I always saw it that a woman must be more feminine than her husband or it's gonna not be as great for her or maybe it just won't work out. Very rarely have I seen a healthy marriage where the woman wore the pants and the men just were submissive didn't do much or was in the background........... usually the kids turned out not so great at all. If you're a manly woman, find an even more manly man. lol

I'm a catholic who goes to a secular school in the UK and today I was in a biology lesson where we were learning about contraception and all i could think was why does our society feel the need to mess and pick at and manipulate mine and many other women's natural biology just to make us more like men? Girls just expect to consume all kinds of chemicals and medicines that affect not only their physical health but also their mental health just so they can do what society expects from them, which is to reject motherhood (their natural inclination)
@EspadaKing7772 жыл бұрын
I agree, there is definitely an imbalance when it comes to contraception. My favorite example of this is that we have actually developed a male contraceptive pill. Do you want to know why it isn't sold, why it isn't available? Because it can cause extremely similar side-effects to the contraceptive pill that women take, but then men who tested it said they would vehemently refuse to take it. So side-effects we think are "acceptable" for women to potentially suffer are "unacceptable" for men to potentially suffer :/ I want more choices, more freedom and less societal judgement, whatever option you take. Even (and especially) if that option is "none of the above".

@@catholicfemininity2126 If you are only able so resist sin when you’re kept in this perfect social vacuum where you are prevented from ever encountering anything you might find remotely sexually titillating, that’s not an accomplishment, and it doesn’t make you a good person lol. The idea that if men are exposed to temptation, it’s only inevitable that they should fall, and, thus, the said fall is not really their fault, is honestly insulting to the dignity of men. Men are not animals. Women should be chaste, but at the end of the day, your sin is yours, and yours alone. Women are not responsible for policing men’s moral behavior. It’s not our job to move about the world in such a way as to ensure men are never faced with temptation so that there is zero opportunity for them to sin. Aren’t men supposed to be the spiritual “leaders” or whatever??? Then take responsibility and be a spiritual leader. I taught at a public school and a private all girl's school. The most striking think was at Halloween. At the public school warnings were given about costumes that were too revealing and girls were often sent home because of their outfits not meeting the dress code, all to get the attention of boys. By the time I left that school costumes were completely banned. At the private, all-girl's school, Halloween was completely embraced by everyone, including the staff. The school had a uniform and Halloween was one of the few days they could be out of uniform. No one had to give warnings because no girl even tried to dress inappropriately. Instead, they tried to out do each other in creativity. I've never seen creative costumes like I did there. It was wonderful!

2:30 So I'm single and never been married but one of the best descriptions I've heard for this is to think of the marriage like a ship. There's a Captain and a First Mate. The Captain must always listen to and aim to understand to position of the First Mate and should always take their views into consideration. The First Mate is included in all the decision making and has essentially free reign of the ship and knows everything going on but at the end of the day there is only one who holds the responsibility of the final decision. It goes for other aspects of the marriage too, the First Mate has a lot of responsibilities handed to them which the Captain doesn't think about unless something goes awfully wrong. If the Captain has an iron grip on the Firat Mate then the system collapses, they have to work in harmony with each other to make sure the ship functions to the best of it's abilities.

That's a great analogy. I've always wondered why many "modern" women just love to "girl boss" their way into life. I would much prefer to have someone I can rely on and help as much as I can if needed be. I just can't see the appeal of taking all responsibilities and hard labor 😂 like, can I just work a lil bit and then spend the rest of the day taking care of the house and kids
@cindylefton15342 жыл бұрын
Just curious: why are we assuming that the male is the captain? In nautical terms, the captain has earned the right to captain a ship based on experience, knowledge, etc. In a marriage, why do we assume by default that the male is the one who should have all of the responsibility? In a marriage, there are different skill sets. Each person should be in charge of that skill set, whether it is finances, child rearing, home maintenance, etc. There is nothing that says a male or a female is better at one thing or another. It is a partnership. Not a SHIP.

I'm with Tim Gordon on this one. There is no Christian feminism, it was a rotten seed from the start. I once had to do some research for a paper regarding feminism. Literally, source after source would describe feminism and its intrinsic relation to communism. The man (can't remember his name) who started feminism was a communist. The women who espoused the movement were also mostly communists and/or socialists. Second and third-wave feminists differed from the first only because by that time feminism was unmasked for what it truly is.

