Why does no one in these type of videos or in the comments ever really discuss how it's even possible for someone to live like this? You still have to maintain some sort of income. I call bullshit. Unless someone really talks about the income side of van dwelling or rv living, what's the point?

Hi! Thank you for all your lovely comments, I appreciate you taking the time to write them! Before you ask though: - ACCENT: I grew up in Italy but I do my best to hide my accent. Nothing against Italians, just feels like I failed at speaking proper English if people recognize where I'm from. . - TOILETS: there was a public toiled 200mt from where I was parked. I've never included my toilet movements in a video and never will. If you ever wild camped you know how it works. . -SHOWERS: no I don't shower every day, I wouldn't shower every day even if I lived in a house. You don't need to shower this often, stop believing what TV tells you. Think about all the products you buy to keep clean and who is really benefiting from you buying them. I shower 2 to 3 times a week depending on what I've been doing. When I don't shower I keep clean other ways (wet towels or baby wipes). . -ODIE: if you are concerned about him sleeping in my bed don't be. It's MY bed, in MY van with MY dog, you're unlikely to be invited in the van so please don't worry about us. . -I'M NOT AFRAID? no I am not scared of camping in the middle of nowhere, the whole point for me to travel in the van is to get away from people! If I feel unsafe in any way I just leave. . Have a fantastic day, Marina

Hi Marina. My Mom's family is from Italy but I grew up in England. I too have a Renault Kangoo but I'm struggling to get it finished as a camper. Hopefully next year once the worst of the winter weather has gone, I'll be able to take off for a while in the van. I hope in the next few years to also be able to drive to the south of Spain too whilst van camping. Good luck with everything. Laura xx

Awesome, I did a two week tour of Northern Scotland in a T5 this year and looked out over the opposite view from Skye over to Harris. I’m not organised enough to get a ferry ticket which were basically sold out all summer but had an amazing time further north in Assynt/Torridon/Sutherland. Did you get up to the north west, I’d have loved to have bumped into you 😎 Respect for living in such a small van!

He looks old too, so if he would be living in a house he would probably not even move around all that much. Have you never been camping? Perhaps you should get out more. Also practice not communicating in such an offensive manner...’cause it’ll just come back on you; karma you know. Peace.

There are a lot of americans commenting here, relating this video to the USA. But the UK is totally different from America as far as countryside and camping go. British countryside tends to be much more accessible, more open and less forested. American countryside tends to be fenced off and private, with no access to the public. This is a generalization because the American South west is mainly 'open' countryside and I imagine that the same applies to Alaska, and of course you have huge national parks. In Scotland you are pretty much allowed to camp anywhere. Scotland has a low population density and the few people it does have tend to live in cities and towns. The countryside is pretty deserted and some areas, such as the islands have almost zero crime, so it is safe. England is very different from Scotland. It is extremely densely populated, so just from a practical point of view it is harder to live in a van or wildcamp especially in london and the south east. Overnight parking is often forbidden and if you want to use a tent you should ask the land owners permission. But away from the big population centres English countryside is reasonably accessible and open. Wales is the same. One thing that I find odd about the USA is the way that landowners fence it off against intrusion and the almost complete absence of footpaths. It's a shame but it is probably because the UK system of footpaths and general access to the countryside has taken generations to develop. The USA is newer and based upon a slightly different ethos. But the idea of giving the public access to privately owned land would not fly in the USA. In the UK it is normal, and it is one thing that I really like about Britain.
@MrBlaxjax
@MrBlaxjax 5 жыл бұрын
@@irishcladdagh3 to be fair to the americans, that isn't normally true. Sure some places are trashed, but the same is true for any country. The USA has thousands and thousands of miles of unspoilt forests and deserts and mountains and lakes and it has huge national parks that appear to be well funded by central government. My issue with American countryside is that it is too often fenced off from public access and as far as I can see there isn't really any system of public footpaths. There are one or two long distance trails, and as I said, much of the Southwest seems open for hiking.

Martin Cleary I found this very informative, thank you!! I have a dream of wanting to travel the US in a van or bus with a doggie, it seems like so much fun to me. I honestly have never had any desire to go to England or anywhere outside of the US. However, after seeing this video and reading this comment you both have wavered me! I also find it interesting the way you talk about how you can park pretty much anywhere in the country in the UK, so cool!! Thanks again!
@MrBlaxjax
@MrBlaxjax 5 жыл бұрын
@@mirandas.2726 hi Miranda. No, parking is often difficult and expensive in the UK and you definitely are not allowed to park anywhere you like. What I mean to say is that in Scotland you are legally allowed to camp anywhere within reason. You wouldn't be allowed to camp in someone's back yard for instance. But if you want to camp in an otherwise unused field, that's okay. In England and Wales you should usually ask the landowners permission before camping.
@MrBlaxjax
@MrBlaxjax 5 жыл бұрын
@LegOver Lass agreed, I mean, clearly all farms will have fencing and hedges to retain livestock and for good reason no-one is permitted to willy-nilly traipse through farms etc. But despite all of this, an awful lot of the countryside is accessible through our massive system of footpaths/bridleways/coastal access/accessible forestry/canal and river paths/moorland/national parks / etc. I find much of this kind of thing is lacking in any random part of the USA. Sure, you could travel to a national park, and definitely you could hike for days in southern Californian desert. But even national parks in the USA can be quite restrictive. At the grand canyon you must camp at designated official campgrounds, and from memory you buy some kind of entrance ticket to enter .So it's a bit like entering a slightly overpoliced zone rather than just open countryside. Also, in the USA you can sometimes drive or cycle for mile after mile after mile of land that is literally fenced off and ’posted’. Basically, keep out, private property. No footpaths ,no public access, no way through. In the UK, generally there will be a public right of way nearby that allows you to cross the countryside without using the highway.

You can shower without needing to plug into any power. I have used a plastic container with a hand pump in the top like people use to spray the garden. You need to get one with a shower head though not just the garden spray. You give it a good pump & then it will continue to work for several minutes. I found it worked really well. On warm days I put the container in the sun and it would warm up quite well if the sun was hot.

Another great way to keep the food warm is to use a warmed small terrocata (clay) round. Looks like something you would put a hot pot on to keep a table from being burned by the pot. It's also great for keeping bread warm. Are you still traveling and enjoying van life?

Love her story of life in that van and what she normally does. Very cool. Wish I can find a woman like her. She cracked me up like a little sign language that she used. Very cool van setup. Her dog would not move in bed. Took the whole bed!

I'm italian too and even though I speak waaay worse than you do I try to hide my accent. It's not that you don't have an accent, because I immediately thought you weren't British, but I couldn't figure out where you actually come from. And that's a goal for me. I do have an accent (I speak with an american accent, well at least I try...) but people can't usually tell that I'm italian. How did you learn such a proper English, and with a british accent nonetheless? Just studying at school or living there...? Because i can't get over my current level. I mean, I can have a conversation about anything, I understand pretty much everything but I cannot improve my ability to a fluent, mother-tongue level. I'm like stuck. Any suggestions?

Hello. Thank you for the great video. What a great dog. I just wanted to recommend having a second phone to hide in the van to enable you to track the van in the event of theft. Google find my phone would help best. I'm sure you could also just as easily get an alarm system that was connected to your phone and let you know of incident.

Oh hey and a great way to keep the food warm longer is warming the plate/bowl by using it as a cover while cooking or heat it with hot water that you'll drink with your meal. There's always a way
