Lovely wrap up. Makes me jealous that it’s getting so warm here when all I want is cold rainy weather. My fave books this month were Goddess in the Machine by Lora Beth Johnson and Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert.

I agree completely about the Umbrella Academy. I tend to find that as a writer Gerard Way has great ideas, but is not so great with the execution of those ideas. Often characters and concepts that start off really interesting just becomes confusing and disjointed as they go along until it's hard to care. Found the same thing with his Doom Patrol comic as well, sadly. I think that's why I enjoy the Umbrella Academy TV show so much - it takes those cool, crazy ideas, streamlines them into a much more conherant plot, and adds character depth and development (something else that sometimes lacks in Way's comics).

You had me at "dark fairy romance - smut". I probably buy one fiction book per year on average. Last year it was Madeline Miller's Circe. This year it's going to be Rhapsodic (on your recommendation) btw Laura Thalassa is a slightly odd name. 'Thalassa' is the modern Greek word for 'sea.' Excellent video as always Ashleigh. Have a lovely weekend.

I just stated watching yesterday from the mythology collection vid but I love this content. Man you showed me how little I read and inspired me to read more I’m picked up a book right after the video that I watched yesterday. The book was called the kingdom of souls by rena barroom so far so good. I had put it off for 6 months.

As someone who reads a lot of smutty books, it's so interesting to me to see the perceptions of people who don't. Because I'm here like, "Ashleigh, Kingdom of Ash didn't have any sex scenes lol." Granted, I read it in 2018, so I don't remember it that well. I do remember some soft sexy times but not much. If you asked me if that book had a lot of sex, I absolutely would say no. So it's fascinating to me that you came away from it with the impression that there was a lot!
@AFrolicThroughFiction4 жыл бұрын
I would say there’s sex scenes but not smut - Sarah J Maas’ version is more often metaphorical/fade to black/insinuating sex happened rather than explicitly on the page, but it’s defo mentioned a lot in KoA 😅

Ashleigh (hope I spelled your name right): "This book is pure despair!" Me, clutching my fluffy romances and MG books: "Bruhh... no!" I think my favorite book in September was Night Owls by Jenn Bennett. Her stories are light and fluffy and make me so darn happy every time I read a new one!

The umbrella academy TV show is better than the source material simply because it focuses on family dynamics. For the comics is way more about powers and lets just do caos. I enjoyed it when I read it because I had not seen the TV show. When I saw it... I can not reread it again.
