She's right, it's never too late. There are people who retired from other careers that went into medicine. Just play your cards right, get into a good program, be willing to put the work in, and you'll be a doctor. Not to mention, our country is in desperate need of primary care physicians, and we're opening up new schools all around the country at the moment, so you might want to re-evaluate your situation and give it a shot. EDIT: That's assuming you're in the States. I don't know the laws and policies in other nations.
@Liisa26088 жыл бұрын
Which country is your country? Where are you opening new medical shools?
@mariopellegrini51528 жыл бұрын
Liza Vörös I was referring to the United States. Statistics show that there is a shortage of primary care physicians in the United States, and within the last several years, there have been many new schools that were opening in order to combat the shortage. But there are also many schools in the Caribbean that are tied in with American teaching programs so that the students can come to the US and practice medicine also. Were you looking into an American university or a Caribbean school?

Jay Shah why
@shahsjay4 жыл бұрын
@@uditapericharla there is much medical logistics that go behind it but, you are pretty much waking up at 4AM everyday and can easily make ur way into long hour shifts. Also being on call is much more common since it's general surgery, and its not specialized surgery, so you have to deal with the common surgerys that you see in the hospital. I'm not a med student nor a resident, you can look at the numbers, you won't get a good income considering how many hours you work n are on call, and also the general surgeons lifestyle fits best for people who love to suffer n enjoy the process rather than follow their passion( not always true, but a sterotype). Emergeny Med has a more flexible schedule and has great pay for a physcian. Neverthe less, it's hard to become one.

Finally a practice that caters to my broad curiosity, it encompasses everything and the outcomes are immediate.. there's not a day in the emergency department that you don't learn a thing or two.. sometimes the lesson is medical in nature, and sometimes it is just a lesson in life that you'll never forget! .. this video has motivated me even more into exploring EM in depth and appreciating it more.. I really think this could be the one! (specialty)

It's always been my dream since pre school to become a doctor. I really dedicated my self to science and giving my best shot in this subject till High School. Going to College (pre med School) is really expensive here in the Ph. My parents wanted me to take Business Course (since its cheaper). But me as a kid who wanted to become a doctor insisted and made a way to pursue pre med school and it worked. So i had a 50 percent scholarship and it was really a big help for my college tuition. On my first year, it was really hard for me since i dont have friends whom i can share with my problems in school and i was really sad that i sucked. But still i managed to be on the cut for my scholarship. Second yr was really hard for me. I struggled a lot since my sister came back from US from internship and she had to finish her last year in college back here in Philippines. It was really hard for me since there's the two of us in college and she has to be the priority since she's graduating and i am on my second year. Due to a lot of stress i didnt make it to the cut and lost my scholarship for third year. During my 3rd year i had a thought to give up my dream to become a doctor since seeing my parents strugling with my pre med how about when i study medicine which cost a lot. So i wasnt at my best when i was in third year and i almost got droped for some of my subjects for being tardy. I was so blessed that God has given me a chance to enter my internship/4th year/ last year in college. It's still really hard for me since some of my Clinical instructors are my teachers in third year. They always looked down in me because i was so bad when i was in third year but im still giving my best during internship. Some have seen my competence and growth to prove them and gain their trust but sad to say they still look at me as a bad student juat like when i was on my 3rd year. It's been really tough. They're the one who rate us for our grades and i was so shocked for having 82 percent which i guess i deserve more since im doing well on my exams and for those who didnt do well on exams some got 88 and above (and most of those students got 50 and below on the exams since there are only few of us passed the exams) i'm not boasting my self and being bitter. I was just so sad that i always got a passing score sometimes a high score and highest scorer in some of the exams but i really dont know where did they took my grade and what are their basis. I asked them and they just say this and that. And at that time i didnt say about comparing my performance because i know it would offend someone and i just stopped in there. What i did was, i told my self to continue studying even if its unfair because it's for me to gain knowledge and grades will never define my performance and who i am because i know in my self that i am better and i will just nail the board examination. Now that i passed the board examination with integrity, i am really happy that God guided me althroughout my journey and pre med is just a stepping stone and i had more to conquer. And now as a fresh graduate and board passer. I am looking for a job to raise funds for my dream to pursue medicine in the best med school which is John Hopkins. This School gave me motivation and bringing the best in me to reach my Goal to become a Good Doctor.

You're right and this has nothing to do with competence. Long shifts mean exhausted physicians and questionable cognitive functions. I wouldn't want that in my treating doctor.

they say that if you want to be a doctor you should be determined to achieve the dream because if you give up in the middle there’s no turning back. It’s a long way run to be a professional doctor but it’ll gonna be worth it if you become one.

I'm a Resident of Surgery in Mexico, and it's like hell in here; abuse, abuse of power; denigration, you have to teach yourself about everything, no one is willing to help you or teach you anything unless you give something in exchange like making a lot of favors or something else. And in here you don't even get a PHD when you finish medical school and residence. But you got to give your best, no matter what; I want to become a plastic surgeon, and I will.

looks very sexy out there in USA where more staff more infra and less patient. Come to India, we treat more patient in a day what you treat in a month and that too with less infra. It won't feel like a dream. You got to work with empty stomach, holding bladder, lack of sleep, patient attender catching on you wherever they can hold you off( some times near loo) and never ending patient load. Although still enjoy love for my country keeps me motivated.
@MandeepKaur-dv3ei7 жыл бұрын
Anil Gupta you know the good thing about your country is the work culture that you inculcate, that makes it easier for you than someone who hasn't worked as hard in his/her life as they have to for becoming a doctor.
@aliceroxcullen987 жыл бұрын
I think although patient care is more important, if you aren't taking care of yourself and you're killing yourself working then you can't be the best doctor to those patients either. It's not right to glorify the torture they put residents through, it leads to sloppiness and mistakes.There's nothing wrong with taking the time to need if that's what helps you be at the top of your game when you do treat patients. It's not about how many you treat its about giving each patient the best care you can give and you can't do that if you're falling asleep on the job.
@KureCancer7 жыл бұрын
You are right, but taking time for yourself is not a option we have. We are made to work everyday, humiliated often, abused occasionally. Nowadays new trend has started of violence with doctors and medical staff .Slowly we have learned to handle all these tough situations. Good thing is we come out with the confidence that if we can handle these situations, we can handle any situation anywhere.
@KureCancer7 жыл бұрын
hanarnie:') and about mistakes, these do happen in high volume hospitals, but protocols are set to minimize mistakes, mortality meets are conducted monthly to analyze mistakes and course correction. Overall treatment accuracy is fairly well taking logistics in consideration.
