I love your posts, but this one almost brought tears to my eyes. I lived on the lake (Huecorio) in the 90s for about 18 months, some of the best months of my life. I haven't been back since 2017, but am hoping to get back next year, either for a month or forever. It depends on Henry and Hobbs who at 14 are too old to travel from New Zealand. I have researched so many places I might settle, thinking going back to Patzcuaro might be a disappointment. Now, watching your posts, and a few others, I cant imagine anywhere else I would rather be. Thank you so much for sharing. Know that they bring absolute joy to this aging heart.

I live in Kailua-Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Cuernavaca used to be a sort of "home town" for me, growing up as a kid. I've known it since the early 1960s, although I lived there as a baby. It's a long story, but my parents loved Mexico -- my dad, since the 1930s. I met and married my late wife in Cuernavaca and the place is dear to my heart. Shortly after our marriage in 1972, we drove to Morelia, Uruapan and Patzcuaro and I fell in love with the place. Wherever I live, I need to be around trees and green landscapes. In many cities in Mexico you don't really have a garden, and the country towns can be unsafe, or they are too far to town or a hospital. I consider Kailua-Kona the best place on earth, but I'm not sure I can afford it forever. I have been seriously been thinking about returning to Mexico to live. I have in-laws in Cuernavaca, but these videos of Patzcuaro are so calm and serene that I think Patzcuaro would be the best place for me to live. Right now I am still working a modest job at age 73 and I also collect Social Security around $1600 a month, so I'm comfortable with the combined income. The place where I live in Hawaii is an older neighborhood high up the mountain about 5 miles from town, where I have great views through the palm trees to the ocean, and there is some beautiful forest and coffee country. If I could have this kind of lifestyle in Patzcuaro and not have to work, I would be delighted. I'm completely fluent in Spanish, also. I will plan a visit next year.

I was watching one from 4 months ago where Viggo was suffering from hot spots and I wanted to comment, I had a small dog with a similar problem though not really caused by humidity since I am in Northern California and it's not too bad here. But it got out of control on his back and not much was helping from the vet, and though the vet tested for fungus and it was negative, I still tried a fungal pet shampoo and spray anyhow, found at Walmart online and it was a miracle, cured his skin in a matter of days. It also worked just as well on my niece's big dog. Something to keep in mind if Viggo should have this problem again. Thank you for your enjoyable videos. Stay safe and well. Paula

Did you have a hard time finding parking? We are thinking about bringing a car. We are just wondering about car ownership in Mexico. Things like maintenance (oil changes, etc) and repairs.
@MoraMargaret3 ай бұрын
In centro Patzcuaro I found a cheap and easy place I park, in a lot, because I don't see any readily available street parking when I'm there. I keep meaning to ask a local about any good spots to look. If I was without the dogs I would really consider moving into a Centro somewhere and giving up the car. There is great bus service here. But with the dogs I need the car to transport them with me. There are plenty of recommendations in local groups for mechanics and oil changers. If I had to do it over again I might think twice about bringing a Lexus. It's not a very familiar brand here.

Lovely videos. I’m on a tear going through your videos one after the next. Good stuff! I have questions: 1.) These places you visit are probably not safe, by any standards. The problematic aspect is there is a random, irrational aspect to the violence; the case of Cardinal Juan Jesús Posadas Ocampo comes to mind. Well, you’re a big girl, I trust your judgement! 2.) So when will you get to Chiapas? I think it’s the pick of the pick. There is so much to offer, although I find myself missing the places I discovered back in 1986. A lot has changed. Best of luck and thanks for sharing; it looks like fun!
@MoraMargaret2 ай бұрын
Thank you. Number one didn't have a question ;) But safety and security is a concern for sure. As far as Chiapas goes, it's so far! I've never been there and I'm looking forward to it, but it is a long haul. After a couple of months here I'll be up for a long drive again. But first there's Hidalgo and Puebla! Thanks for your comment!
@cmleoj2 ай бұрын
@@MoraMargaret You’re right about the first “question “! I think that’s because I never really know how to address this issue. You seem to be cautious, but there’s a lot of uncertainty about travel in Mexico. It’s a big topic. Hidalgo looks lovely. Pachuca and Ixmiquilpan come to mind. When you get to Puebla, make a visit to Cholula. It’s where you’ll find a Catholic church built on top of a pyramid. At the top, I recall seeing something like five volcanoes from the same vista. Great videos. I’m really enjoying your perspective.

It is very interesting that some people from the US find Mexico scary. I guess is you are scared of the unknown, because, think about it, how people around the world persive your country, when most of the news are about mass shootings, in movie theaters, concerts, church, highways, home, etc. Then you add the drug and gun culture, ufff. But we know that not all US is like that; the same applies to México. The cartels only exists because of the drug culture in your country, you are the ones that patronize them, and your government does nothing to stop the flow of weapons for the cartels. Have you ever asked yourself, why your government doesn't do anything to eliminate the drug culture?. @@cmleoj
@cmleoj2 ай бұрын
@@luyzqint3760 Hello, I’ve been to 19 of the 32 states of Mexico during repeated visits, starting in 1984, and as recently as two months ago. I have family in Mexico. You’re free to assume whatever you like about me, but it’s not a fear of the unknown, it’s a constant reinforcing stream of information from the news media, from people living there, and from my own experiences. To objectively look at. the data about violent crime in Mexico and somehow compare it to the US is folly. You can look up the information to see that. The level of crime is an order of magnitude higher in Mexico. I’m surprised you consider the US isn’t doing anything about controlling the movement of drugs. Again, you could look up the data about drug interdiction and look at the budget for the border patrol, as well as state and local resources. It’s a massive effort. I recognize that the US is probably the largest consumer of drugs, but you seem to have quite a bias against the US, such as saying the drug problem only exists because of the US. You should consider the extent of drug use in Europe and other places, and many of those drugs go through Mexico. To conclude, I don’t buy what you’re saying. Reliable reporting verifies the extent of the problem of violence in Mexico. Even to the extent that the most dangerous place to be a journalist is, you guessed it, Mexico

@@luperamos7307 ! Actually, I was being sarcastic. I know that the cartels operate throughout Mexico and there has been some conflict between the cartels and the authorities in the area. The town I live in has been peaceful, other than the teachers going on strike every once in a while! The cartels fight amongst each other for control and when one of their bosses gets nabbed or killed, they fight the authorities.
