ohh you make lcc look so much nicer than when i went for an open day 😭 i would love to go here and have been dreaming of it for a while but reviews are *extremely* mixed :,) i just wanted to know your opinion of the school/location/course so far? you're doing a different course to the one i want to do (photography), but how are the lessons? so many reviews say that the lessons are vague and that you don't learn much, and that theres too many students and too little staff- do you feel the same way? sorry if this comment is too much haha, that being said i really enjoyed this video! it actually brought my opinion of lcc up quite a bit and it's re-sparked my excitement for applying for photography at lcc! ♥

To be honest, my opinions are also very much mixed being here at lcc. Especially during the first term, a lot of students, including myself, considered dropping out or transferring because we didn’t feel like we were learning much from our tutors. I only have scheduled class 2 or 3 days a week. I also believe there’s a huge lack of organization and community. I often feel like I’m going to a job internship rather than university. 😭😭 and the campus is not so pretty either but a new one is under construction for 2026! I think how much value we actually get from lcc depends on how much we want to seek it. Within my course itself, I have yet to learn anything I couldn’t find online or elsewhere. However, lcc has so many great facilities with technicians(experts) who can teach you so much and allows you to create projects of your own. From traditional print methods, to digital coding softwares. So I sign up for as many of the workshops as I can outside my course, to maximize what I’m getting from attending uni here. For example, although it is irrelevant to my course work, I signed up for workshops on how to develop my own film photos in a dark room. (Something more relevant to your photography course ☺️ ) Overall, I think lcc is only fit for students who have the passion to go out of their way to learn more, and network with industry professionals here -not just those who attend their required classes and go home. I hope that helps, and if you do decide it’s a good place for you, hope to see you around! Feel free to ask more if you’re still curious x

Omg I have applied for the photography course too! I have an offer from Falmouth but I’m struggling with choosing ual in the city (my dream) or by the coast. One of the photography tutors I had an interview with said the course there is 70% practical, 30% theory and in the second year a placement in the industry. Whereas ual has the tubes to exhibitions and industry connections 😭 hard to choose lol

@@thetiffoarchives Hello, I'm watching this video a little late here , but I'm also planning in applying for lcc! I'm also concerned about the mixed reviews about the same situation, so I would like to ask what changed your mind on not transferring or dropping out?

@@yvonnelin8255Hi! I think as the year progressed I just accepted that the university might not be great but I still have London as a campus, and the course definitely gets better in the second year (plus loads of links to the industry). I think finding a solid group of friends also really helped me enjoy my time here a lot more as i have a sense of community!

@@thetiffoarchivesHi. Sorry, but i’ve applied to LCC and received an offer. Do you think the uni has helped in terms of internships and finding industry connections? And also, i’ve heard that the teachers are quite harsh when marking. Is that true?

I was interested in going here but i am an American and i was worried about how well i would do socially since im seeing this school requires a lot of your own passion and social drive.

lcc and london in general is full of international students, including myself, so don’t worry about feeling out of place! However, yes, you’re right. Socially, it depends on your own will and effort to talk to strangers, go to events/freshers, join societies etc. People who typically shy out on these opportunities struggle more with attending lcc because they couldn’t find friends to make uni a more enjoyable experience. Just remember that everyone is trying to make friends at the beginning of uni so reaching out to people on instagram or starting conversations with random people is not as bad as it sounds!

i’ve applied to ual for this same course!! it has been my dream to go there for years. my portfolio deadline is in february so i won’t hear from them for a while but how easy would you say it was to get into ual? and how was the interview, if you had one? i’m just generally worried about my portfolio not being good enough to be accepted, since it is such a highly regarded arts university.

Hi Freja! For this GMD course at LCC I didn’t have to do an interview, but I didn’t hear from them until quite late in April. My advice would be to include works in your portfolio that are specifically graphic design related, whether that be typography, poster layouts, logos etc. as well as the process pages behind them!! I personally included a range of illustrations and paintings to showcase my fine art skills as well, but after looking at my peer’s portfolios, I realized it doesn’t really matter. for example, I have classmates who can’t draw at all, but their portfolio was full of sketchbook pages that explained their thinking behind a poster they designed digitally. This course is also one of the biggest at UAL so they take in a lot more students. I suppose they look at whether they see potential in thinking, rather than only your artistic thinking. Good luck and I hope to see you here next year!! Feel free to ask more questions at any point of your application process, im happy to help ☺️

Diverse Portfolio is extremely important.

I agree with that 👆 show loads of process and thinking with your final work! Do well in school ofc, but grades aren’t nearly as important compared to the quality of your portfolio. + try applying to different UAL campuses, (eg. the graphics course CSM is harder to get into than the ones at LCC, Chelsea and Camberwell but not necessarily better, just have to find the right fit for you)
