This video is so different from your regular videos, but I like it. It’s very technological, sophisticated and professional. I like this side of you just as much as the fun side.

OMG I can't believe we are making similar topics!!! But I'm not phd, here in Russia it's bachelor degree (diploma), and I also write it about LGBT+ community well-being and trans people as well! I'm so happy that my university and professors are open-minded to help me with it and accept the topic, because it's not so easy and safe to discuss such topics in public & in written form.

Thanks for the video and I love that you love numbers (mathematician turned computer scientist here). I started my PhD 3 weeks ago, so I'm still in the "I don't know what I'm doing phase", reading loads of articles, trying to figure out where to start on my research, and writing a research proposal to outline what I plan on doing in the next 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years etc 😅 I can't wait to be in a place where I know what I need to be doing and by when. My supervisor wants me to publish at least 3 articles while I'm doing my PhD and at the moment, I don't even know how to go about doing that 😂

I would love to do a phd. Funding is an issue however. Want to look into “transcending the work place; a study of transgender individual in the workplace.” Focusing on the different perspectives of pre and post transition. Looking forward to your finished thesis...I believe you said you would publish for us to read in a previous video. (Might be wrong). Great video as always

Ah this video was everything I wanted, I posted before about how I wish you'd discuss more about your PhD and ahhh this was amazing, it made me feel a lot less alone day to day in my research - its such a strange 'job' we do! V isolating and all over the place! I'm in my first year of my PhD atm and hoping I get to bump into you and Shaaba at Vidcon, that would be the highlight of my weekend! I bought and moved house in my first term before xmas and your videos were honestly a lifeline, I packed and unpacked to your vlogs of the both of you moving :)

This is super helpful for me, actually, since I plan on pursuing a PhD myself! It won't be the same major, obviously, but biology PhDs are very similar from what I've heard, doing research projects and whatnot! So this is very helpful in helping me figure out how I might go about things!

You sure have a lot of "spuds" who have or are working toward higher degrees. It's especially interesting that many are in psychology! I, too, have a PhD in psychology (developmental). It's different in the US. After 4 years to get a BS in psychology, I entered a PhD program. It took me *9* years to complete the PhD (5 yrs of classes, 4 yrs dissertation)! It took so long partly because I had 2 little kids (my daughter was 6 months old when I started & my son was born in my 2nd year) and I worked, first as a teaching assistant, then as a lecturer, 50-75% time while doing classes & my research. I also had depression issues, especially during one year after completing my classes, when I didn't get much done. I eventually worked doing research at a university, mostly analyzing data. I enjoyed it a lot, and miss it now that I'm retired. It makes me smile that you're a psych PhD!

My PhD was like... 10 hours in a chem lab, followed by 4-5 hours of number crunching at home. In addition to all the exams at my first and second year; I remember that time sleeping just some 3-4 hours a day, max. Weekends were like... What is a weekend? Oh, but the sampling aboard research vessel was fun.

I'm german and doing it in Germany so I'm not doing a PhD program where you have to do any exams or attend seminars or stuff like that, just writing the dissertation, and I really like seeing how other people work on things (somehow) similar to what I do! It's also nice to see that I'm not alone with the breaks for crying and taking naps. xD

I'm trying to finish my masters thesis and I could relate to a lot of things in your experience as a PhD student. 8:04 was so relatable and in general it was fun to see all these little every day things in your life, and student life. I don’t do any courses as in-depth as your PHD but I’ve completed a couple of courses through the skills network which covers so many different courses from Psycology, understanding autism, understanding Dementia to accounting, mental health and loads more. You can either do it paper form, online or a bit of both. You do it at home and you get set dates of when each section of the course needs to be completed by. Very interesting but sometimes not mentally challenging as all the info is in the booklets given and you just need to retract the right info and put into your own words. I’m hoping to start a level 2/3 training course for youth work trading for the National Youth Agency part of my new job which 1 of my sessions will be working with the LGBTQ youth group which I can’t wait to complete.

I applied for (and got accepted into) PhD program in the uk 10 years ago but in the end I decided not starting it and not regretting any bit of it. I think the reason is because I dun like my topic at all and studying for the PhD was just a way to escape from the reality. I dun even understand why I wanna study information management! 10 years later I got another master in a completely different field (cultural anthropology) and I so wanna do a PhD on it - however right now the opportunity cost would be so expensive.......

I was not that responsible student when I did my master's in media studies. Remember postponing major writing work till the last month, then completing it nights & days))) Two days (!!!) before the deadline I realised that I needed to rearrange it and make 3 chapters out of 2 XD Imagine my superviser's reaction XD But it went well! Noone else from the Univ. never even dug in that direction, so noone actually could disagree)))
