I love diablo 1 and the belzebub mod that allows higher resolutions and very minor QOL improvements that do not change fundamental gameplay. Thanks for the video

I still play Diablo 1. Classic with a Widecreen Mod which plays on Win 10 and for more difficulty, Hell 3 Mod which adds more classes, perks and QOL of Diablo 2 like gems, sockets and more equipment slots.

There are two weapon sets for a reason. Put a wand+shield or a bow in a second set and whoosh! Press Z to swap weapon sets on the go, so if you encounter a lot of ranged or slow-moving mobs you can whittle them down with a little hit-and-run action. Makes the game a lot easier, since you can also shoot barrels from a safe distance - a lot of them are trapped starting from floor 3 and further.

I love Diablo 2, but it was Diablo 1 that first gave me that feeling of tension and fear when exploring a Dungeon for the first time. This game manages to capture a good part of that Dungeon exploration atmosphere. Obviously, it doesn't seem to touch much on the narrative side yet, that atmosphere of a village devastated by incomprehensible and cruel forces. I hope that when the Dev gets the tone of the action right, as he seems to be doing, he'll look a little at the narrative. This will certainly elevate the game to another level. Seeing some characters getting degraded and crazy over time, some random quests happening, stories to help discover the patterns of the Dungeon, alternative areas and their rules, etc... the game has a lot to improve, but it clearly has a lot of potential and is heading in the right direction.

Diablo 2 definitely required you to memorize a convenient keyboard shortcut list for all the things you had to re-cast constantly during battle, or abilities you had to use (Ugh, Assassin..). It kept up the tension during big fights.

Luckily mods have introduced a binding system that's sort of similar to the various skill bar systems from more modern games. Remaster had that too. Allowing you to bind keys to directly cast abilities.

One of the best things about Diablo 2 (probably THE best) was the well-developed skill trees for each class that made it possible to create so many different builds, instead of just being a "sorceress" you could be 5 different kinds of sorceress and this applied to all of them. This game is clearly going for a "classless/make your own class" system where you can combine any skills you want (but not really because of stat requirements) which is not necessarily bad, but I don't think it can reach the same level of greatness.

Diablo2 skill trees were not well developed, a lot of builds didn't even work in higher difficulties due to damage immune mobs, the devs even admitted the mistake and added the sunder talismans to correct it in d2res. I love diablo2, but it was far from being a perfect game and the lack of build diversity that can play through all the content shows that

@@bp10193 Lack of build diversity? There are tons of viable builds, just because not every possible build works in endgame doesn't mean the system is bad. A build that's dependent on only doing one type of damage all the time is not a good idea anyway.

13:40 I sense a lot of nostalgia and love for D1 from the creator. So I doubt many quality of life features will come in unless explicitly requested by players, since he probably values that original feel of the game and "historical accuracy" more Same thing 20:40. Imo just because people today have tictoc brains and no attention spans doesn't mean that everybody has to cater to that. I respect the choice of the creator. Though I hated my guts having to walk back for ages through empty D1 levels at that slow speed. Improving that is the only quality of life I'd suggest. Btw, that stun was a common problem on D1, people even went so far to do something like frame counting to avoid it, so I'm pretty sure it's an intended feature in this game

On the note, now that there every game caters to disabled blind goblins and gives them "OPTIONS" (Comparing HUD to a difficulty slider is fucking hilarious by the way, good one), serious question now that I think about it, can you name one modern videogame with memorable gameplay that has a difficulty slider? I can't, I wonder why... Kalemonvo is interesting but I gotta agree with the UI being a bit much. Instead of weapon skills and spells functioning weird like that it could've given you 5-6 slots where you can slot spells and weapon skills into and map them to QWERTY. Aside from that the animations seem a bit jank in places but if the game's coming out soon those probably won't get reworked. Also I wonder how well the enemy AI will stay interesting. Big part of D1 and D2 was the enemy AI that remained interesting and had a lot of variety. Too many games have enemies that simply charge at the player and try to kill them. I saw a little bit of enemy AI variety in the demo but it didn't quite feel as satisfying as it did in Diablo.

Actually I missed Diablo (playing other stuff then) - but recognise its roots in AD&D "Temple of Elemental Evil" and hardcore lore development. So no issue if I play 'New Diablo again'. I really don't like the modern fast ARPG - they give me more stress than dopamine :/ - so this is fine :)

Finally a game that doesn't need speed. Diablo 1 was a great game. Path of exile is a great game but it unplayable since it too fast. It just sad that the UI of Tower of Kalemonvo look like a UI from 50 year ago.

Well, 30 years ago. 50 years ago is a little before I was born, and if you've ever seen TRS-80 graphics, well....yeah. But I don't disagree, and the UI could definitely use some touch up and QoL polish. I feel like aesthetically there is a little bit of disconnect between the UI art and the dungeon/prop art. But hey, the bones are there, and so the structure/formula the dev is going for seems pretty solid.

Well, I like it, it makes the most important things (life and mana) very very obvious and easy to check at a glance, while the rest are things you'd usually not be checking during combat (maybe thr inventory if you're a potion chugger)
