A milk cow is not a thing I can do. I envy that. I live on 13 acres and grow lots of food and flowers. We have horses, cows (British Whites) for meat and raising meat, chickens and cats. I grow enough for us and that is it. This is the first year I’ve ever grown corn, pumpkins and watermelons. I think it might be way too much. So good though! I also grow flowers for cutting but not to sell. Just for bringing to the cemetery and for me. We live next to a cemetery where my husbands relatives are buried. That land was given to the church next door by my husbands grandfather in exchange for plots to bury our loved ones in. We live in the house he built.

You are a great worker and you are always upbeat about, it's refreshing.... You just got through working a lot of beans, I want to tell ya about a bean that will save ya a lot of time, they are super good eating... It's called a Fortex beans, they are a French heirloom that makes really good sauteed beans when half grown, very skinny and easy to get done enough for stir fry or sauteed at half grown... Let them grow a little longer for a medium bullet at 12 to 16 inches long, let them grow a little longer for a fuller bean (large bullet), for a traditional pot of beans.... So what I'm telling ya is this bean will make any style bean you want at 8 to 16 inches long and will grow any size bullet you want, just according to what style bean you like.... They are stringless and a French heirloom bean at the same time... They look really amazing growing on a cattle panel hanging 16 inches long... But anyway just trying to help out... Check out the Fortex beans, if you grow them , you will never quit growing them... I can pick a five gallon bucket in 20 minutes and I can break a five gallon bucket also in 20 minutes, really amazing.... You have a nice night and day tomorrow... PS I really enjoy watching your show....

It's funny that you mentioned having green beans and potatoes all of the time was a midwestern tradition because now that I think of it my Mom made green beans and poetatoes all the time and I grew up tin Southern California. I never knew eggs came in all of those different colors I thought they only came in white and brown. so I learned something new.

How do you find your mobile coops hold up in winter? I'm in NY and currently have a static coop, but really would prefer mobile. We built a chickshaw to raise out our new laying flock before integrating them with the older flock, but I'm just not sure that a chick shaw would work through a cold, snowy NY winter.
@honeytrailfarm Жыл бұрын
I don't have experience with that much snow to be honest. Maybe keep the static coop just for winter time and do deep bedding method. Then when the snow melts move them to the chick shaw and start moving them around!
@danaschelin3853 Жыл бұрын
@@honeytrailfarm Yeah, I think that's going to have to be our plan. I can't seem to find anyone with mobile coops in snowy regions, and I think there's a reason for it! lol.
@honeytrailfarm Жыл бұрын
@@danaschelin3853 the biggest thing isn’t the snow actually, although it would be hard to pull it through the snow haha. But what I’ve found is when the ground freezes it’s really hard to move the electric netting bc the poles won’t push into the frozen ground lol
