You have a good sister. As well this new haircut really works for you. A tall handsome bachelor with his own house. You are a threatened species. Great that you can help the ailing heifer. She has a big bag for a first timer. I don't think we ever had a heifer not clean on her own after calving. Lucky I guess. We are waiting for the first "what I do when I get home "video. Good video. Pax.

I could watch the bale picker for hours...something very hypnotic about it! Love seeing a field full of small squares also...reminds me of the "old days".

I remember 1/2 ton loads of small squares, pile them high bring them in, stack like bricks my best friend and I. 2 girls stacking 400 bales by hand and then tarping them and putting rocks, tires or old bales on the stack. Then it rained. 😂

The title is almost click bait. I was expecting to see a video of you driving to the city for the weekend, doing some curling, hitting a sushi bar for eats, then bar hopping around ending at the dance bar. Maybe a quick Sunday morning having brunch at a popular restaurant with a mild hangover. Looks like you need to stay home to take care of the ladies. Job well done.
@michaelcanales36832 жыл бұрын
X2 on the click bait comment. I didn't expect to see Jan hit the town, I thought it was a prize giveaway for a viewer. Call me weird but that would be an awesome prize! Keep the vids coming, dairying is a difficult way of life, my grandpa milked until he was 80. Dispersed the herd and got rid of ALL his equipment. Out of the blue, I was given an old Surge bucket milker. A real treat. Looking for parts to make it complete.

I thought he explained the swollen udder...but I am not a farmer, much less a dairy farmer nor rancher, but had my family retained it's land holdings from the early 1800's in Georgia( we didn't...holdings were redistributed to previous "help" and/or "liquid"ated...save the last 300 acres) we being Irish/American...controlled for agrarian/forestry purposes approximately 1/190th of the current total land mass of the state( the largest in land mass east of the Mississippi R. )...all of this to explain that my existence exudes the American rural/farm life experience and it's attendant exigencies...just sayin'...and great job Jan and your Dutch/Canadian family!💪👍🐄🐄🐮🐄🐄🐄🍶🍦🍨🍼🐄🐄🐄👀‼️

Organized crime at its best the dairy industry what a joke. With all the quota bs look at the size of his operation gotta protect it. I’m a red seal plumber that has my own business in Canada I have my own farm which I’m not allowed to have dairy but I could have as many bees as I want or I could grow as many potatoes or carrots as I want but try to get into the milk industry at Oh no they won’t let you in if I wanna take my money invested in Dairy why should I be penalized nobody’s protecting me in my plumbing business 20 guys can open A plumbing or electrical or construction or mechanical shop tomorrow and I have to navigate competition. but God forbid anybody touches the dairy industry like I said organized crime
@redmapleleaf4617 Жыл бұрын
@@randyburns3842 I agree with you 100%. I totally disagree with the dairy industry protections. Driving up the cost of all dairy products. And I also hate the amount of milk that is poured down the drain to keep those big bucks coming in. Ridiculous.

@mienafriggstad33602 жыл бұрын
No; they don't use those for calves. On his sister's channel; she is shown using bedding in bags; that are less dusty; in the calf pens Those small balls are used in the small animal pens; rabbit pens; goat pens; horse pens; and the chicken coop. Also arround his moms garden; to keep the weeds down.

I thought with a headline of A Dairy Farmers Weekend that we would join you in some R & R. But no! Dairy farming is a 7 days a week commitment. Do you ever get a day off? Not many people here in the UK use small straw bales. I like them for growing vegetables. They make growing potatoes so easy.
@svfproductions95202 жыл бұрын
Actually Saskdutchkid doesn't milk every morning so the answer to your day off question is yes he does get days off and in the weekends is 2 off days Saturday Sunday at least when they're not silaging as Jan does the Chopping.

I bet you have to stop and think what day it is because weekends mean nothing when you are a dairy farmer. I have been around cereal grain farms and ranchers most my life but on a dairy farm you have to combine the grain side as well as herd management and the haying/silage side while also doing two milkings a day and all the maintenance that goes into your pack barns. Your Mom outside washing the front shows the pride your whole family takes in what you do. Nothing but resect.....

Be nice to get some of your Dad or Moms wisdom. They are really an amazing couple. Raised three great kids. Built great business but what do they do for fun? From Holland they must be fun loving people. Do they have a date night? Do they have anything outside of work that they do together? Dancing, cards , movies , bowling? Bible study? Taking care of animals is great but really it’s interesting how a successful farm marriage is balanced.

Hey Jan just curious with the tunnel vent going how much does it lower the ambient temperature
@timothymbonham44532 жыл бұрын
Actually, it doesn't -- the air being blown through is right at the ambient temperature. But it helps make the cows feel cooler in 2 ways: - the sun beating on the barn roof could raise the temperature inside the barn to hotter than the ambient temp -- moving air through the barn prevents that. - cows, like humans, cool down when perspiration evaporates off the body -- moving air like from a fan encourages that, and makes the animal feel cooler.
@jwiereng2 жыл бұрын
Yep. It’s not going to be lower than ambient. It draws in ambient air.
