Come and spend a nice sunday at the stables with us,
This weekend we didnt have any horse shows to go to so we spend the day at the stables getting some odd jobs done and then rode both horses
Don't forget to subscribe to @KarenBadrick1 to follow along with our journey
Here I share my journey from a complete novice horse rider to now competing at horse of the year (HOYS) shows whilst being a completely self-taught equestrian.
I have failed so many times over the years but always learnt something from it, I hope that my KZbin channel will be able to help teach you all the little bits that nobody seems to share and help progress you on your riding journey quicker than I did on mine.

Equifest day 2 - • The last ever equifest...
I compete my 4 Welsh section D cobs regularly in both in hand and ridden showing, from local level shows, affiliated, WPCS, RIHS, to HOYS qualifiers,
Willow - 11yr old Welsh section D - Sooty palomino
Gambler - 9yr old Welsh section D - Black roan
Champ - 7yr old Welsh section D - Buckskin
Donut - 2yr old Welsh section D - Chestnut roan
I am a completely self-taught horse rider who has a big dream to compete at HOYS, why not follow my journey to see if we can make it,
I'm not perfect and I make mistakes but what we learn from it is what truly matters.
if you like what you see then please like and subscribe, it will really help me out to share my page with more like-minded people looking to go up the levels in the showring,
I regularly upload videos and vlogs on what me and my equines get up to and also some 'How to' videos for my beginner riders and fellow equestrians.
If you have any questions, then please leave me a comment and I will get back to you.

Willow is really looking great! I went to a show at the weekend do you have any tips on how to stop your horse running off when you all have to trot/canter around the ring together my mare just takes of around the arena 😂😭 Another thing I’ve noticed is lots of people in the show ring use two sets of reins with a different bit but I thought it was simple snaffle only so I was a bit confused hahah 😂 x

Thank you Oh did you, well done 👍 Oh no 😟 yes there is little bits you can do to try and keep them focussed on you, I am doing a q@a vlog soon, this is a brilliant question so I will add it in there so I can go more Indepth on how to help, but lots of circles, changing the leg you trotting on, leg Yelding, and slowing your body down will all help, but the main thing will be time, the more she settles at shows the better she will get If it’s a beginner/ novice or family horse class then it will be snaffle bit only Any other classes can be double reins BUT if your horse goes well in a snaffle keep them in the snaffle x

I think you should change your channel to Dr Karen and the sciatica followers!!!,your'e lucky to get away with taking paracetamol for this chronic condition, i'm on morphine for mine and counting the days down for an injection in my back!!, anyway back to the riding, both yourself and Lewis, i'll give it a thumbs up!!! xxx

I didn’t realise so many people suffered from it, the paracetamol doesn’t get rid of the pain just makes it manageable, I’m so sorry to hear you have morphine for it 😢 Thank you so much 😊

Re the sudden heat, I can really relate. Here in Southern Canada 30 degrees is pretty normal in the summer, but we went from 5 degree days to a few days of 30 degrees (Celsius!) while the horses had their winter coats on, then it went down to freezing temps! Very hard to work them under these circumstances. I am wondering if Gambler is not maintaining the canter in the riding area because it looks pretty deep in spots, so he breaks into trot…just a thought. You’re so lucky to have family around to support you and be there to help..worth gold! Thanks for another good video ❤️

Yes that the sudden change in temperature is what’s throwing us at the moment, neither me or the horses have had time to adjust to it. Yes that arena is not ideal for gambler, he needs to be in a bigger space so he’s not having to turn as soon as he gets the canter and as you say the ground is not perfect, I will get him out hacking to try and build on the canter for them My family is amazing, I really am so grateful for them Thank you x

I fear you may have to find yourself another horse 😂 I found it more rewarding, helping my own child to succeed, than it is to succeed yourself, like living your dream through them ☺️. Mind you they were better than I ever was 🤣

It is an equine balance band, I do speak more about it in last Mondays video, ‘does my son ride my horse better then me’ It’s a resistance band which will help him to build his topline more I get sciatica quite a lot but usually only for a few days then it goes away, this time it’s hanging around and annoying me now 😂 I’ve got an appointment next week to try and ease it. Thank you x

Just catching up on your videos over the last couple of weeks. I have noticed that willow doesn’t like pressure and will pins ears, turns back or generally looks uncomfortable. My horse does this too, soft as a brush but can’t stand any amount of pressure whether it’s ’staring’ at him, a dominant approach towards him or being too much in his space. Any ideas? Or maybe it just doesn’t bother you 1 bit and you don’t even notice 😂 be interesting to know your thoughts? X

We brought willow as a coming 4yr old, he has various scars and was was quite dangerous especially in his stable, so we dont think he had the best start to life, He’s 12 now and we still have to be cautious with him in the stable, He has physio regularly and I have tested him for ulcers in the past, so no known reason for his grumpiness so sadly I can’t help you with answers, we just ignore him now 😂 x

@@KarenBadrick1 ah that’s really good to know a little on his past. Mine came from busy livery yards stuck in his stable 20 hours a day so I have a feeling he was tormented by passer by’s and frustrated quite a lot. They definitely don’t forget how things made them feel and always bare the ‘scars’ so to speak don’t they. I’m same as you though just ignore the grumpy face & carry on my jobs 👍🏽😂 xx
