There is the hard physical work - but one of the causes for health problems such as high blood pressure is the sheer desperation to hold together a shelter that keeps having to accommodate more and more abused animals. The mental strain on Takis must be frightful. Nevertheless, he works constantly for the welfare of animals. A very admirable man! ❤

ja. lasst uns mal brainstormen, welche möglichkeiten es gibt, um takis zu unterstützen kann... mir fallen ein: spenden, adoptieren, pflegestelle anbieten (schätzungsweise die drei effektivsten sachen), ehrenamtlich in takis shelter aushelfen, videos teilen und liken. man könnte noch die stadtbehörde von ierapetra als kollektiv anschreiben (kritisieren, dass sie ihrer arbeit, sich um straßenhunde zu kümmern, nicht nachkommen und druck machen, dass wir als touristen nicht nach kreta reisen werden unter diesen bedingungen.) hat jemand noch weitere ideen?

Or, the government could take some action and responsibility with preventing the neglect and cruelty that dogs, and cats, suffer from. Education, re treatment of animals, low cost, or even free, neutering programs, laws re animal treatment...with consequences for mistreatment and noncompliance. Yes, not all will comply, however with consequences applied there would be an improvement..but it will take time and work.

What we normally see is just snippets, but every other minute at Takis shelter is hard hard work. Not only does it take hard physical work to run shelter, but also emotional work. Dealing with animals suffering, and people abusing dogs. Day in day out. 24/7

A world without Takis in it, does not bear thinking about. Look at all the vulnerable animals whose lives he has saved, and transformed from misery and pain, to joy and happiness, by stepping in. He has cleared-up so many terrible messes caused by uncaring, selfish sub-humans! Takis is the human being all human beings should look to for inspiration, on how to live their own lives. Whenever you are given the opportunity, choose kindness. Always try to see the other person's point of view - there would be far fewer fights and fall-outs, if people would only be more empathetic with each other. But when you see injustice and cruelty, intervene and take steps to stop it. That takes courage - but you don't have to directly confront the abuser, you can at the very least report them to police/animal welfare organisations like the UK's 'RSPCA'. We all have a duty of care to each other, and that includes to our furry cousins. Animals have the same physical and emotional needs as we do. They are really not so different to us! Bravo Takis for your selfless years helping animals in need - you are undoubtedly a legend. More power to you!

He does way more in his day then what he showed. He goes around to feed all the dogs in the shelter and all the birds and free cats were Laluka use to live. And in between brings some to the vet and drives to rescue areas. And visits and takes care of the cats in the shelter. Makes videos to update us. And there is even more. He is a protector of stray and helpless.

For those not knowing about Takis prior to this video, you should know that the shelter hold nearly 500 dogs and many dozens of cats as well and it's currently running beyond its limits. The video shows a mild working day at the shelter. Working at the shelter is very hard and strenuous and noise and barking is non stop. That has great impact on the health and nervous system. On top of that, Takis normally has to endure sleep deprivation due to having to stop recurrent night fights between dogs that sometimes have caused severe damages to some animals. Kudos to this great man. I hope the major and the Municipality of Larapetra will help Takis soon. ❤

Takis, the first blood pressure reading is always higher than the second. What's more, if you haven't rested for five minutes, it's bound to be higher. I've found myself with a blood pressure of over 15 without resting, only to have it fall to 12.5 on the second measurement three minutes later... Never take just one reading if you find out it's high; confirm it with a second or even a third reading.
