I have an interview for IT Technician role at school tomorrow. 👏🏽 praying I get it. It will be my first real IT role. Graduated two yrs ago and it’s hard finding jobs because everyone looks for experience. I’m praying I get the job.

Good luck in your interview, when I am hiring I am looking for good customer service skills which is a big plus for me, good knowledge, trouble shooting skills and exposure with range of the main applications.

Back when I did IT, we had QR code stickers on all of the machines in order to associate tickets with the machine metadata super quickly without having the possible typo issues. If things there are how they typically are for public IT departments, the time it takes to improve the system to make sure you save time and money down the road, is too much for now.

All the Chromebooks were asset-tagged with QR codes, but the time-consuming part was typing the serial numbers in Google Workspace to decommission the Chromebooks

4:22 lol the kids take the damn letters off our chromebooks too, spent the summer doing letter transplants. But sometimes they even chew off the rubber bit so you can't transplant a letter over! (though gluing a replacement on gives you a stiff but working key)

Keep at it! I did 3 years in IT for a school district and then transitioned to cyber. At times I miss it, just not the chromebooks lol. The school district gave me a way to break into IT and it wasn’t as competitive to break in as corporate IT.

Hello, how did you get into IT? do you just do certificates? If so what are they, because I'm just a college student that major in liberal art but I was also planning to get certificates in IT as well.

@@assassin7250 I got into IT back in 2017. I had my Comptia A+ and I applied for a job at my local school district and interviewed and got the job. School and College IT is easier to get in than corporate jobs but tend to pay a little less but once you have a little experience you can pivot to corporate.

@@assassin7250 I studied art (filmmaking) as well but im in love with IT too, here's what I did. I was working in Public relations and was fixing phones as a hobby at work, eventually my boss saw that i had a passion for technology and told me if i wanted to go in the I.T department, i told him that I would love too but I didn't have any certifications or degrees in computers I just did it for fun. My boss talked to the Boss in the I.T department waited for the year to finish and then they transitioned me. The pay was low because I didn't have any studies but I didn't care cause I was getting experience while studying for a Comptia A+ cert. after 1 year and a half I moved to another job working in I.T for a university while doing networking with other I.T members and I tried to look for advice everywhere being discord, reddit, youtube, read tech books just like you because I am passionate after a few months later they offer me an interview for a I.T role in a Casino & hotel...they went with somebody else, a military dude with lots of certs and experience with hotels and what not but he wanted a lot of $$$ more that they could offer, since they couldn't pay him the amount he didn't sign the papers...and so they picked me next as their 2nd choice and so far I have been showing them that I can help them in anyway I can. I love what I do and have space for learning, studying for certs or doing side projects at work if it's not to busy. My advice show people how passionate you are with tech, be vocal about it and work for it, there is enough info. out there for you to make it and best of all most jobs need a tech guy, so you are in luck. also human resources don't know much about tech so don't get scared if what they ask for a job needs 5+ years experience in this or that etc...what they write on paper (expectations) and what the company needs don't always apply in real-life, you will see what i mean when you get your first I.T job. so apply for a job anyway (even if you have no experience or have little certs or if it's entry level) get a lot of interviews even if they don't pick you and see what they're asking about, ask them what certs do they need because not all certs apply to all jobs either and that you are still studying to get certified in something. they're questions are more about customer service with a twist of technical aspects because they want to see how you handle a situation. find solutions with what you have at hand. what the employeer/customer cares about on your resume is not always the certifications but your work experience. the certs are there for 2 things: 1. get a boost of confidence knowing how tech works 2. to bypass the gatekeepers which is human resources the certs mean nothing if you have no real experience working with a customer they will be skeptical or laugh behind your back if you have many certs but no real job experience. btw I only have 2 years as an I.T guy. working towards my Net+ cert soon. I still would love to work making movies because I love the tech in filmmaking, like "I'm not a fan of Star Wars, I'm a fan of how Star Wars got made" Hope this helps, Be driven I'm sure you'll make it.

Does the other Technician go around and collect them from each classroom? In our district (USA), the IT Support staff asks the Librarian to do so for each campus. BTW, love your videos! I can't wait to work for my school district!

For that particular job, yes, we did go through all the laptop trollies in the classroom. We needed to make sure we were decommissioning the right Chromebooks. Thank you; I am glad you liked the videos. Good luck with your job, and keep me posted on how you are doing and your school setup. I would be good to see how you manage your system at your school.

Hi mate, I wanted to get some advise from someone actually in this industry. I'm a mechanical engineering grad, I made the decision to switch to a career in Tech during the pandemic, and started coding courses, but realised it's not for me. I'm more hands on with my work than sitting at a desk and really interested in pursuing a career in Cyber Security, what would be the best and quickest pathway to land my first job? I don't want to waste anymore of my time and want to get in as quick as possible.
@cringetechnologies

In a cybersecurity career, you will still spend a significant amount of time sitting down, but hopefully not as much as coding. I would suggest taking networking courses along with cybersecurity, as they are interconnected.
