I used a shade cloth for my seedlings this year instead of dragging them in and out. I watched for big fluctuations in temp and brought them in when it dropped more than 5-10 degrees at night. It made things a lot easier.

Your raised bed garden looks great! Could you do a video when you do the staking ? I would love to learn how to do it. I grew a few dahlias last year for the first time and I loved them. Unfortunately, they molded in storage this winter. But I bought a few bare root dahlias and I’m ready to try again. Love all your videos 🌿🪴

The raised bed garden looks wonderful. I started feverfew from seed last year and they took off and were almost two and half feet tall. The tiny flowers were just adorable. They not only overwintered, but also self seeded. Craspedia that was planted close to my house overwintered for me too. I garden in MA. The rainstorm created a lot of work for me too as my seedlings were hardening off and I had been out the whole day. Thankfully, I could rescue almoat all my seedlimgs. Made a mental note to myself to do a better job of keeping track of the weather forecast.

Hardening off. "Tedious"....the understatement of the century. I've decided I'm too old and will wait to sprout things at the coolest temp they can handle and put them on the deck as soon as they break the dirt. Pray for me. You know how it is when mid-February comes around and new seeds in the fridge is all one can think about. 😆
@HookedandRooted
@HookedandRooted 8 ай бұрын
Lol, yep! Its tough for sure. I had one person make a suggestion to plant things out when we are supposed to be getting a few overcast or rainy days and that could help shorten up the hardening off process. We'll see, I may try something like that next year. Or else, I'll need some kind of rolly carts to grow things on because the whole bringing 20 trays in and out daily was not fun 😜I agree, as soon as January hits, I get ansty about starting seeds too. I kept notes in my phone this year about how many plants to start realistically vs. what I thought I needed to start haha

@@HookedandRooted I've also thought of sowing in the ground and putting jugs over them down the row. That'd be a lot of jugs, though. Maybe hooping clear plastic over them. I wonder if black plastic would get the soil workable sooner. You can see I'm in the "anything but acclimating plants" mode. 😆

Love your use of this space and I can't wait to see how everything grows! I do lots of vegetable gardening, but tuck flowers into every available space that I can - marigolds, zinnias, strawflowers, nasturtiums, and cosmos. I did the three cloudy day method, where you bring them out during the day for three consecutive days when it will be cloudy, it worked great, even though I planted most of them two day before a big storm hit our area, I just moved my pots under the deck, but everything on my raised beds survived the heavy rains and wind
