First things first, the engine sounds amazing! I liked seeing the commercial stops in the beginning. The City of Conyers, GA used to have 450 gallon cans at a lot of their commercial customers as well before Pratt took over and changed them out to front load dumpsters. I hope to see more garbage truck footage from you. Your videos rock!

Love that engine sound from that truck! Didn't you say this one's a 2002 Sterling? What engine does it have? Please, if possible, do a super long video of just pure exhaust sound on this truck, with runs up and down through the gears, and collecting as well. Please leave the video completely unedited, I love hearing the raw sounds without any cuts. I'm a huge fan of garbage trucks, and I've always loved the sounds of them! Please let me know ASAP.

I drove a truck long haul for 26 years across the USA and some in Canada. thinking of going in to this line of work. couple questions. 1. how long did it take to get used to driving on the wrong side of the vehicle but still driving on the right side of the road? 2. When on "that" job as a regular, do you switch like doing dumpsters or roll offs? Or it is usually the same day to day?
@lelandhanson605
@lelandhanson605 3 жыл бұрын
Driving on the wrong side is an easy adjustment. Might take a day to feel comfortable. Our organization does only the plastic dumpsters and garbage cans. Contractor services in the area do the roll-offs and anything else.

I'm only a relief driver for our Solid Waste Department. I am full-time with our Streets Department. With that being said, I loathe the garbage business, so as far as having a favorite "anything" within that department. There is none. Everything about that business is a pain in my ass. But, the job has to be done.

Is it easy to line up with the cans and how is it to operate the joy stick?
@lelandhanson605
@lelandhanson605 2 жыл бұрын
Once you get the feel of seeing the garbage cans in the mirror, lining them up becomes no problem after a week. Operating the joy stick is very simple as well. There are 8 different positions the joy stick can be moved to. There is UP, DOWN, ARM IN, ARM OUT and then UP ARM OUT, DOWN ARM OUT and UP ARM IN, DOWN ARM IN. There is also a switch that controls your grab claw, which is either open or closed. The buttons on this particular joystick are to control WORK LIGHTS, GRAB CLAW GRAB STRENGTH, PACKER, and GARBAGE CAN SHAKER.

@lelandhanson605 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I missed a lot of a good angles due to me being a newbie and also my go pro mount options being weak. There were places that I just couldn't put the camera for the fear of the mount failing and losing the camera forever. I have since purchased more stable mounts, unfortunately I see no reason to make another garbage truck video.

How many cans do residential guys service a day?
@lelandhanson605
@lelandhanson605 3 жыл бұрын
This particular route is about 500-600 cans a day. There are 2 other drivers and I would guess they do 200-500 depending on the day. Those 2 drivers do all the commercial cans as well.

Your 300 grippers wont hold 90’s?
@lelandhanson605
@lelandhanson605 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah they will. But they are very large grips because they handle up to 450's. You're asking for trouble using them on residential cans. We've had fences, buildings, and cars all damaged because of guys not switching between arms.
@godngunclinger
@godngunclinger 2 жыл бұрын
looks like the regular driver didn't sequence his rout. You had people running their cans from across the street thinking you'd already been by--hate it when that happens. You must not have 'Drive-Cam' in your trucks yet, no seat belt will get you popped with a three day suspension for violating a 'life critical' rule. You said you had to 'fish' a can out that morning, it must have been one of those 350 gallon pieces of $&*t I hate that style of arm for residential work , the 90° angle limits you to cans you can when around cars and other obstacles You don't have an OBU to show who's out and who's not out , you are on paper with your rout, not on the computer that will get you a lot of return trips. The good thing about that truck's design is it is a hydraulic ram lift as opposed to the hydraulic motor and chain that is powerless to pick up those over sized commercial cans That lady in the cul-d'-sac probably won't learn why you had to back into that driveway to pick up her can, her car was in the street Do the mechanics swap out the fingers on your gripper or do you have to do that? seems time consuming nice they put outside controls on that truck so you don't have to climb in and out --ok I have to ask, do you get a dollar more than regular rout drivers? and do you know the routs well enough to 'blow' their rout times out of the water if you want to? YES, I watched the whole video and see it took a lot of editing to make this ,, cool 🚛💨
