At 7:38 , it was pointed out that the abbreviation 'POE' text was incorrect. It should be 'Power over Ethernet'. Apologies for the mistake due to late night editing.

The cables, they're all over the place Lol, back when I worked for the telco company, same job, just bigger scale, we can't just leave them like that. Gotta tidy up before leaving. Actually, a significant portion of our time is spent in labeling and tidying up the cables.

Funny enough at the end bit, Netflix has been around for over 25 years lol. Crazy it's been that long.

Just a correction .. POE stands for power over Ethernet and not power over internet.

Thanks I know , I pinned the Clarification on the comments a few weeks back👍🏾. I didn't have the opportunity to retake the video to make it correct so I just went with it, 😁

2:05 - I try to do that as well. I work in school IT. I always try to do as much as I can before class starts, but sometimes it not possible. Always interesting how different schools run their IT. Where I work, we have 1 internet connection that is shared between nearly 20 sites using a metro ethernet connection. At 8:15, are your ports not labeled on either end? That would make tracing cables significantly easier than going one by one.

Before school, after school, and during student break time a technician work never ends🙂, the schools we manage sign up for the services. A lot of the cabs we deal with have historical labeling. Considering school budgets and time constraints, they have to prioritise how to invest in IT equipment, and sometimes, fixing messy cabinets is at the bottom of the list unfortunately

@@cringetechnologies Oh that makes more sense. I totally get the messy cabinets. I spend many hours 3 years ago during the summer breaki cleaning out a few network cabinets. Luckily, all of our data drops are labeled on the panel and the actual wall port, but it still annoying dealing with a mess of spaghetti cables. Most of our wired infrastructure is under-utilized nowadays since we primarily use Chromebooks and wifi. We still maintain at least 2 data connections per room: one for the wifi AP and one for the VOIP phone.

At 8:40 why did you not used a tone tracer instead of continuity tester? Must have been easier.

Get yourself an ethernet tone generator tester, way faster for finding a cable or port, you would have knocked that POE phone job out in 1 minute.

Worked a job on the City, this is nothing in terms of cables. >1000 drops over 5 floors. Comms room had 10 racks of equipment - and it gets a lot bigger than that. That's when labelling and cable management becomes a lifesaver.

I applied for mine (school IT) after about 8 months working in an entry level garbage helpdesk job for a big ISP, but I do have a HND in computing (didn't bother with the degree). Not many people applying to schools because the pay is trash, so you might get in but beware if a tech has just left and they were the only one there, the school may expect you to magically know everything about their systems on day 1 because they are mostly clueless about how IT works and what is plausible or not. But I have worked in the school now since 2008, honestly these days I'd like to find a work from home job.
