also caused your row cleaner to plow. I highly recommend finding a way to raise the front up.

Great video guys. I have a 6 row 7000 just like yours. Was hilarious watching you trying to get it to lower.😁 They are good, simple planters once you get to know them. Couldn't tell by the video, but if you don't know the metal pieces that lock the markers up are turned 180 degrees when you go to plant. Gives the marker something springy to hit up against when you raise the planter. I've planted before with only 3 drive chains and seemed to work fine. I always "plant" a little in the driveway where I can find the seeds to check my population accurately. You don't have to lower the planter all the way. Top planting speed is about 5 mph. Sloan express is a company that sells after market parts, and they sell pretty much every part for that planter. Cheaper alternative to buying genuine Deere parts, and I've had good luck with their stuff. I'm not a mechanical expert, but I would be happy to answer any questions you have if I can. Look me up on FB and pm me if needed. Here in southern Illinois almost all fieldwork is done and baled our first cutting of alfalfa yesterday. Hoping for a little rain as it's been dry here. Good luck!

Make sure you put moth balls and mouse poison in the main frame behind the marker hinge. Mice love to nest in the main frame and it can mess up the marker actuator.

I remember those International hydraulic tips well. I owned a 966 blackstripe. Didn't take me too long to switch them to pioneer tips. If it were me, I would replace that worn pully you found in that box. One less thing to go wrong when it's go time.

You may want to check the planter for level put it down pull ahead some and make sure the units are running level if they aren’t you may need to raise the hitch it looks like it is nosing down that may also be why the row cleaners are being so aggressive

Pull the seed tubes and check for wear. If there wore replace them or your seed will be on top of the ground. And check that the seed tube guards are in place and not wore past the seed tube. I totally rebuilt my 7000 2 years ago. Cost some money but works as good as a new one!

Make sure the chains that drive the seed meters are nice and limber because if any of links are seized it can cause a skip. Also the seed belts in all the meters, make sure they are in good condition. Also if you ever take the fertilizer augers out, be damn sure you put them back exactly how they were or you'll get agitated at the highest level.

In your manual on the page that has the settings for the population it will tell you how fast to drive according to your population,to slow is as detrimental as to fast, some farmers at the end of the season take all the chains off and store them in a pail of diesel fuel or oil, Shoup sells the chains precut at a reasonable price
@guydaubenspeck9206
@guydaubenspeck9206 Жыл бұрын
If you have that planter put together correctly, what's the correct style of parts. And not necessarily direct from John Deere. I think I mentioned before when you bought it to get in touch with shoup manufacturing. They have good prices on aftermarket parts that are authentic to the deer and will work fine on your planter. iLearn 15 years ago my neighbor who is a well-known used equipment guy in our area rebuild my 7000,, 4 row. Don't do it halfway job with halfway parts put it together right and it won't let you down at planting time.

Use plenty of graphite in your seed, Fleet farm is about the cheapest. Graphite is what keeps your finger units from wearing too much however will build up under finger assembly. Will help keep seed belt pliable also. The little brush inside wears out more than anything else. It looked like the planter was not level front to low,simple clevis adjustment. If you have adjustment in the knife behind fertilizer disk get it as close to the disk as possible, in no till it will save plugging. Your right about row cleaners to deep,leveling planter will help. Other than that you got it figured out, very nice planter. Enjoy the videos.

Set population for the corn you are planting. Last year I planted my Reids Yellow Dent (Open Pollinated Heirloom) at 32k population and it was much too tight (30in rows at 6.3in seed spacing) Perfect for the hybrid popcorn. This year I'm dropping back to 9.3in spacing for a population around 22k-24k. Most of the older heirloom corn want 8-12in spacing. I had stalks reach nearly fourteen feet tall, ears were over seven feet off the ground (best ears had around 36 rows and 40+ kernels per row). This year I'm going with Blue/Purple/Red heirloom varieties to do a landrace of those top protein corn varieties (nearly 15% -- does great for feed when typical hybrid-gmo is only 3%). If you can't find any land to rent, there's likely a strip of lawn by the house or garage that can grow some corn.

Are your row cleanes pinned fast? I would let them float and put the pin in the hole at the lowest you want them to go, so above that they float, we ran Yetters like that, never pinned them fast, rocks would eat them to start with no give. That looks like it is a strip tiller..............As someone else said, level it too.

I always opened the finger pickup units and turned them manually to be sure there aren't any broken fingers or springs and that the fingers are lifting and closing on the seed as they are supposed to be. Also tension on that center nut is important and you should use a feeler gauge to set the clearance under the finger holder and the backing plate. I would recommend every 100 row acres you take the units to some shop with a test stand to calibrate the units and suggest any parts that need replaced. You will be amazed at the little problems that will throw the accuracy of the planter off.

@@brandonhoad9033 That varies by the type of seed treatment you use, but they should be replaced on that 100 row acre inspection. 600 acres on a six row planter.

We had a IH 1086 hooked up to a 7000 planter for years. Row cleaners don't need to be plowing raise them up a bit. You can run that 66 in Low 4th with the TA ahead while planting around pto rpms. Also stop when you raise and stop when you lower the planter that will keep the drive chains on. Good luck!
