Is it possible to get restriction enzymes ( via liposomes ) to reach the interior of cells infected with viruses? The palindromic sequences of viruses can be targets for restriction enzymes. If feasible, perhaps such approach could revert viral diseases.

Im finishing school to be a lab scientist. She is working at a lab bench which is also considered a fume hood, micropipettes, a multichannel pipette were used to transfer liquids to cluster plates (looked like possibly 96 cluster well), the red cap containers should be some type of flasks and the blue capped are conical tubes (in the yellow rack) The solutions used depend on what type of test she is doing but Im guessing an ELISA (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). The clear cluster plates had antigen coated wells.

How do I become a virologist. Their isn't a cource I can see and does it take 10+years
@virus.vs.labcoat2 жыл бұрын
Yes to become a molecular virologist with a PhD it takes usually 10 or more years. Firstly you do a relevant bachelor degree such as science or biotechnology majoring in Microbiology or something similar, then a honours or masters degree to get relevant research experience in a virology laboratory. If you achieve high grades you will be eligible to enrol in a PhD program and become a specialist within your chosen virology lab.

HIII, I've been kind of stuck in what career I would like to pursue. Currently, I am majoring in biology but have been looking at various potential careers such as Virology. Any advice for a biology major? What can I do with this major because I have heard that you won't be able to find that many jobs in this field. And if I were to pursue being a virologist, do I still major in biology?
@virus.vs.labcoat4 жыл бұрын
Hi! You are right that a biology degree is not setting you up for very realistic job prospects and that is because it’s not specialised. To get a job in research you have to have some experience in whatever field you want to work in, whether that’s cancer, immunology or virology etc. That means specialising- for Virology- you would need to major in microbiology at the minimum. I majored in molecular microbiology with a bachelor of biotechnology. With this I had 1 and a half years lab experience. I recommend switching to microbiology and trying to get some lab experience to see if it suits you! Bear in mind that Virology is mostly molecular too.
