The reason there is more females in the industry is the same reason there is more females' graduating from college these days. Parents often pay for their daughters education while telling their son to go pay for it on their own so there are just 10 to 15 % more female in the education system.

I completely agree! And, I'm a suburban, white male, of privilege. I'm saving this video to play for my 9 year-old granddaughter who so loves all living creatures. She'll adore this! Positive role models; that's the ticket! What this society needs so much more of, from and for. Doesn't even have to be this particular lifestyle pursuit. A positive role model is someone who always does what they say they're going to do - always follows through.
@ORflycaster
@ORflycaster 10 ай бұрын
ABSOLULTELY! She's the real deal. Intelligent, thoughtful, independent and self-sufficient, hard working, confident, tough but naturally feminine, and quite pretty with a little of the green stuff on her cheek. Within the cattle ranching community she's not the exception, but she is (and those like her) the gold standard for what women should be.

@@Thelavendel It's just a demographic. It has nothing to do with having a humanistic view of life, having a pro-social core values, and leading youngsters through actions that are congruent with one's talk. Basically, your question is moot and irrelevant.
@Tea53mk
@Tea53mk 10 ай бұрын
@zizendorf I'm sorry to say this but you're not privileged in any way. Please don't believe that just because of your skin colour you're somewhat more privileged. Studies have shown that the % of minorities finishing University and with that having better paying jobs is much bigger than that of fhe majority white population. You don't owe anyone an apology for being white because you had to climb the ladder just like any other human being out there. So please don't feel like you're privileged. There are a lot of white people from Eastern Europe.. millions who don't have the privilege to go and attend a good school or get a good paying job, it's the same with people of colour, there are a lot of people who struggle and race has nothing to do with it. Its just the way the world has always been. If you look at the past there were African nations who were taking slaves from Europe because economically they were more powerful, not to mention the Mongol empire. So the illusion that only white people have been on power and oppressed other people is really not based on historical facts. People have always oppressed other people regardless of their race and yes racism exists and discrimination exisists till this day, but it goes both ways.

I like her style of moving the cattle, with the shhh, shhh. I remember when I first worked on a ranch, all the guys were hoopin and hollering and whistling and jumping all around, except one guy. I asked him why he doesn't do what everyone else does. He said "Because all that noise and ruckus, increases their stress and makes for a more rowdy situation. Do you see how big their ears are? They can hear you, you don't need to yell and holler. You just need to get a couple going and the rest will follow." She does really well with that.

Agree, much better approach is to be gentle and quiet as you can get away with. Calm cattle are easier to handle. My dad would give us a good talking to if he caught us running cows. He taught us that running cost us weight which was money out of our pocket.

I've seen yahoos get cattle so worked up, they literally bowed a sucker rod, drill stem fence outward, to a point some of the posts creased and older ones literally sheared off (feedlot of course). All because the "cowboys" wanted to "go faster". Well Sir, your "go faster" just cost us half a day, because now we're fixing pens.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Costs are so high, many young people don't want to get into farming or ranching for obvious reasons, the older generation dies and the land is sold, often to developers or the large factory farms. We need to support small farmers and farmers and ranchers in general. I go to farmer's markets when ever I can. For a good reason their products are more expensive than the grocery store and sometimes I have to cut back. I just bought local honey and it's delicious. WE all need to step up. Our food does not come from the grocery store, it comes from people like her. I try to buy from a local butcher whenever possible. I hate the idea of those huge factory farms but....I don't know how to change that. I love her. I think we need to respect the animal whos purpose on this planet is to feed us. They are sentient beings and are a living being and that sacrifice they do for us, the purpose that they fulfill for us, needs to be respected with kindness and care. I really think the world has more methane contributors to worry about other than cow farts.

Well said ridin.. If you are from a city this never gets taught or appreciated on a deep level of experience... even city adults twice my age are half informed and think a manipulated netflix documentary teaches them the full story on farming things, as they sip on sugary soda in the ac in the city for an hour to get 'informed'.

@@dertythegrower thanks man I appreciate that 🙏🏼 its sad that city folks live in a bubble not always there fault but they definitely need better understanding of farm/ ranch living lifestyle, Netflix does not do farming/ ranching any justice.

Peter, Thank you for showing stories of people that live far away and doing super important job for all nation. Noone truly can see what going rural west and what is the live style of all these people. I'm a truck driver OTR and actually been in that area on route 2 NE saw all that little towns along corn fileds and ranches. That area really need community support and more recognition. Farming and country living in very interesting me, your videos with that content help understand what to expect and from to start. Good luck to you!!

As someone who has farmed, has current Nebraska farmers in the family, and who beats up my own 52-year-old bones daily as a public gardener, I salute her grit and relate very much to what she said at 3:35. The ones that are up in those towers in the woods looking for poachers, keeping a watch for fires and everything else they do. Very peaceful. My second favorite would be to work on a ranch. At the end of the long day and after a shower it would be so peaceful sitting out on the porch. No T.V. and no internet. Heck YES.

Another fantastic video Peter. Thank you. It's not an easy life living and working on a ranch. People see all the 4 wheelers, trucks, house size and trailers and think they are loaded with cash profit but when you hear how much feed lease land is, fuel is, shipping is, etc. It all turns into a flat line that just pays the bills and fills the fridge. Thanks for this great series.

Smart, bright, supremely competent. She is not a “cowgirl”. She is a business woman who happens to work with livestock. The interviewer did not do his homework and showed up largely uninformed. Maybe that was by design? She was gracious enough not to put too fine a point on that. There are plenty of intelligent people who are not that smart..She is a great example of someone who is both. I believe her when she says that she has traveled to six of the seven continents and is as comfortable in the city as she is out on the range. Wow! I loved watching this video. Thanks for posting it.

Evidently you don't watch Peter's channel very often. He has been to every part of this country, urban and rural, as well as to many other countries as well. His demeanor and interview style are such that he finds almost instant rapport with subject at hand. He comes to it with an open mind, which is what you seem to perceive as uninformed or not doing homework. He lets the source do the talking and asks the simple yet relevant questions he knows viewers would like to hear. Brilliant. He is, in my own view, the best of his type out there, not leastwise because he is so likable and genuine.

Being a rancher isn’t cheap - equipment isn’t cheap and you need to be a Jack of all trades. It’s a hard life but fulfilling - you work hard everyday. I didn’t grow up on a ranch - we had horses but our neighbors had the cattle. .. winters are brutal in Nebraska too which is hard in the herd as well.
