As an electrician, I appreciate that Greg marked his height on drilling his holes through the studs to pull wire. Most people say it gets covered up it doesn't matter. It matters. Take pride.
@davidsuperdavelarson61742 жыл бұрын
I agree along with the nice neat runs. I see so much what I call meatball wiring anymore meaning sloppy stuff. Also after rock goes on if you have an issue and yes in my 50 some years of wiring I have had bad wire twice. One time hot leg had insulation issue was bare and grounding to ground wire other time plumber came back to move a stub out and burnt the wire with the torch. Lucky both times was in walls between outlets and minimal damage to repair because I knew where the wiring was. In this day and age where everyone has a smart phone take a picture of your prewire runs so if someone else does the sheetrock and covers up a outlet box you can find it fast and easy.

Watching you two work is refreshing. This week while watching I noticed Katie is ambidextrous while swinging her hammer. I wonder if she even realizes what a benefit that is in construction. Great work guys. 👍🙏
@DE2borknot2b2 жыл бұрын
You bet it's a benefit! 🙂 As an ambidextrous person myself, it's a great advantage when using tools in tight spots/corners & it's just cool to switch hands/arms when getting tired in the other hand/arm. I wonder if one or both of Katie's parents is ambidextrous? My dad was ambidextrous.

As a old general contractor can I suggest something? every where you have a window or door where you might be hanging drapes later add some extra blocking at the top outside your stud so that you have backing there to fasten curtain rods too too often if you want them to be pulled to the side there is nowhere to securely fasten your hanger connections to 1 1/2" or even 3" is not enough. Ask any husband or even the wife that has tried to secure them.

It's a great idea to calculate your needs and watts before installing the lights. Most really wouldn't give it a thought, until they drained their batteries every day. And yes, a holiday is in order, and Greg, a neighbor could probably feed the animals for a day or two. Love ya'll ❤️

Try sucking the flies up with your shop vacuum. Move the nozzle slowly toward the fly. Leaves no mess. Just take the vacuum outside to empty. You might find out how easy it is. Just a suggestion.

Also Greg , a little tip when you're trying to get a piece of Romex around a corner 2 studs strip it down to just the ground wire like 12 inches. It's easier to fish the single piece of wire than the entire piece of Romex

Love your channel... keep on keeping on.....just a word of advice from fellow off gridder....try to keep as much power 12 or 24 volts..... whatever voltage you decide on they make lights/fans etc for....... you will lose less power if you don't invert it....you will still need 120 volts for certain things but the most you can keep off of 120 volts your batteries will last longer
@ThisOffGridLife2 жыл бұрын
We thought long and hard about this. We have a couple small items that require 12v DC but the reason we went with AC lights is the availability and the fact our inverter will be on 24/7.
@coreyperez132 жыл бұрын
Put in more lights than you think you will need, just put a light switch next to them on the ceiling. Turn off the ones you don't need, and as you need other lights, "flip the switch"!
@mikehomner47242 жыл бұрын
Great job! My son is an architect and he taught me that you can get the most for your light if you consider lighter color paint. Also if you need more light you can place a floor spot light upwards. It's extra efficient if you place it in a corner as the spread of light fills two walls.

We used to have that fly problem here in Northern VT. every winter, hundreds of flying or dead cluster flies they're called. We started having an exterminator spray around the outside of the house in the fall. Some kind of larva killer made out of chrysanthemums I believe. Now we only get a couple dead flies every winter.

Old sparky here again. Greg get an auger bit, also called hole hawg or ship auger. Has a screw tip that pulls it through the studs. Paddle bits take forever. I know I’m a little late with advice here but I wished you’d used deep pvc boxes You may find it tough to spice out 4 no 12 wires and cram in a dimmer or GFCI receptacle in those shallow boxes. Plus now you have to ground pigtail each metal box.

FYI - To make use of the light created by your new bulbs make sure that you have a light coloured floor. I once finished a basement with beige walls, but brown carpet. The brown carpet absorbed all the light. We had to upgrade the lights afterwards. I hope this helps. I'm sure a lighting pro can give you more advise.

I think it's the wood that attracts the flies. We recently built a unheated but insulated building. It was full of hundreds and hundreds of flies. They would find any gap or hole in the wood. And nest there, I thought the black spots was water damage. Nope just tons and tons of flies.Are you going to put in a Generator rated main panel? We are going to put in a 60amp
Is Katie ambidextrous? Swinging that hammer with both hands...impressive.