I think the feminism being hijacked with leftists. Women need same opportunities as men but not equal we are same as men. Certain jobs as long as women can do the same and even do better than men, then they should get the same pay check as men. However, it doesn't mean women are "MEN". God made us mentally, physically and emotionally different so a man and a woman united together as a union to a family; because we can fulfill our weakness and strength each other. Being honest, there are careers are dominated by one sex isn't because of sexism but the nature of sex. You barely see men become Elementary School teachers because men naturally not as patient to children compare with women. Nursing is another field still dominated by women.

Because what you ladies advocate for (and it's very close to what most non feminist woman want too,) is actually what would be beneficial to us and to the men we live and work with.
@panes8408 ай бұрын
@Redrosewitch beautifully said. I don't want to be a femminist, but being respected as an intelligent human being, capable human, deserving of equal pay, to be respected as a stay at home mum and bring yo her children for no matter how many years seems right, to not be regarded by men as a sex object, not have a husband that demands sex like its his right which is BS, or who refuses to do any kind of household chores, or a husband who refuses to help with children be that play or changing a nappy or making a meal, are all important for a kind, loving, compassionate relationship. If a man gives these things, he would get 1000 kindness, love and companionship, support back. Why, oh why some men find this so hard to understand (religious or otherwise) is their demise. I do wonder if it's because the idea of "head of the household" or indeed the opposite, "don't bother to be head of the household" are both interpreted, misrepresented, abused ideologies and because of this, men lost their way, followed by women.

You found your calling in life to be as a wife and mother, and that's great! However, not every woman feels that same calling, and that's fine too. So long as we don't live our lives in ways that are sinful and contrary to God's commandments, people should have the right to choose how they want to live in the way that suits them personally. We're all individuals, which means each and every one of us will be called for different things. Marriage certainly isn't for everyone. Saint Paul never had a problem with marriage, but he also strongly encouraged singleness and celibacy, as this was the sort of life he lived. He also never said that only men were allowed to be single. Some women just aren't meant to be in a relationship and are better off single. Nothing wrong with that. Although, you do have a point. And I think the problem is when society tries to force people to live lives that they aren't meant for, and then shaming said people when they choose to live their own way. For example, while I think it's wrong to force women into unwanted marriage and motherhood, I find it equally wrong to force women into unwanted independence and singleness. Like I said, it should be a choice, and one that suits the individual personally. Though of course, if one happens to be a Christian, it is expected that regardless of how he or she lives, it is done so in a manner that is holy and not immersed in sin.
@colettegraack11242 жыл бұрын
@@eliesh3833 I agree. Never said all women. What j refer to here is the deliberate societal erasure of the sacredness of Wife/Mother roles. And Erasure of woman and what it means to be a woman. There are women called to mission. Called to be police officers. Called to be Nuns, which do not marry and remain celibate... And even as a wife and mother, a woman can still feel a calling to other roles such as serving her community, or having a certain vocation, or job... These are all true. I would also argue a woman should never be forced into marriage, or motherhood... What I want to advocate here, is not allowing society to erase that which is divine order of the universe, simply because they may not feel called... We must also admit, birth rates are down dramatically, and much of that, medical and environmental factors aside, also has to do with social conditioning, and a mass brainwashing for lack of better terms. And, in order for a single, independent woman, whom wants to stay that way, to be within godly life; she would have to adhere strictly to God's law. Which would obviously be celibacy, among other things. But, that's its own kind of debate. Here I am simply speaking out against the erasure of women and mothers, and even of the innocence of children... Which is no question in my mind, of the Devil...

