About Devin, i heard an analogy from "Jacob Sucks at Code". And he said that the AI ascension is like when they created the tractor. A lot of people were worried when the tractor has created and they think that they will lose their jobs, but what happened is that when the tractors appeared, the farmers get their jobs a lot easier, yes, they needed to learn how to drive a tractor, but the tractor created a lot of works too, so, the AI, like the tractor, will force us to use it to upgrade or jobs, but they will create a lot of works too. And yes, an human developer will be better than an AI, because humans have something that AI's never will have, conscience, conscience is something that we have that let us make choices not only based in data, but in emotions, contexts and a lot of factors

the creation of tractors isn't remotely close to the creation of agi or asi since it is focused on one industry, whereas agi/asi (if achieved) will be the best at EVERYTHING. while devin is not going to take any jobs from swe. it is only the beginning of what is to come. if we reach the level of agi/asi, many jobs will not exist simply because computers are infinitely more efficient than humans. and then eventually complex physical jobs will also be overtaken. this is not to say that this will have a negative impact on society. i believe it will be quite the opposite. if agi/asi is achieved, humans will prosper like never seen before.

@@rockdude1122 creating or “programming” consciousness is something that will not be done for along time if even possible. Feeding data to a machine wont give it all the requirements for life. It would basically require synthesizing humans without procreation somehow.

@@b-nr6oeb you do not know that but even if that was the case machines don't need "consciousness" to be better than humans at most jobs. for example in swe if ai becomes good enough for someone to make full industry level apps in a few prompts then companies will only need one high level engineer to just prompt it to do so and another few to just maintain it assuming the ai can't do it itself.

AI is not remotely similar to a tractor. Why on earth would it's impact on the software development industry mirror the tractors impact on farming. Context and factors are data and AI can understand context and take into consideration far more factors than a human. Making choices on emotions and not data is generally considered a bad thing. To assume AI can't achieve consciousness is also ignorant. Software development by human is expensive, messy and very dangerous even. The only similarity with "tractors" is that the introduction will in a short time reduce the size of the workforce to a fraction. But AI will go so much further than that and will also replace tractor drivers.

The topic about Devin AI is really interesting. But yesterday I was practicing some code and I had a project full developed, it was ready and was working in the terminal, so i decided to create a GUI for that code, but since I'm not that good in programming I decided to do it only using the chatGPT, and funny enough it wasn't able to create a GUI for my project lol I think AI will help the work of many devs but I don't think it will replace them. I think like that if you are a dev and you take let's say three days to build something, now you can reduce that time at least in half using AI, but it won't build that project by itself, I think AI will only improve our productivity
