First manufactured by Jacobs Vehicle Systems. Pretty sound argument to call it a Jake Brake in my opinion. Like referring to a box of facial tissues as Kleenex. The brand has become the generic term.

The company actually takes legal action against towns that post “no jake braking” signs rather than “no engine braking”. They used to (maybe still do?) have a form on their website to report jake brake signs.

@@rustybones99 i haven't seen the term "jake brake" on signs for several years now. Every place that I've been through have changed to engine brakes🤣 Funny story, about 20 years ago i was running with about 3 or 4 other drivers from the same company as i was driving for. We were on a two lane highway in Kansas, it was about 10:30 - 11:00 at night. We came up to a set of railroad tracks on the northern edge of a town. A train was on tracks, so we had to stop. One of us flipped the jakes on & revved the engine & let it cackle while we were waiting for the train to clear the crossing. We started talking on the radio about how notorious that town was about cracking down on the "no jake brakes" law & we were all doing it.😆 Then we heard someone get on the radio & say "it's ok boys, we'll let you go tonight"🤣🤣 we were surprised & was trying to figure out where it was coming from. He said you boys keep trying to guess. About the time the train cleared the tracks & we could start rolling again, disco lights came on in the implement dealership next to where we were waiting. He said you boys stay safe out there tonight, it's been fun talking to you all🤣🤣 he pulled out & escorted us through town🤣🤣 that was back when trucking was fun🤣🤣

Casey, we went to the city school bus garage and bought our auto chain units from their retired buses. Most have never been deployed. We've also bought their sanding boxes that have a Y tube in front of the duals, works great on ice to get rolling and stopping. They also have the commercial contacts for new units as well. Have a Great Day Keep up the Great Videos 👍👍

I HATE slinging chains. When I was OTR, I carried chains that never came out of the bag. Because my philosophy was that if the mountain pass had a chain up alert, then I parked. Once I started contracting with a local feed company years back, I had to break open the bag, as I often had to deliver to Amish farms on dirt roads in the PA mountains. Fun have chains on, and STILL sliding backwards down the grade...that will squeeze your cheeks. The joys and struggles of an O/O.🙄😅

Good morning Casey , enjoy almost all of your videos! I noticed you using heavy duty tie wraps to secure the hoses to that metal brace prior to installing the airline T. I suggest getting some smooth radiator hose, slicing it and wrapping it around each hose where it contacts the metal prior to installing the tie wraps to prevent chafing. This could potentially save a lot of frustration in the future!

Like the new truck and what you are doing to it. Just a thought for when you mount the chains. Anywhere close to the tires, front or back of them you will get snow and ice build up on them. In my area the ice build up can make getting them off a bit of a pain. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Check out On Spot for automatic chains, great success in mountainous Norway. Never used them myself, but a collegue swears by them. Just turn it on before you get stuck 😅On our tandem trucks we also have the ability to transfer load from the rear axle over to the front drive with the air suspension, that also helps allot during winter driving. Also a tip from norway, always keep an extra jug of windshieldwashing fluid, pour it over the tires if you can't get grip on the snow. Removes asphalt and makes the rubber stickier when you need it. Beats putting chains on if you just need to get rolling.

We had slinger chains on one of our trucks. They worked good on flat ground to help the truck in a pinch. I don't know what they cost, you should be moving when you activate them or they will get bound up in front of the tires. If you stop on a slope they are worthless if you spin out. Good luck.

Hey Casey, I noticed your wiper blades might need replaced. I use the Michelin silicon ones. I highly recommend, 1.5 years on and still good. Follow directions when putting on. I watch the "Highway To Hell" TV show, and I see almost on almost every episode the chaos caused when "professional" truck drivers like yourself refuse to chain up, then spin-out on a grade and then it screws up EVERYONE! My Son use to drive over the Cascades every day in the winter pulling trailers. He used 3 rail chains, and he told me that sometimes he had to chain-up 3 times on one trip. He still did it. Did he complain? Yes. Did he realize that it needed to be done regardless? Yes. Hopefully your anti chain up mentality will not kill someone someday. It is not all about you, you know.

@@chescabler2659 I believe the only time I’ve ever towed a Uhaul with my pickup was when I hauled the burnt one on my car trailer, and that video caused me to refuse to work for Uhaul for almost a year. You probably know this already. But just in case you don't, the truck has to be on pretty smooth ground for that scale to read correctly. If a set of duals is in a hole it will affect the reading. Also sometimes the parking brakes make it bind against the suspension while loading and you may have to release the brake to get a true reading. As far as the automatic chains are concerned, they are awesome as long as the wheels are turning fast enough to keep the chains thrown under the tires. It's definitely a problem taking off from a stop. They need speed to get centrifugal force to throw the chain out under the tires.

I like that weight gauge. I've had something like that in my head for a long time for my Range Rover to better gauge trailer tongue weight, as the air suspension makes it very difficult to see how much you're putting on. So good tip on having the valve in there to not murder the gauge. Hope you get to show the heavy towing, always fun to watch Ron Pratt operating his stuff. Maybe there's a rotator in your future too?