Hey Matt, great interview and I really hope you can invite Stephanie Gordon. An element of Catholicism that really makes me take their claims seriously is how they are willing to explore and wrestle with controversial issues in a principled manner. In light of this, I would love to see you interview Stephanie Gordon on her book, “Ask your Husband: A Catholic Guide to Femininity.” I believe a charitable in-depth 1 to 1 interview of an opposing viewpoint to Dr. Abigail would be edifying given the times we live. I totally agree. Everything I was looking for in feminism…I found in the Catholic Church. I actually found MORE reverence and respect and veneration of women in Catholicism than I ever did in secular feminism (which largely tries to promote the rights of women by turning us into men instead of having us be valued and respected as WOMEN). Of course a big reason why women turn to secular feminism is the creepy dudes that show up on videos like this to comment about “submission” and “hierarchy” while they radiate TikTok “Dom” energy. Okay I be fair, there are men like that in the secular world as well as the Christian word, because it’s a fallen world. But when men try to use God and the Bible to essentially argue for weird BDSM-style power obsessed relationships (like Tim and Stephanie Gordon, who are cringe beyond belief), then many women would rather buy into the false “protection” of secular feminism, and turn away from the church. But I’m so grateful that there are people like Scott and Kimberly Hahn, Christopher West, Fr. Mike Schmitz, Jason Evert, and others, as well as all the books and letters of Bl. John Paul II to wash out the strain of weirdos that want to turn the Catholic faith into an endorsement of the abuse and subjugation of women.

No way. There's no reason to entertain Abigail and give her a platform for her secular paganism. If she was brought into to educate her on her errors and she accepted it that would be one thing but until her conversion there's no reason to allow her to undermine Christianity. Matt is not the person for this task, too nice for the job. If anything Tim Gordon is the man of the hour. He could put Abigail in her place.

During one of my grad school classes, my professor had us participate in this idiotic exercise about how we identified ourselves, like by our religion, marital status, gender, race, occupation, etc. Many of my very good Catholic/Protestant friends identified according to their religion most strongly, but I had just read John Paul II's Theology of the Body and it caused me to consider myself as a woman even above my religion despite being a devout Catholic because God created me in the womb even prior to my baptism as a female and speaks to me as a woman just as I communicate my love to him and all those I encounter as a woman. Being a woman is not separate from my religious beliefs, but intrinsic to my relationship to God. God willing, if I find myself one day in heaven with God, I will exist in perpetual worship of God as a woman.

“Then arose between the two Spouses a holy contest, who should obey the other as superior. But She, who among the humble was the most humble, won this contest of humility; for as the man is the head of the family, She would not permit this natural order to be inverted. She desired in all things to obey her spouse saint Joseph, asking him solely for permission to help the poor, which the saint gladly gave.” Venerable Mary of Agreda, Mystical City of God: The Conception, (Charlotte: Tan Books, 2013), pg 582. Wives should subject themselves to their husbands as a companion, for this is the natural order. Husbands to, out of virtue, are called to serve humbly. If Saint Joseph, one of the greatest saints in heaven, was willing to humbly serve his wife then what excuse do we have for not following his example. This was also before he knew that Mary was the queen of Heaven. That being said, the husband is still the head of the family and still needs to lead. Only with virtue can their be true friendship between spouses.

Second-wave feminism - which rejects the essentially feminine as being contrary to the good of the individual - is quite compatible with individualism. But since I believe that God made man and woman as he did for a purpose, and not merely to be stripped down to a man, I don't think I can accept individualism. I am not a communist, but neither am I an individualist. If communitarian or communalist indicated some difference...

@stephencotter5382 жыл бұрын
@mx_moi Given the context of the Pope JP2 quote, I think we can appropriately accept this definition of what he meant when he used the word "femininity" "The qualities considered to be natural to or characteristic of a woman." He didn't say that EVERY woman is "feminine" in the "traditional" sense. When I read this quote by him, it made me think of the gentle love and nurturing that (in MY opinion), is uniquely given from women. I.e. A mother's love. Thank God for mother's, and for blessing my siblings and me with a great one! God bless you, and keep you!

I like the explanation she gave about its not that the Job or Task is masculine or feminine but the way it is expressed. The example she gave of just because the woman doesn't want kids doesn't mean she won't be nurturing in a different way. I've seen this is my own career, just because you put a woman in a male orientation position doesn't mean she will do the task just like a man and vice versa. We need more male teachers because we are called to father, but many see the job as too feminine. Even if you don't have kids yourself their is still room to mentor.

