@Leo there are microwaves in japan that are both microwaves and toaster ovens. You take out the metal plate when you want to use it as a microwave and change the mode.

The Japanese style of minimalist aesthetics is fascinating to me. It's clearly distinct from from post-WWII Western minimalism and Scandinavian minimalism - Japanese minimalism is unmistakably Japanese and has a long history, culture and philosophy. It gets a lot of things right that Western minimalism and simple living doesn't. I also greatly appreciate Japan's love of craftsmanship (takumi), imperfection (wabi-sabi), space (ma, tokoro, ba, and wa), and the Japanese arts of refinement: kodo (incense appreciation), ikebana (flower arranging), and chado (tea ceremony). There are some parallels in the West but they aren't as culturally entrenched.

A nice young man. Freedom from possessions allows for other things in life. The time working for the money to buy, maintain, and care for objects becomes time to live doing other things. I've spoken to homeless people and some said they feel free from burden of possessions

I stumbled across this video midway through a bit of a mental "I am a terrible person, everyone else has their lives together and mine is a mess" spiral, and started watching it feeling bad and expecting the video to make me feel worse (as most of these videos are of incredibly unattainable or highly productive lifestyles!). Instead, it started with the phrase "I don't do anything" and instant coffee. I know you'll likely never see this comment, but thank you so much for making this video - it's so refreshing to see a more "normal" day in the life video. This is so (unexpectedly) real that I kinda love it for that side alone. This guy drinks instant coffee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Totally can see myself in it. Then the idea of "many people become professionals and have a lot of knowledge in their field even when they don't like it simply because they show up everyday at work" really kicks me. It's a very rational and responsible way to look at the job that comes to our hands and treat it with respect whether it'd be of our taste or not. A very condense and useful 11-minutes video. I've thought of sleeping on a shikibuton. I have disc injuries in my back and lower neck. Supposedly a firm bed would be helpful. I'm 41 and in Texas. Of course, I also like how minimal it is. I like the feel of rooms with only floor seating too. Very nice!

I am not really a fan of minimalism because I find joy in deciding what to wear/eat and spontaneity. A lot of minimalists on social media are very harsh and austere (imo) with their approach too. I like how he’s being honest with what he say and do. I tried minimalism way back 2017 and I stopped just recently because I find myself very empty. Today I rather called myself Naturalist because of how I tried to balance both side of the system. I try to keep an eye of myself not to live in clutter as well as avoid to much emptiness, just balance.

Balance is the most important value that I wanna develop in my life. When I was 15 years old, I realized that drink a lot of water is dangerous (Yeah, I was too naive). I didn't understand why, but at the age of 17 - one year ago- a friend told me this phrase: "The dose makes the poison" - Paracelso. It was moment I understood that many things in our lives have to be moderate, and I'm talkin' 'bout nutrition, exercise, work, lifestyle, life philosophy, etc. In a nutshell, I tell myself: don't be radical, just tryna find things that work for u:).
