All sociopath and narcissist mostly do speak like him they speak really fast to not let you put a word in and put so many thoughts forward that you couldn't afford a complete rebuttal to all their words in a single sentence. Actual debaters normally speak slowly so people will debate what they are saying instead of going through their monologue.

3 to 5 books a week!! I struggle with one book a month
@philtheo10 ай бұрын
I read about 3 books per week. Not as much as Ben, but I'm sure I'm much slower at reading than he is. At best, I think I'm only slightly above average in terms of reading speed or maybe even just average. For example, my sister reads way faster than I can. Same with almost all her friends. Same with a lot of my friends. However, it's surprising how much you can read if you just stick to a routine. I think if you pick a time and a place, ideally the same time and the same place each day, and turn off all distractions for an hour or two or however much time you can spare, then you can read a lot. Again it's amazing what simple routine and discipline and focus can accomplish. You can end up on average finishing a book every other day. And I have a full.time job as well as a young family to take care of. So my time is limited. In fact, because my time is limited, I have to take extra care to make sure I use my time wisely and purposefully. I think I might even read more now than I did when I was single. That said, I grant it depends what kind of books you're reading. A breezy book of fiction like PG Wodehouse or Three Men in a Boat can be finished in a day or less. However a heavier, technical, rigorously argued philosophical text like a book from Alvin Plantinga or a scientific paper can take more than a few days - at least initially. But once you overcome the initial unfamiliarity of the topic (e.g. once you learn the lingo of a field), then I find reading speeds up. So, for instance, I suspect if Ben is reading a topic like politics or economics after familiarizing himself with a few works on the topic, then he will get through the next several books on the same topic much faster.

I'm just curious, why can't Jews use highlighters on the sabbath? How is that different than using a pen? I get the kindle because its tech, but would highlighting something be considered working???
@srulysteiner27192 жыл бұрын
@Jeremy Hahn Highlighting comes under the umbrella of dyeing or coloring things, which is one of the 39 main actions prohibitted by Torah law on Sabbath. It would also be prohibitted to touch because of the prohibition of writing, as objects whose main function is for one of the 39 prohibitted actions are also forbidden to touch by a Rabbincal law called "muktzah".

How does this guy read 3-5 books a week and manage a podcast and family with 3 kids - Must be speed reading - not at the speed an average human. An average reader goes thru 40 pages an hour - so a 300 page book would take 7 hours ( just googled it). Meaning he reads 21-36 hours a week non-stop - assuming no distractions. Quite a herculean effort week after week after week. Furthermore - how much can one actually retain and comprehend when they read that much that often ?
@kojiur2 жыл бұрын
Probably not very much. He's a dumb guy's idea of a smart guy. He claims that the media considers people who read 2 books on a subject to be an expert, but he says he doesn't classify himself that way (and also that's a false portrayal of the media). Then he goes on to value the quantity of the books he reads over the quality of his reflection on what he read. He said he generally doesn't even edit the stuff he writes up for his show, and he writes "very, very fast". Someone trying to craft a well-reasoned argument based on evidence doesn't rush through the process without even checking for errors. His idea of "thinking deeply" about a subject is pulling out random facts he read in a wide selection of books to "tie into bigger themes". But there's more to making a logically-sound, convincing argument than haphazardly vomiting out buzzwords.
@konkeydonged2 жыл бұрын
I mean, he does have a JD from Harvard Law and finished an undergrad from UCLA at 20, summa cum laude. I personality don't like the guy, but it's entirely possible he reads a few books a week. He said 5 on "a good week" and even has an assistant to take notes.

@Gazzapa572 жыл бұрын
@@Raven05R6 So what you are saying is people who disagree with him listen to his material - that would be a tiny minority of masochists in my opinion.
