Hello! I’m a high school student that is really considering going into music therapy at TWU, but I would be lying if I said I’m not scared to major in music, as much as music is my life (specifically classical music - I play piano and oboe). I’m guess I’m worried I won’t be good enough… But anyway, I know I’m super late commenting on this, but does anyone have any tips or anything to give me? About pursuing music therapy/majoring in music? Thanks! :)

Hi! I think what I love most about music therapy that it's less about me and how good I are as a musician and more about how I can use musical skills to help a patient or client in a session. To be a music therapist, our main instruments are voice, guitar and piano. Speaking from personal experience, all my music therapy professors and classmates were super helpful in helping me to be the music therapist I am now :) Hope that was helpful.

Hey, so I’m doing my undergrad degree in classical music and psychology ( double major ) I major in piano :) and I wanted a little advice on how I can do music therapy after my undergrad is done.. ( I’m a first year student by the way ) it’s a 4 year course.

Hi! I’m interested in music therapist and am stronger in voice and piano. I play a little bit of guitar but am not too experienced/confident in it. Is it required to be good at guitar to be a music therapist? Do you suggest I improve on guitar?

Hi! In my opinion I think that guitar is one of the more (if not most) important instrument a music therapist should be comfortable with. It is the main instrument, besides the voice, that we use the most on a daily basis in sessions :)

I love music and psychology so after I found out about this major I knew it was perfect for me. I’m in my 2/3 year as a music therapy student and I honestly love it so much.