On the question of what you would say to your younger self, I think the only way to approach people who are blind within their current beliefs is to first have a conversation about motivations. What is your motivation when you enter into conversations with people? Is it to learn from the other person or listen to the other person? Or is it to prove your position and win the debate? If everyone as a whole entered into conversations with a true open mind and heart to what other people believed and thought, regardless of if the other person agrees or disagrees with particular issues/subjects, genuinely wanting to understand the other persons beliefs, we would have a more loving society. For Catholics, this isn’t entering into a conversation with an atheist being open to becoming atheist, but it is entering into that conversation wanting to understand fully why the atheist is an atheist. If we can understand people we can love them, and if we truly open our hearts and minds we can understand. You do not have to agree to understand. I would encourage everyone to first discuss the motivation behind a conversation before entering into a conversation with someone who is emotionally committed to a certain belief or world view. If no one is truly listening than in reality no conversation is being had.

This time round it was a bit difficult hearing some of Matt’s comments - use of the word bitchy, “she should get over it and do it anyway”, etc. They came across somewhat insensitive. I like Abigail’s view on feminism, which is that it’s been taken to the extremes but she’s also aware of the difficulties women have faced and do still.

Matt really creeped me out when he said “maybe wives should suck it up and have sex with their husbands”. I believe dead bedrooms are one of the worst issues married couples face, and sometimes, yeah, you should suck it up and figure out how to have fun intimately with your spouse again. But a few months to a year after childbirth? It’s not the same thing. 45% of women report postpartum depression symptoms lasting for upwards of 6 months and a smaller percentage report symptoms/occurrences of postpartum psychosis. Both the body and mind of the nursing mother are healing and should be treated with patience by her husband. “Finger wagging” is not the solution but it just really disappointed and grossed me out when he said that.

@Seliz4632 жыл бұрын
I don’t think a lot of women (or men) realize how beautiful and beneficial those paragraphs are, and how much responsibility they place on the man. They don’t compel the wife to do anything at all. Instead they put the burden of initiating and taking risk entirely on the man. Which is what women want anyway. So it’s basically saying: men, be the kind of husband your wife really wants. Be confident, take an active role and interest in the family, be involved, be responsible. That’s wonderful.

Thank you for this conversation. May I humbly bring something to your attention? I am hearing. My wife is Deaf and I am immersed in the Deaf community. Around the 1 hour mark you talk about power and domination, and noted the outlandish line of "women should be silent, they should only be allowed to use sign language" -- I know you are not saying this, but something others have said....that's not my point. For me its just a lens to think about power. Consider for a moment that 1% of the world's population is Deaf and they are on the wrong end of power so profoundly that their language is subjugated to mean it is the only option in a setting where a woman should be silent *because* sign language is not actual speaking....sign language is fully a human language and equal to any other form of communication and speech. It's ironic, isn't it? And most people would never think that using a turn of phrase would actually in itself be evidence of a deeply held power dynamic in society where 1% are basically treated as sub-human. Just food for thought. Thanks for the convo!! Loved Dr Favale's book "genesis of gender"

Just watched this, it made me also watch the first Matt Fradd interview. As an aside, given the approach of faith and reason you use, I kinda think, you almost always have a Catholic mindset. You lay out, the logic, most truly illogic reasoning used to defend radical feminist, trans, abortion and one birth control. I didn’t see you say something I got from it. Citing “ not being ready for a child”. Emotionally or financially. Which I wonder, if the financial, being a single mom etc. can be folded somewhat into the not ready emotionally. The very plain and simple answer to that might be, if one, male or female, aren’t “ready” for children, than they are also, not ready for sexual activity.

Great women in apologetics are difficult to find, because the hyper-liberal women have an automatic platform, while the Biblical, historical women will not be published by publishers consistent with their values. A woman who does believe in orthodox Biblical sex roles does not have the same automatic reach as a woman who believes that we should ignore Paul because he's sexist and the Bible isn't God's word anyway. Perhaps that's a problem for both sides.

@NotANameist Жыл бұрын
Is hierarchy ever domination? Is it ever unjust?
@slick222 Жыл бұрын
@@NotANameist It's practice can be like anything else be but it's existence and mandate is inevitable. Trying to overthrow it is de facto unjust. Following it is not. "Domination" is another scare word that can be just or unjust given the situation. Should we "dominate" murderers by binding their hands, driving them to prison, and putting them behind bars, or should we let them make their own choices? So we agree domination is not intrinsically evil. Hierarchy is designed to structure human society by putting certain people in charge of others. That this authority is abused is not evidence it is bad. Anarchy is worse. Children, prisoners, and all other people not designed to be in charge running things is intrinsically evil and will virtually always yield bad results both directly and indirectly.
