The assumption that I hear most often is that a medical sales rep needs to have a medical or clinical background to get into the industry. However, while that background may be helpful, how clinical do you think the day to day is for a medical sales rep?
The answer to this question obviously depends on the type of products you're selling and the company you're working for. But as a rule of thumb, there are days that are highly clinical and there are days that aren't clinical at all.
And what's most important to appreciate is that a medical sales rep is measured on performance and that performance usually comes from business and sales skills, not necessarily clinical skills.

Materials manager is never available the first time you go into a hospital to catch them but that is part of the game.

Hey kolby, I been looking for a career path that I can look back on and feel like I made a change in people’s lives. I believe this would be an excellent route for a rewarding life. My question is how should I get started? I have 1 year of basics classes done at a community college. (eventually going to transfer to a University) what would be the most ideal degree for landing a job in your profession? And how do I get a foot in the door?

I'd probably say a business or marketing degree would be the best option. Then take anatomy type classes as your electives. Foot in the door comes down to effort and timing and luck. A lot of ppl want to do this job, so even if you're a good candidate, it doesn't mean you'll get the job.

Hey Kolby, I love your videos! theyre motivating me to apply for Pharma rep positions. But im not sure if im competitive for them. What do you think of my background? i have a BS in neuroscience from a top 100 Univ, 1.5 years working in a cosmetic vein clinic documenting clients health history and discussing vein procedures with them and currently 8 months as a Pharmaceutical Industry Recruitment consultant.ou t Do you think I have a shot at this?

There's only one way to find out... You have to try it and see. If you're good, they will hire you regardless of your background.

Kolby Wood so it’s all about sales lol do you think cover letters are pointless since recruiting is salesy?

@@juniscitozi9549 I'm not totally sure. I'd say a cover letter is fine and if you're applying for a job that offers it as an upload option, I'd add one in.
