I have also made a top from this pattern by lengthening it by 8”. I kept everything else the same as in the sleeves and with the shoulder wings. I also have made it as a tunic without wings and no elastic in the sleeves. On the tunic, I just left the ruffle off and hemmed it. I actually do not wear dresses so the tunic style is a nice compromise. I made 2 of those with another cut and ready to sew! I love the Davenport! Love your make Sally!

That sounds like a great hack to make into a tunic. I wear a lot of dresses in the summer but in the winter I wear a lot of tunic length tops with leggings - something else for me to try maybe ;). The pattern is so versatile isn't it. Thank you for watching x

@@SecretLifeOfASeamstress definitely try the tunic because you get to keep the pockets and drawstring which just add to the cuteness of this pattern in my opinion! I made mine from linen and they are just dreamy!

Hi Sally I love your top and Becky’s blouse. Watching you sew with the fabric I was struck by how easy you seem to find the viscose to sew. I’ve only made a few items in viscose and struggle with it moving and end up with wonky edges. Becky mentioned in her video how difficult she found the fabric too, so just wondering if you have any secret handling techniques for viscose to share please x

I didn't actually find this fabric very slippy to sew with actually but I know what you mean I have found this in the past. The only tips I have really are to cut with pattern weights and a rotary cutter, much more accurate that cutting with scissors, if I ever cut viscose with scissors I end up with jagged edges everywhere!! Also pin your seams lots, I think you can use spray starch but I've not tried that yet x

I'm like you. I don't like sewing in little snatches. I need to sew in bigger blocks of time. Your top turned out really cute. I really like it.

It definitely works better for me, I suppose it's different if you can have your machines out all of the time but I need to get myself in the right headspace to sew too. Thank you for watching I'm glad you like the top xx

Hi Sally the top is beautiful love the colour, can you tell me when you do the burrito method do you pull it through the sleeve opening I didn’t quite catch that. X

I love how your top turned out , would love to see how you did the elastic casing for the sleeve that has the frill on the bottom , beautiful top 😀
@SecretLifeOfASeamstress2 жыл бұрын
Sorry I whizzed past that part didn't I. I followed the pattern as it suggests so you turn up a wide hem, sew but leave a gap to thread your elastic. You then sew another row of stitching approx 1.5cm below your first seam (all around), thread your elastic, close the gap and then you have a little frilly hem. I hope that explains it in a nutshell ;)
