Truck are mostly automatics today. There’s a few companies that have manuals and that just fine. What’s not cool is driving a 20 yr old 5 Speed Mack Truck. There’s no reason a big company in the Nations Capital still runs old Macks. I just left a good paying job for throwing me in an old 5spd Mack. I’m not fuking with a heavy clutch at my age when automatics are the trucks of choice today. The days of driving crap as the new employee is over. I returned to concrete after leaving in 2008. Good luck and stay safe operators.

I wish my concrete company was as busy as all the other ones. I work Monday-Saturday work 6-8 hours a day. We only get busy July to September then it starts to slow down again. I’m thinking of operating vacuum trailers and tractors.

What cdl class do you need for that
@Nsgjbag5 ай бұрын
I have a cdl b
@samsung-eh4dv5 ай бұрын
@@Nsgjbag For a ready mix truck you only need your class b. Right now the wages on concrete drivers sky rocketed. I’m in California and they wages are anywhere from 31-34 dollars an hour. You can then move up to loader operator and finally batch operator. Which would be 3-4 dollars more. I really enjoyed it, you should give it a try.

Drove for 25 years in Southern California. Our Union Company sold out to a non Union company. This was a great job in the 80s- 90s,but that's when there were great chute men and (For the most part) experienced finishers. Plus the batch/dispatchers were Pretty cool. Now it's bullshit with all the regulations and electronic crap. If they didn't hire dipshit drivers in the first place,they could trust drivers to do the right thing. Mixer drivers used to command alot of respect until Robertson's ready mix came on the scene (Late 80s early 90s) non Union funded by Mitsubishi.

In your opinion, is driving a mixer a good way to make a living in Southern California?
@johnnytyrrell70605 жыл бұрын
I'm from Dublin Ireland and I have worked on concrete pump's for over 20 year's I hate when the mixer driver over fills the Hopper and spills concrete all over and then does not clean it up or when they Try wash there Chute's into the hopper and use to much water and block's the Pump.
@randy70685 жыл бұрын
I drive a 9 meter concrete truck and when I am finished at the pump I lift my chute up and drive to the washout location. I don't scrape the stones in and I dont add water to thin the mix and plug the pump. Show the pump operator some respect. He's there before you and is there long after you.

How about when the pump operator is running hard and stops the pump without warning and the hopper overfills and blames the driver! Or he keeps pumping and your yelling that your truck is empty and blows up concrete all over the driver and his truck ! Mixer driver 30 yrs seen it all !
