Hi Kathleen, I really like the large cluster pockets. You're right--the ephemera in the pocket becomes part of the cluster and that is just so fun. But I love all of your wonderful pockets. The one with the modeling paste on it is so elegant and pretty. I need to do that more often. I tend to forget about it. So many techniques; so little time. ha ha. I enjoyed the crafting time with you this evening. Thanks so much for your generosity in sharing your ideas and techniques. It is very inspiring. Sorry you're dealing with the cold weather, too. New subscriber. How does one get started in this craft if one has very limited funds?
@BeAgainBooks3 күн бұрын
@Sequoyah_7 Welcome to the community Sequoyah! This is a really accessible hobby! You need very , very little money to enjoy making a junk journal. Lots of people create the journals entirely from junk and many people add all kinds of other things also - whatever they might collect. Still others make journals that seem very “polished” because they use materials that they have purchased or digital kits that they print and everything matches, etc. It is a wide definition of “junk”. But you really can make great journals using just junk. You will need a couple of tools to start, but even those can be simple or even handmade at first. You start with scissors or a paper trimmer, some glue, a needle and sturdy thread and the rest can be recycled. You will want to collect papers of all kinds and these can be various interpretations of “junk.” Old calendars, paper grocery bags, recycled book pages, recycled junk mail or extra household papers (the remaining papers from a half-used journal, or school tablet, for instance) My husband gave me twenty years of his old desk calendars when he retired. I look in the office section of the thrift stores and find great papers there all the time. I also look for old music books and old art books in the thrift stores, as well. There is paper everywhere, actually, when you know what to look for - giveaway magazines from the library, the recycle bin from the office, your own junk mail, gift bags and packaging of all kinds. My best source for collecting are my friends who are often getting rid of old papers as they reduce their file cabinets or bookshelves. When people know what you are doing, they see you as a place to check as they get rid of the things they no longer want to save. I got a whole 50 year collection of post cards and greeting cards from one of my friends - for free, naturally. Adding supplies, such as art mediums and supplies, can be a little more pricey in many cases, but the Dollar Tree has a pretty big craft section and Walmart also has a lot of accessible art supplies. Things like watercolors and craft paint, or stencils, etc. Walmart even has some reasonably priced designer decorative paper to mix into the recycled papers if you wish. I have a couple of playlists on this channel that might help you, with videos specifically using junk papers and affordable supplies. Maybe there will be some inspiration and more specific instructions in these play lists. Making a Junky Junk Journal - “kzbin.info/aero/PLgqCtfI_g_9dlPtEowtGJp7KhW1u9aFfK&si=70hOd6zXTAfmYXut Affordable supplies - kzbin.info/aero/PLgqCtfI_g_9cr9BnkFxONifRqN_RVz5J4&si=vAyJciTvAuVGdFns kzbin.info? -and Cereal Box Journal Covers kzbin.info/aero/PLgqCtfI_g_9f83ax3Utb5nynWV8y8tV2S - There are content creators who focus on creating these ultra “junky” journals as well. I hope that helps answer your question. You can be even more specific, if you wish. I am happy to help you get started. Thanks for reaching out.
