A cosy autumn cruise on my narrowboat

I've been really enjoying autumn along the towpath this year - I think it's probably the most beautiful time of year to see England's canals.
In this video you can see me continuing my journey along the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal.

My parents live two minutes walk from their local canal in the peak district and it looks just like your canal (don't all canals look the same?!), so I always feel a little bit homesick when watching your videos.... but I will be seeing them at Christmas and I absolutely can't wait!!! Looks so cold on the river... today I recovered my gloves from my winter clothes box as I think we will be needing them this week! Great to see you looking well and happy. A lot of canals do look similar to be fair! Are they near the Peak Forest canal? I hope to go up there myself eventually. I’m now wearing my winter clothes - I need to get my mittens out though!

@@bettyonaboat Yes, they are in the part of the Peak Forest canal where it runs close to the River Goyt. It gets cold and snowy in the winter up there though, because of its location relative to the hills. Beautiful scenery on a snowy day though. Mittens are perfect for pushing around snow! :)

I can imagine all the hard work you have to move your boat from one place to another in these canals, from carefully steering your boat, getting in and out from times to times to opening and closing the locks to go through each one of them, until you find a good place to dock your boat. This might sound odd but when I was looking behind me in one of the locks in the video I suddenly thought, “Wow, I’m really high up here.” It had never occurred to me before because the boat rises gradually but there was a massive drop the other side of the lock gates.

Ahh great memories of Penkridge dear, myself and two friends hired a 50ft narrowboat for 1 week we travelled the Cheshire ring, stopping at almost every pub on route, loved the tranquilty of the canals, unfortunately I bought a house instead of a boat later,but wish I bought a boat instead, happy cruising Betty😄
